Does anyone on the thread realistically see is travelling this year? Genuine question.

I can foresee two ways of EU travel.

    1) The digital green Certificate comes into play and the EU take no crap on it’s rollout.

    or

    2) Travel from Belfast from mid June on. (I’ll be taking this option for a 3 week holiday that rolled over from last year)

Yes, albeit probable not as easy as hoped. I have flights booked for later this month. Nuisance but I need to travel

    I do.
I intend to be able to fly out of the country by Sept, pretty much everyone should be vaccinated by then
but I never go anywhere during July or August anyway, too many families & tourists everywhere!!

I highly doubt it as it was a great little cottage industry for the corrupt Fianna Fail traitors to exploit, a 2 bed apartment with four bunk beds and another bunk bed in the living room equals ten students paying €5,000 per month cash unregistered or untaxed by the lowest sort of FF&FG landlord tramps imaginable, the types that give us good landlords a bad name. Then said lowlives can exploit the students for minimum or less wages in horrible crappy jobs like fully registered Brazilian nurses doing a nurses job on caregiver wages of €11-€12 per hour in a nursing home where a family comes together to chip-in to pay €1,200 per week. The majority of the English Schools have semi-literate teachers and are only glorified visa factories and they turn out English at a Junior infants level.

The FF&FG corrupt bourgeois will get the Brazil ban lifted very soon I would say.

I was 50% hopeful until last week. Now with the vaccine news I'm 90%. The vaccines both block Covid and transmission of the virus, there's no reason now to not allow vaccinated people travel.

The only unknown is supply, and it's hard to know when we'll be allowed travel - Israel seem to have opened up at about 50% vaccinated, I think we will need a bit more than that percentage as they had a lot of people who had previously been infected.

The politicians are only acting on the advice they are given no matter how stupid or impractical it is. Sadly the ones giving the advice face no such accountability as an election. (Don't take this as a defence of politicians because it's not intended as one)

Not good enough! We elect these politicians, pay them handsomely, pension them even more handsomely so you expect them to make wise decisions on behalf on their constituents and the country as a whole and thats even allowing them a few fcuk ups as granted they're human.I've been around a bit, am armoured with a reasonable layer of cynicism so not that easily shocked. But even I am shocked at how utterly appalling are the current crop of politicians, Govt, opposition, almost all apart from the odd lone voice of reason.

This is the most likely and coherent synopsis of the travel outlook for the next six months.
No one in Govt would dare comment on travel after all its a convenient whipping boy/distraction for their blunders
I would give the above more weight than anything out of 'sleepy' Ryans Transport Dept, or the spoofer in Dept of Health.

Belfast to London in September all going well

I'll be travelling after I am vaccinated.

The EU will be open with vaccine certificates so I have that option.

Irish people benefit from the CTA with England so avoid all of their restrictions currently, I could go over there for a week or two.

I'd like to go to America and I think they may open up a travel corridor with England, or allow vaccinated people to enter come Autumn time.

I can go to Belfast if I need to be in the UK to avail of certain travel opportunities.

Nevertheless, I didn't go away last year after March and I am someone who would ordinarily travel 25-30+ times a year. Once I am vaccinated there will be nothing stopping me. Tony can tut all he likes.

Have you ever heard a politician claim they were acting on the best advice available. I have. The present Taoiseach set up the HSE to distance themselves from decisions in health. I believe before he finished up as MOH he had commissioned 30 million euro worth of reports. These guys don't want to make the required decisions. They always want a scapegoat, Nphet presently fits the bill.

Any particular reason to fly from Belfast?
Or is it your usual airport?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,645 ✭✭✭Micky 32

Unfortunately looks like talks are underway to add more countries to the quarantine list. US, France, Italy and Germany are some of the targets. Main headline on the RTE app now.

Reading the article “ everything must be done to keep the variants out” sure if that’s the narrative that would mean it would have to be permanently.

Wonder how it will conflict with the EU trave pass.

    We know about this.

We also know that the Attorney General has pointed out that this thing has more holes in it than a sieve.

We also know that from Simon Coveney's reaction to some countries of consequence being added, that this Quarantine business was all optics to satisfy the baying mob. They have already moved back to the GAA so quarantine might be safe from discussion in the Irish Twitter Parliament for a while.

I imagine Donnelly is off on a solo run with this as he knows it's something that can win him back some support with the public, as he has proven himself to be hilariously incompetent otherwise.

Yes Im well aware of that. But it doesnt make it in any way acceptable or excusable. The general public are ridiculously foregiving, apathetic, lethargic, timid. The people should demand better. The fact that MM is not only still there but leader of the country is quite astonishing.

Except of course maybe CBP when your flight lands in the US.

But you can always try to tell them to shut up and let you in and that they need to stop listening to Tony. That usually works.

It is currently a legal requirement to quarantine if you have been in one of the listed countries within the previous 14 days.

This is the only topic on boards.ie that I have seen, where people are allowed to ask how to get away with breaking laws and promoting illegal acts, that is allowed to continue.

If I don't think I will get into the USA I won't go. I travel there regularly so clearly I am not interested in jeopardising future visits. I know I will be able to get into the EU or UK as I also mentioned in my post where I outlined my options but you ignored all that for some cringeworthy swipe.

Thanks for telling me what usually works though. I'll check if I can add the 'ignore' button to that list.

Each to their own, but MHQ won't be required from anywhere except perhaps Brazil by September.

That's not quite the same as "Once I am vaccinated there will be nothing stopping me" though

Don't forget you can also try "do you not know who I am" when they don't let you in.

They'll just say - "yes we know, sure it's on your bleedin' passport"

Belfast is to avoid taking the test on departure AND on arrival (which if you fail means off to covid jail with you presumably)

Belfast means a test before departure and quarantine in my own home. No laws broken but the risk of covid jail is removed.

That incompetent fool SD clearly thing MHQ is what's going to redeem him in the public's eyes and I wouldnt risk Dublin airport whilst hes making noises about jailing passengers on arrival.

Are there no checks for the non MHQ countries?

You missunderstand. Quarantine is mandatory in the Republic if you have been in one of the listed countries within the previous 14 days. That is regardless of the route you take in getting to here.

You are confusing "getting away with breaking the law" with it becoming legal.

I have to file my taxes and pay what is due. I can decide not to file or pay any tax and I can get people to pay me cash. So there is a good chance I might get away with it. It doesn't make it legal.

No problem with taking a test at my own expense but I do have an issue with quarantine,

That's fine. I was just pointing out that flying via Belfast doesn't change the law. Some people might not realise and get caught out unawares.
