Will we ever be able to travel freely again?

Very very slim list to pick from in Ireland, and Coveney will be out of here come the next election or when a nice cushy EU Commissioner job comes up again, maybe Golfgate Phil's old job...

It’s rather inconvenient but it may turn out to be the only option

One would get the impression especially since a country like Israel is going on the quarantine list is that we’ll eventually only be allowed to travel if there was zero covid in the world (because of the obsession of variants). But we all know Covid 19 will never be eradicated. I accept i could be totally wrong but i think the future is worrying and concerning regarding future travel especially for people who have families abroad etc.

Get a nice comfy coach service from Dublin is about 2 hours. Costs about the same as I pay to get a taxi to dublin airport normally.

I’ll just build the journey into my overall trip (July booked . Belfast - Frankfurt - Bangkok - Phuket)

Couldn't believe it when I saw israel in the new list. One of the highest vaccination rates globally ffs!

I have been on both sides of the covid / travel debates and I can see both sides. At this stage, I'm throwing the towel in though, this country has gone bananas and I blame the monkeys jumping up and down and screaming "new Zealand"

Not at the moment it doesn't. The people up north are using Dublin airport

I have given up also. I’ll see what happens by the end of the year. If no light at the end of the tunnel by the end of the year I’m relocating to the USA, thankfully i’m in a position to do so, dual citizenship is a great thing. I have family there so i have no other choice if it’s the only way to see them again.

Unfortunately I think that there are a large number of parochial Irish people that will continue to cheer on restrictions on movement in and out of the country for years to come (and it will be years of variants and new vaccines)

Varadkar ( think it was him) said today in so many words that we’ll have to give our freedoms up for the greater good bolloxogy.

I can see the government giving the vaccine green pass a “pass”, they seem very quiet about it’s announcement.

Mr O’Leary has a load of flight routes sorted for the summer from Belfast

I can’t honestly see that happening. Far to explosive a situation politically to start blocking border access to and from.

Thankfully there is a fairly big and powerful Israeli Embassy in Dublin.
I expect we'll be hearing from them in the next few days.

I know there is an expert travel advisory committee but according to Richard Chambers' tweet this list did come from the deputy CMO

Doing so would breach the good Friday agreement, no politician will go there.

Is it really you just need to return via Belfast?

It will depend on the UK’s stance on future travel. There’s already doubt about the UK being allowed to travel this summer because of the, yep you guessed it them pesky variants. Because of the common travel area you might be still allowed to travel to Belfast and over to the UK but expect finger wagging for just going to the UK.

Agree, the likes of Leo, MM & Donnelly can only one day hope to be in a position where they are trotting behind him

Totally agree. The finger wagging was atrocious last summer and will 100% be the same this summer (and possibly summer 2022)

It’s exactly why I’ll be travelling 10,000km to get as far away as possible from it for a few months.

I forgot to add the UK are introducing 5k fine around now for anyone leaving the UK without a valid reason. I’m not sure how it would affect someone going to Belfast trying to leave that lives in the south.

But at the same time they are actively talking about summer travel, though allowing holiday travel to yue USA is ahead of Europe on the agenda (at least it was at the weekend, with the Sunday paper leaks and interviews)

As far as I know that 5k rule applies to UK residents only.
I reckon it’s a loop for rep of Ireland travellers alright but would be near impossible to legally close (thankfully hehe)

If you don’t live in the jurisdiction they can’t fine you. Car hire companies often get caught out with parking fines etc after people have left the country

It does not seem necessarily illogical to me. The Israeli's are vaccinated. They are open up. Being vaccinated means that if they pick up the virus, they won't get seriously ill. However they can pick it up, and they can carry it to here.

So if a planeload of Israeli's land here tomorrow, chances are that there would be a few of them carrying the virus. Symptomless and unaware, but carrying it nonetheless. If the virus gets into your body, it doesn't care whether it got to you via a vaccinated person or a non-vaccinated one. It just cares that you are not vaccinated yourself!

It is still circulating over there. I'd reckon that it would take a few cycles after finishing vaccinations for a country to be "clear" of the virus in terms of carrying it to outside non-vaccinated places.

I’m all for safety etc and there’s no way i’d travel at the moment due to the current situation but once the critical mass are vaccinated ( including myself) especially in the USA i’ll be making sure i find away to travel to the USA and the UK.

The parking fines are taken from your credit card. I got a parking fine in NY and it was deducted from my credit card.

The virus doesn't "care" about anything. It is not capable of such emotions.

Now that we've cleared that up, you're saying that essentially Israel are being punished for being so far ahead in terms of vaccinations?

This craic about asymptomatic spread needs to stop. Didn't the WHO even say that spread was minimal without sneezing and coughing? I absolutely remember reading that.
