I definitely liking it more as the day goes on.
The 16/17 jersey and the commemorative Mayo day one are the nicest from the last decade,I'm looking forward to seeing this one in the flesh.

Didn't know O'Neills hired Stevie Wonder for the design department. :rolleyes:

It looks like someone designed an Aussie rules jersey and then looked around for some sleeves to slap on it.
Oh and then they put dollops of white on the ends of the sleeves and on the neck.

I'm thinking this lockdown and lack of live sport is getting to people.

All this debate about the jersey.

I'm looking at it.
It's predominantly green with a red stripe.
That's all I can see.
I can't see anything else worth discussing about it.
And as long as it's predominantly green with a red stripe I'm happy.

It's one thing having a debate about the away shirt, that one year is red and black the next year metallic blue, but the home one is predominantly green with a red stripe, the traditional colours.
I don't see how people see something wrong with it.

I was delighted when I read that. Is too early to think that his AFL opportunity is now missed?

I would ask why Horan had to add the conditions highlighted below. Sounds to me like he could be gone whenever travel allows.

No denying the lad is a talent and looks as if he would be really suited to the Aussie game. Hopefully he stays around long term, but unfortunately professional sports have major cheque books and he is one player who now having showcased just how good he is could get an offer it would be difficult to turn down.

This isn't far from being a meaningless statement given it's timing.

All it says is that he will be around for Mayo for the summer and autumn this year [although if the championship isn't run off until November/December that might even be in doubt, if he does sign a contract] This was always going to be the case when he hadn't agreed a contract by last October/November.

About whether he might be too old at this stage - it's hard to know with COVID but I would say the window isn't definitely closed at this stage. I would say if he doesn't sign a contract before the end of this year, the odds of him going would drop close enough to zero.

Starting salary for a rookie in 2022 is AUD $ 90,000 which is €58,500.
There's also a nice chunk of allowances and benefits - flights, accommodation, getting set-up, medical.
The initial two year rookie package is a fairly sweet deal - salaries in AFL have jumped up a lot in recent years - rookie salary in 2015 was AUD $ 55,440 which is just under €36k at today's exchange rates, which explains why the number of Irish in the AFL is the highest it has ever been.

Worth remembering that this is just the starting point. If a player makes it beyond the initial two-year rookie contract, there is the potential to make a serious chunk of change. The average salary for 2022 will be AUD $ 389,000 or €252k. The AFL have also eased the rules around Category B rookies starting from next year - previously they could only have one Irish rookie at a time whereas from next year they will be allowed have two, so don't except to see any slow-down on recruitment any time soon.

From memory Horan said the exact same thing last year about Oisin (just before the pandemic)
I imagine he was going to commit to Mayo for that summer and head off then,I think he'll go this Autumn.
If he wants to give it a try then i hope the pandemic isnt what stops him.

Not sure where I saw it yesterday but there was also a picture of three Kildare players training together who are also from the same club(think Athy) on a local community pitch.

Exactly. He's making plenty of assumptions there and calling for full investigations into what is a trivial matter imo when all is said and done.

Nonsense.

I'd also prefer if Mayo GAA just kept their heads down and say nothing, don't get involved in it. Let's just concentrate on ourselves.

That's embarrassing imho. I don't follow politics that closely but this is the first time I've heard Dillon piping up about anything

Yes the Dubs were out of line and should be punished etc but the way this has been blown up is bananas.

Consultants doling out vaccinations to family members etc is a far bigger scandal than a few lads tapping a ball around in a park in Dublin.
