Brazil because with the other - 'The purple red represents the blood shed by the liberators during the battle of Carabobo' (thanks Kathleen).

thats too much blood for me.

dont mind them telling a story of where they have came from, but nearly the whole flag symbolizes the blood shed and everything else comes secondary to that

    Brazil please.

Caraboba looks great but it is missing some, not sure what exactly.

Brazil has just the right blend of colors and design, not too busy.

    Carabobo (3-1)
Pretty much the same reasons as we gave in the semi-final.
The colours on the flag are much warmer and more striking than that of Brazil and we didn't like that the green and yellow of the Brazilian flag came from imperial times. We loved the added warmth of the sun and thought it acted as a wonderful frame for the Arch of Carabobo.

We liked symbolism of the bloodshed of the liberators combined with the Arch of Carabobo, the latter being a symbol of national struggle for independence. The arch is iconic and I have added an attachment to show its picture:- it's an impressive structure. As stated we feel that it looks wonderful against the sun. We felt the green stripe adds interest and a nice contrast to the red.
I have also added a representation of the flag which we love.

Carabobo - love the red and blue combo, the arch in the sun is really nice too

4 to 3 for Brazil at half time.

    Brazil.

I don't like the other one.

Carabobo - love the colours and design, especially the subtle thin green line between the red and blue.

Carabobo. Is Brazil a bit cliched through overuse? So that would make Carabobo fresher to me.

Both good flags, but I'll pip Carabobo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

It's a tie! So with reasons taken into consideration I'm gonna go with the Grant Jury as they explained the symbolism of their choice very very well.

    Carabobo advances to the final

    Tierra del Fuego

    Province of Argentina

    State of Brazil

    Tierra del Fuego
The flag has a white flying albatross, rendered in an abstract style facing the upper fly. Its wingspan stretches from the canton corner of the flag to the lower fly corner. The area of the flag above the albatross is blue, and the area below it is orange. In the centre of the blue area is a stylized version of Crux, the Southern Cross.
The orange section symbolizes the fire that gives the state its name and is in the shape of the larger island, while the blue represents the sky and the sea that surrounds the island. The stars of the Southern Cross, which guided so many travellers through these regions, also symbolize the southern location of the islands and other territorial elements taht make up the province. The albatross is a symbol of Tierra del Fuego and its flight represents freedom.

    Santa Catarina

In the central shield, the stars symbolize the municipalities of the state, the eagle represents the productive forces, the key symbolizes the strategic position of the state in the south, the anchor refers to the ocean that bathes the state, and the date 17 November 1889 is that of the adoption of the republican regime. The branches correspond to the coffee plant and the phrygian cap also symbolizes the republican regime. The phrygian cap also represents freedom and the pursuit of liberty.

All 4 flags in the semi are great I think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sawduck

Tierra del Fuego - I love how the bird separates the 2 colours, great idea

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Tierra del Fuego and it's not even close here for me.

Same reasons as yesterday, copied below.

Everything in it has meaning - the orange for fire (Fuego), the outline of the albatross is very clever and the sea/sky and stars/Southern cross are both meaningful to the region as well.

All included in a flag that is both nice to look at and simple to draw at the same time. It's excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

I like them both but IMHO Tierra Del Fuego is the better flag.

Catarina because I still think the other one looks like the flag of an Aussie rules team

    Tierra del Fuego

    Simply better flag

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

    Tierra del Fuego. Class.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Hm. I thought there were better flags than this earlier in the competition to be honest! These are decent, but not the best four I think.

Anyways, Tierra del Fuego is nice but also neat. Santa Catarina is just that bit busy for me, though the colours are a bit nicer I think. But I can't put a flag with its name on it into the final.

    Tierra del Fuego for me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,786 ✭✭✭KathleenGrant

    Tierra del Fuego 4-0
Also copying reasons from yesterday because it says it all.

We love the colours of the flag- the orange that gives the province its name (meaning land of fire) and the blue representing the expanse of sky and also the waters that surround it.
The albatross is a beautiful way to break the colours but it has wonderful symbolism of its own- the albatross is very seldom seen ashore but can be seen here and it has hence become a symbol of the province. it is in flight signifying liberty.
As said already the Southern Cross has special significance and is used on many flags in South America but here it is given pride of place as it represents the southern islands.
For those who say it has less going on, its simplicity adds to its beauty and it is not so busy as others.

For us this flag has majesty and we put it miles ahead of Santa Caterina.

Tierra del Fuego - love both, this would have made a great final, but this is such a unique flag it's impossible not to vote for it.

Even if I'm not s fan of the orange Tierra del Fuego is a beautiful flag!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,661 ✭✭✭SineadSpears

so initially I didnt like TdF because of the seagull and it being a computer graphic bird rather than the actual shape of the bird that it's supposed to be. which made it look like a pteranodon(& yes I had to google the spelling of that).

but the colours have grown on me after it had been pointed out how nice they were together. an it is nice and fresh looking.

Santa Catarina I love the green with the red and white. love the bird and the star. but i've already said before that I dont like the smurf hat or the xmas bow.

so its now a choice (in my mind at least) between the smurfs or dinosaur train :D

I hate the smurfs, and dinosaur train was a very cute programme, so finally i'm getting round to choosing TdF!

I don't even have any kids around me to blame for my way of thinking.

and I don't drink to be able to say i'm half jarred either :o:D

I missed the other nail-biter of a semi but thankfully people saw sense and out the right flag through.

This one is a non-league side against a Champion's League finalist, there's just one clear winner here and it's Tierra Del Fuego. Just say that name out loud. It's brilliant, evocative, dangerous... and with a flag that married symbolism, geometry, a rare combination of colours that works perfectly. The dream final we all wanted and needed is just around the corner.

Santa Catarina. Lovely colours, intricate, imaginative interior crest.

I'm bemused that the other one is getting any votes.

    Santa Catarina

    State of Brazil

It is way more interesting flag plus some Brazil needs to stay in

Some of the votes so far.
Carabobo - 2 great flags in the final and to be honest I'd be happy with either one but I love that sun and arch so going with carabobo
Tierra del Fuego - two magnificent flags, a very worthy final. But given how much I generally dislike orange as a colour, it takes a very special flag to make me forget that it's orange, and this is that flag. It goes brilliantly with the blue, and the stars are a nice touch, but the albatross is the icing on the cake. All round, it's just genius.

    I don't really like either!

    Tierra Del Fuego

Getting in on this action late .

Carabobo means something like Silly Face in Spanish.

Tierra del Fuego means Land of Fire.

    PM sent.
