Getting annoyed that other people are getting more attention on social media than you now.

Good one. I actually laughed loud when I saw it this morning:
    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/stephen-donnelly-queries-why-his-department-s-tweets-don-t-mention-him-1.4534536?mode=amp

I guess it explains what his priorities are any why most of his dept. “initiatives” are half ar*ed disasters.

For a country to appear on the MHQ list, does it have to have both a 500+ 14 day incidence rate per 100k pop AND a 14 day incidence rate of 2.5 times Ireland's, or either ?

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/government-cannot-add-whole-world-to-hotel-quarantine-list-donnelly-1.4535001
When asked about the possibility of putting a cap on the number of people entering Ireland from these countries, Mr Donnelly said that could be possible and that both Australia and New Zealand had implemented such a cap to match capacity of quarantine hotel rooms available.

Donnelly should study law a bit. You cannot deny the entry of EU citizens in EU countries. On which criteria can you be denied the right to enter your own country with a valid passport, if the guy in the plane just before you in the same conditions was allowed to enter ?

Has Donnelly any idea on his own, or does he really think that a copy/paste and mix and match of Australian and UK rules and lists will work?

It would be even more entertaining and amusing if there was just a little less waffle :pac:

The only one of your posts I’ve ever thanked, but it’s true

Sorry if it has been mentioned already, it would seem the 2 quarantine cases have been struck out.

Posted a reply I got from a FF TD over the weekend.

A FG TD has also replied, now not in my constituency but I'm living close the border of a few electoral areas so emailed those in the locality.

    Anyway his reply,

"I fully agree, I have consistently voiced my opposition to MHQ within the party and again last week on the Tonight Show with regard to the then possibility of adding EU Member States.

I struggle to see how the benefits outweigh the very clear costs but there has been a populist campaign to bring this in regardless of the medium term damage as well as the glaring holes when it comes to actual implementation; this is of course before coming to the obvious humanitarian issues that have already been thrown up and the inability to provide for those who have been fully vaccinated."

This is excellent, it seems there is a massive split in Government over this and they are not even hiding it. I expect MM and SD will be getting the heave ho treatment soon.

New: Elite athletes are to be given an exemption from mandatory hotel quarantine - an exemption which will allow Leinster to travel to La Rochelle, the French women’s team to come to Donnybrook for the women’s 6N, and eases fears over golf’s Irish Open @VMSportIE @VirginMediaNews

Obscene if this is the case. MHQ for the little people but not if you are an elite sportsperson or a politician.

That is the case in the UK due to bubbles so was always confident that would happen.

It is quite harsh on other elite athletes like Roberto Lopes who has had to do his mandatory quarantine in the hotel whilst missing out on playing for Shamrock Rovers. What's the difference?

What is the legal basis for this?
Can they go to the European commission and say "we are going to quarantine people based on their occupation and reason to travel, and have an arbitrary list of people that can skip the quarantine.". Remember that the EU only allows countries to set up a quarantine based on the fact that there is a risk for your country.

How can you argue that a rugby team is allowed to skip the quarantine and not someone who is half vaccinated for example ? It is not a risk assessment anymore

UK is not EU. UK makes their own law, Ireland has to stay in the rules that they signed when the joined the EU.

It is easy to see how the tolerance of Pedophile Priests, abusive institutions and all the horribleness that happened in Ireland before happened when you look at the collective absolute moronic herd mentality we are seeing now treating travel as if they were infected zombies. I have a friend who is a teacher and he maintains a surprisingly large percentage of Ireland are very close to illiterate and incredibly stupid.

Irish people can't help but stick their noses in where it is not wanted or needed, mind their own bloody business and who cares if a plane comes in from Botswana, Brazil or Bangladesh.

I doubt any of them want a general election now - every single party would lose multiple seats.

Personally I dont think the next GE can come soon enough - will be funny to see them all licking the publics hole trying to not lose their seats.

If we are looking to forever keep new variants out of Ireland, and aiming for zero risk ("vaccinated people might carry the virus"), there should no exemptions for TDs, elite athletes or whoever.

Thankfully it looks like someone has a bit of sense.

An exemption from MHQ for vaccinated people (perhaps with a recent test) would be a reasonable compromise I think. It's not zero risk but nothing is, and is a defensible public health measure.

If an enginner has to travel to support capacity expansion at a med tech vaccine plant would this be appropriate?

Claire Byrne must have a hard on for McConkey, overheard him on the radio “ we need to keep the variants out( gave the impression permanently)” and i’m nearly sure i overheard him saying SD for years to come. Not a chance pal!

I'm thinking more along the lines of a push from within FF to get rid of those two bumbling idiots.

I dont think theres anyone within the party willing to call for no confidence in either of them.

Our best bet is if FG pull the plug on the coalition.

But Fianna Fail have them over a barrel because in that case FG will have been supporting FF and putting up with Donnelly's ineptitude since June for nothing.

Sadly if they pull the plug on the coalition it’ll trigger a GE no doubt.
What and who are the alternatives to vote in to replace this inept present government? FG would not get an overall majority realistically.

The opposition support zero covid looney ideals and want every country on the mhq.

It’d jumping out the frying pan into the fire

What about families with children then ? Particularly under 12s.

Because they are in bubbles, tester constantly, and subject to strict covid protocols. Whether you like it or not, their risk profile while travelling around is much lower than the rest of us. They are different and should be treated as such

And then they'll be telling us we need to lockdown for Christmas. We'll be right here again this time next year wondering when it will end.

Mary Lou has stated the goal is to provide 'the most effective opposition in the history of the state'. If FF/FG had gone with full MHQ, they would have went the opposite way and it don't think it will be long until they'll be arguing for opening up if FF/FG keep us closed down over summer. SF will side with general public consensus and use that to batter FF/FG.
