    thou entirely unpredictable.
    I havn’t won anything since circa 2008
2008 is 13 years long time, but the most important question, what's your holding, how many bonds do you have, if it's a tiny amount, say 50 to 100, you can expect to have them a lifetime and never win anything, I had 100 bonds from the 1980s and after over 20 years I finally won €75 euro in 2012 and €50 euro in 2013, nothing on them since, now I've 4 batches 10k 20k 30k 40k, 2 €50 wins in 2021.

I have decided to withdraw my prize bonds back into cash, I called them this morning and they advised me what to do, money will be in bank within couple of weeks. I am going to put it with raisin.ie, at the moment they have a savings account offering 1.2% for two years. Better than nothing.
Yes, it is better than nothing. However while not really a discussion for this thread, I see they've only renewed their domain for 1 year. Usually banks & companies planning to be around for the long haul would buy their domain for at least 10 years. And I don't like the way they've phrased the deposit guarantee: "we will fully support our customers within the framework of legal and practical possibilities.". Seems they're more of a broker than a bank really. I'd be a bit wary.

Ah thanks a million for this. I was thinking there had to be a catch somewhere :-(

Despite all the negative sentiment, people are flocking to Prize Bonds like never before. Of course the approx €4.3 billion is just a drop in the ocean compared to the €100 billion in the banks and €16 billion in Credit Unions. The way I look at it, I'd rather win nothing in a year but have the bit of excitement, than get a guaranteed €50 from a savings account.

In the UK, Premium Bonds are also getting in vast amounts of savings, meaning they might have to reduce their prizes to stem the flow.

Well I'm not saying there's a "catch" as such, just that phrases like "within the framework of...practical possibilities" make me nervous. I see they've reserves of less then €0.5 billion too.
I would suggest you open a thread, if there's not one already, in one of the dedicated investment forums, where you would get better insights and opinions, before placing any great amount of money with them.

I'd guess that significant sums have flowed into PBs over the last year or more due to Credit Unions introducing savings caps

I have approx 13K€ holding since 2011.....wish I had kept a record of ' wins' but I do recall at end of 2018 I was at 0.80% NETT per annum over the previous 8 yrs. Funnily enough this year has been a better so far..... 3 X €50 in 3months, let's hope that momentum keeps hoping for whole of 2021

You must be trying to log in to the brand new profile, which must be registered for. I assume the old tracker log in to check is still there too.

If I buy new bonds will I have to register with the new profile system?

Bought 60k worth of bonds in three 20k batches in July, August and October of 2020, adding to a €100 batch purchased in April for the purposes of getting set up on their system to make it easier for larger puchases.

First win today of €50 on the 20k batch purchased in August.

[above post is from two weeks ago]

Another €50 today from same August 20k batch beginning with ASZ.

Got the online fully set up. It's handy seeing exactly what you but it's annoying having to get a text to your phone every time you need to log in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 516 ✭✭✭Atlantis50

I also have the online account now fully set up and new features include a banner notification alerting you you've won something if you log in after a win and also email notification of the win.

People seem to be invested in prize bonds for well over 5 years and get dismal returns. Wouldn't you be far better served with equities? You can afford to wait out a stock market crash and recovery in that time frame.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting prize bonds as a long term overall investment strategy. It’s a means of diversifying some of your assets into a low risk option and is also a suitable alternative to leaving money on deposit at current low interest rates, including short term savings that need to be kept fairly liquid.
