Fair enough. What about the islands of Bonaire who haven’t had a COVID case in 2021. What variants should we be afraid of there?

Getting to there and back would mean transiting through the Netherlands who are not on our red list.

I don't know much about Bonaire other than it is a great place to go for diving.

The US CDC lists it as very high for Covid:

I like how people argue that it is not a detention centre, but all media write that the 2 people have been "released" today. So they were detained?

No. They were released from their obligation to quarantine in the managed facility.

They will still be required to quarantine elsewhere.

(whether you think that they will or not is up to yourself)

In the first of the cases in the High Ct the state acknowledged that they were detained

Those are ones that are currently to be found in the US

Stephen Donnelly has admitted it is detention so I'll go with that

    Different case

Yes but it proves the man wasn't released just because of the right to visit his dying father.

Yes but it proves the man wasn't released just because of the right to visit his dying father.

I didn't say that was the reason, it was what was suggested as what was produced as additional evidence.
There two different cases, I don't know the reasons why they were both released or on what grounds, possibly both been vaccinated is the most common assumption.
The fact the state didn't proceed to the high court to defend the continued detention of them both throws big doubts on MHQ in its current state, or at all.

From reading that it appears the court ordered their release.
So not the government's idea then.
These cases will be interesting to see

RTE news now reporting 3 outbreaks due to flights coming into Ireland. How convenient.

“”The department has defended the rules requiring people arriving from designated countries, who are fully vaccinated, to quarantine in a hotel.””

“” A spokesperson said there is some evidence that individuals who have already been vaccinated have subsequently been diagnosed with a variant of concern.””

I have a feeling the government will win this in court and if their narrative is as above our days of travelling are finished. I can’t see it any other way with that narrative. Variants of concern will never go away.

Provide us with the evidence then, the international community would like to see it too.

I looked at the surveillance report and there were 385 "outbreaks" in total listed last week.

Why does RTE not try to present even a semblance of balance, and go straight for the scary headline?

I agree we should have MHQ for certain countries. I'd like to see it competently implemented. Headlines like this make me less likely to trust what I'm being told.

I notice also that Iceland are allowing all vaccinated travelers, and don't seem to have the same problems we have with their identity documents.

Someone posted earlier that Ryan said on the radio vaccinated people will soon not need to quarantine. However the same person wanted us to grow salad in our window boxes

The proof of vaccination issue NPHET have is just an excuse.

Eamon Ryan this week narrowly avoided jail for running a brothel in Clare.

Not the politician one. A different Eamon Ryan just in case boards.ie legal people go mental :pac:

State knows if it looses MHQ case entire law could be struck down so trying to avoid “hard cases”, if the law was struck down its debatable if the Government would survive

The new countries aren't even set up on the quarantine hotel website - it's required after midnight on Wednesday, and you can't even book it.

This is going to be an embarrassing week for the government.

I still want to know what he does for a living.

I really do. Can you imagine the watercooler?

The MHQ is a farce, people from all over the world flying into Heathrow or Amsterdam to get a connecting flight to Ireland, let’s say a passenger from Brazil sits next to a passenger from the uk, the Brazilian gets quarantined while the UK person doesn’t, yet last week a New Zealander was forced to quarantine because her flight changeover was in Doha or somewhere like that. An absolute shambles

That’s one excellent reason to hope the law is struck down.

What about Leinster rugby who are supposed to play away in La Rochelle on 30th April? Two weeks quarantine when they return?
Sports people are not on the quarantine exemption list. Another fine mess....

Who gives a shite what the lawyers say.

No locked doors and no agents of the state monitoring them directly or preventing egress.

Private security do not have any power to detain you.
