So it seems like the Irish government is failing to do the necessary prior research on whether or not laws it imposes are legal and valid!

News from Scotland that worship bans are against European and Scottish Law.1 Stephen Donnelly late last year saying that the Mass ban was not a 'penal provision' now they are saying it is!2

And just today, news that forcing hotel quarantine costs on EU citizens could be illegal.3

It just goes from bad to worse with this government, on the back of mismanaging the vaccine rollout and all the attendant arrangements, so much left undone, even as of today talking about starting an online booking system - should have been sorted out last year!

Instead of seeking to reverse course, they just double down on their errors.

1 Scottish judge rules Nicola Sturgeon's church ban is unlawful as he declares criminalisation of worship unconstitutional, disproportionate and in breach of human rights (mail online 24th March 2021)

2 Government now says public Mass is an offence despite earlier denials (irish Catholic, 28th March 2021)

3 Attorney General warns Health Minister it may be illegal to charge EU citizens to stay in quarantine hotels (independent.ie today)

So what. We don't live in Scotland, and Scotland is not in the EU.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.
