They should make the Portwest bigger. I can barely see it. 🤔

You forgot "from space" at the end of your last sentence!!

I like that the sponsorship for Conor Mortimers shout outs is written in invisible ink. Its only visible when the blood of a galway man is spilt on the shirt
    apparently

To be fair, it's a lovely jersey. Apart from the collar, the sleeves and the sponsor on the back. 🙂

Didn't know O'Neills hired Stevie Wonder for the design department.

It looks like someone designed an Aussie rules jersey and then looked around for some sleeves to slap on it.
Oh and then they put dollops of white on the ends of the sleeves and on the neck.

I am not allowed discuss …

I'm thinking this lockdown and lack of live sport is getting to people.

All this debate about the jersey.

    I'm looking at it.
It's predominantly green with a red stripe.
    That's all I can see.
I can't see anything else worth discussing about it.
And as long as it's predominantly green with a red stripe I'm happy.

It's one thing having a debate about the away shirt, that one year is red and black the next year metallic blue, but the home one is predominantly green with a red stripe, the traditional colours.
I don't see how people see something wrong with it.

The pinstripe looks stupid. Collar and cuffs looks silly.

Glad tidings re Oisín Mullin's commitment to Mayo GAA for the time being.

I would ask why Horan had to add the conditions highlighted below. Sounds to me like he could be gone whenever travel allows.

"He’s fully focused at the minute on Mayo GAA, where he can go and how he can develop.

"At the moment Oisín is fully committed. He had a strong year and there’s plenty more to come from him.”

Yes I’d be worried about the wording of it too

No denying the lad is a talent and looks as if he would be really suited to the Aussie game. Hopefully he stays around long term, but unfortunately professional sports have major cheque books and he is one player who now having showcased just how good he is could get an offer it would be difficult to turn down.

This isn't far from being a meaningless statement given it's timing.

All it says is that he will be around for Mayo for the summer and autumn this year [although if the championship isn't run off until November/December that might even be in doubt, if he does sign a contract] This was always going to be the case when he hadn't agreed a contract by last October/November.

About whether he might be too old at this stage - it's hard to know with COVID but I would say the window isn't definitely closed at this stage. I would say if he doesn't sign a contract before the end of this year, the odds of him going would drop close enough to zero.

Starting salary for a rookie in 2022 is AUD $ 90,000 which is €58,500.
There's also a nice chunk of allowances and benefits - flights, accommodation, getting set-up, medical.
The initial two year rookie package is a fairly sweet deal - salaries in AFL have jumped up a lot in recent years - rookie salary in 2015 was AUD $ 55,440 which is just under €36k at today's exchange rates, which explains why the number of Irish in the AFL is the highest it has ever been.

Worth remembering that this is just the starting point. If a player makes it beyond the initial two-year rookie contract, there is the potential to make a serious chunk of change. The average salary for 2022 will be AUD $ 389,000 or €252k. The AFL have also eased the rules around Category B rookies starting from next year - previously they could only have one Irish rookie at a time whereas from next year they will be allowed have two, so don't except to see any slow-down on recruitment any time soon.

From memory Horan said the exact same thing last year about Oisin (just before the pandemic)
I imagine he was going to commit to Mayo for that summer and head off then,I think he'll go this Autumn.
If he wants to give it a try then i hope the pandemic isnt what stops him.

Great to see James Horan isn't finished with his quest to unearth new talent.

Our coaches got banned for breaking the rules. I assume the same pushiment will be dished out to all involved.

Not sure where I saw it yesterday but there was also a picture of three Kildare players training together who are also from the same club(think Athy) on a local community pitch.

I wish Dillon would **** off.

He's nothing but a puppet within the party.

I always think he was put in there because of the popularity of Mayo football, this carry on suggests he is playing up to that Audience,

    Such ****e!

Exactly. He's making plenty of assumptions there and calling for full investigations into what is a trivial matter imo when all is said and done.

    Nonsense.

I'd also prefer if Mayo GAA just kept their heads down and say nothing, don't get involved in it. Let's just concentrate on ourselves.

That's embarrassing imho. I don't follow politics that closely but this is the first time I've heard Dillon piping up about anything

Yes the Dubs were out of line and should be punished etc but the way this has been blown up is bananas.

Consultants doling out vaccinations to family members etc is a far bigger scandal than a few lads tapping a ball around in a park in Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,652 ✭✭✭✭km79

    Agree with all.
I think everyone needs to be careful about throwing stones. It was stupid and irresponsible but it’s going on in every county . They were just the ones who got caught !
We are probably the second highest profile team behind them so I’d be telling the likes of Dillon and Brady to keep quiet !

It sure is, but I dont think this is as simple as a few lads tapping around a ball. Everyone has their freedom restricted, and many (including myself) are calling for restrictions to be relaxed and to be trusted to do things safely. So when the government confirms a date when the GAA can return so long as they do it safely, and the standard bearers for the sport show even they cant be trusted, its a big deal. This wasnt an impromptu kick about, it was an organised training session and Id doubt it was the first. If they want to be classified as elite, that brings certain expectations.

Not front page news, but its not nothing. I think most of these restrictions are pointless personally, but if the elite dont abide by them the rest of us are stuck indefinitely.

It was ridiculous of them to ever think they could get away with it. Mind-boggling stupidity from Farrell, unbelievable really. Still don't think it's a big enough deal for Mayo GAA and supporters to get involved with though.

Dillon looks extremely petty in all of this.
