I know not everyone is Leo's fan but I thought this was very good (and positive)

    Key take aways:
He very clearly states vaccines result in vaccination, that evidence from Israel indicates we may not need to be as concerned about variants as we have been given vaccines appear to offer protection there too and he is much firmer on dates for bringing back non essential retail (may) and hotels (june)

I feel like this is the speech LV would have given last week if hed been in charge , instead of that simpering ****wit MM who talks to us like we are children or maybe not very bright simpletons that cant be trusted with even the tiniest bit of information or to behave in any way like responsible people.

Clearly FG are in damage control mode too now but my God I wish it was last year and they were in charge

Informative video, another key takeaway is that the government are prepared to look at easing certain restrictions on a regional basis and that this will be looked at based on the EC green zone system i.e. counties that average 25 cases or below per 100,000 in 14 day period. Kerry are closest to achieving this currently, followed by Cork.

Gardaí clear large crowds from Cork public parks and amenities over the weekend

A neighbour said the unruly crowds were “a disgrace” and that he and his wife were sick of people urinating on their street and of being exposed to loud music, discarded rubbish, and general bad behaviour.

Residents living near the Lough have similar issues. One man said his elderly mother, who moved to the area 60 years ago, felt afraid for the first time last Thursday to walk around the Lough in the evening given the behaviour of some of the crowd.

Cleared for being a pack of bellends rather than because of Covid.

This all started from your original post:

So you now agree this is not true and they are only enforcing rules as appropriate? That's all I was asking.

The issue is the rule that forbids, for example, a family gathering and sitting down for a picnic in a park. This is illegal. It's far safer than the same family meeting indoors.

The government have finally realised this hence its allowed from April 12th.

Very good to point this out. People were crying out over regional variations but it was not addressed. It would have made sense to quickly address this in the speech. Would have took 30 secs to explain the reasoning.

Ha! You literally asked if it was allowed in Ireland at the end, and still claim it was a genuine question.

Hope your fairies aren't away more than 5km, or you'd be reporting those too.

I think you may find she has been walking the dog beyond the 5km herself.

This housemate has been acting up since 7th April 2020
I have a housemate who doesn't want to go into work because of mixing with people. Fair enough. But then they bring over their friends to the house and mix with people!!

The issue is you are posting more fake news where other people might read as fact.

You originally said that "And here in Ireland we have guards going through parks clearing people."

This is untrue and you have not provided anything to back it up.

All we have seen is guards breaking up gathering due to complaint's etc. not randomly rounding people up and moving them outside of parks.

Not sure why NPHET did not give up this game-changing information months ago at ther daily news conference , this is big news for the population, yet the Irish Times had to dig it out and tell us . People should be advised to get outdoors rather than the 12 months daily message of stay at home (indoors).
How risky is a game of golf or teenagers playing soccer , (or even adults).

Because NPHET are the most ultra cautious body assembled.

I’ll never get this weekend affect with administration! They should be working 5 out of 7 days like the majority of the workforce! A lot of people won’t see the main headline of icu decreasing only the number in hospitals increase.
And has anyone else noticed that RTE have stopped saying how many people are in icu on their push notifications with case and death numbers?

But is it not NPHETS purpose to tell us the facts about COVID and safety - all the Facts - if the virus 99.99 % more transmitable indoors , I want to know that , and the public too should be warned about the low risk of outdoor activity.

Similarly with transmitalilty by hand (formites), people are now saying transmission is very very low risk by hand , yet NPHET tell the public nothing about this informative development , surely the over anxious Irish public need to hear these facts at the daily conference ?

Why is the Brittany strain, that can’t be detected by current pcr tests, only now appearing in the media here when it was first detected weeks ago, 16th March was the earliest Reuters article.

Seems that there is more and more data coming through illustrating that vaccines prevent transmission. Great news. Latest is from the RKI, referenced here and in the Guardian this evening

Because it’s not a variant that is any more transmissible, nor dangerous, nor vaccine resistant. And really hasn’t been very much of a concern to anyone since it was reported a few weeks ago

Oh lovely, can we have another discussion on this self isolating at home business? Didn't they want to go off and collect their kids from the granny and have the kids with them in quarantine? Granny goes off into work, kids go off into school and it spreads.

The hse stated before the Christmas that of evidence emerged and showed that vaccines slow transmission, the vaccine programme will change from vaccinatimg older people at the start to younger people who are more likely to catch and transmit covid. I think it was suggested changing from older people to 19 to 34 age for the vaccines. The majority of the cases is happening in people under 45 years. I'm not denying older people vaccines but I think the programme should change. By getting younger adults vaccinated, we will all benefit with the virus suppressed as much as possible in the community.

It wasn't completely undetected, it showed as 'weakly positive' and indeed 'negative' in some people, it appears to be a small number of people tested (it was 8 initially) Obviously it's a concern but it's been monitored since early March and has had no big update since, negatively or positively.

and some people just always want something to worry about something , ther has been some good news today , but 12 months of NPHET has everyone fearing the worst for everything, and I think some people never want lockdown to end .

I can't be too harsh on some who some do that, the wearing down of a long year can have effects. I think some of it is the the immediate perception that a 'new' variant must be worse/stronger/more deadly, I think a lot of it stems from the early days when the first talk of a new variant started, while dealing with an already horrible virus, it struck fear into a lot of people until better info keeps coming out, but even then the negativity/fear has stuck unfortunately.

Than you and fair enough but is this not a bit of nonsense from Leo?? Kind of pretending to cover this but not really? Let me explain - Kerry isn’t low enough already is it? It needs to be lower? Also we have about 7/8 weeks left of the worst of this - I’d imagine regional is never going to happen at this stage...Feel like Leo is putting even lower figures on it and knowing full well the worst of this is over anyway in a few weeks...Not sure I’ve explained myself very well above :(

You’d either positive or negative with pcr there’s no middle ground, the current pcr didn’t work. A negative results mean the test detected nothing. The question is though why is being pushed here by the media now so late in the day.

Really! According to NPHET just a couple of weeks back we were in the midst of a surge! So much so that the government were confident in reopening feck all.

NPHET spin the figures to keep the general public from getting complacent. There is no surge. Hospital numbers are the key and they are coming down consistently despite the positive tests staying static. That has NPHET worried they will lose control of the narrative. They have lost it.

This is very odd the media exposure this story is getting. Front page and its just two random people who broke restrictions 18 months into a pandemic.
