where does this leave the passport office?!

It’s still on Lower Mount St, it hasn’t moved :p

It’s a fair question though given the level system is gone. When does passport printing resume?

I still cannot understand why the US would be put on a quarantine list when so many people there are fully vaccinated?

Not a chance that the US goes on the list. By the time the logistics and politics are sorted for these additional countries tone added, there'll be about 6 weeks before the adult population is vaccinated (those that want to be, anyway)

And then the action becomes completely disproportionate

standard renewals are being processed through online system.

different story for document related renewals etc...but i am guessing seen as the standard renewals are being processed the backlog will not be too long once reopened.

I tracked my application and there was an update today 31 March saying:

    Your application is being processed.

    Says now due 8th April.

I've never tracked it before so not sure if this is some kind of weekly update whereby it just rolls forward a week?

Or else this is a genuine update and they have actually started to process it?

On twitter they're saying standard adult renewals are being done and 20,000 have been done since December.

So wonder have they resumed service for passports that require documentation like mine? It's a bid coincidental that my tracking has been updated the day after the new government plan.

But maybe it's automatic and next week on 8th April it will just roll forward onto 15 April.

Has anymore been said since about this test on arrival? Is it a certainty or just more spoofing by Varadkar?

I agree with a lot do what your saying although I doubt Ireland will be swinging the doors open to tourism before the rest of the EU. I think the U.K. are more open to allowing international travel too

Other than that i can’t find any reason to launch vociferous attacks on you unfortunately :p:p

No vociferous attacks? I'm disappointed! :p
Ireland will likely have different restrictions to the UK, but 'less' or 'more' might depend on your location. If cases continue to rise across northern Europe, the UK is bound to take advantage of being outside the EU to block all travel from those countries, except for UK and probably Irish citizens. I could even see them allowing travel to sun destinations, but trying not to reciprocate for non-residents. Ireland will have to allow EU travel on the same terms as it allows travel for Irish citizens/residents, when the restrictions are relaxed. I can't see us cutting off travel from the US at this date either, and we are the only ones in the EU not to ban flights from most non-EU countries. So if the government does sign up to the vaccine green card, we will probably end up being the most open country in the EU again!
    (Double emphasis on 'if'.)

Is there a List of the proposed 43 Countries to join the List ?

You'd need to self isolate on return.

You could avoid procedure in relation to this by returning via Belfast or a ferry into NI

Well technically you still need to quarantine. If you are caught seems unlikely.

How many times must this be put to bed? You do not have an unquestionable right to move freely around the EU. Thats been stated time and time again since all this started.

Very much a throw away comment wasnt it? Along with the 43 additional countries.

Heaven forbid a well thought out plan with the required public information could go hand in hand with a press conferance

    The AG is concerned....

Has that gob****e Donnelly actually sought to do this?

I has thought it was just a murmur from some NPHET like body. Don't know why I'm surprised, true to form

Well there is the TFEU, the charter of fundamental rights and thankfully the AG https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/concern-plans-to-extend-hotel-quarantine-could-breach-eu-citizens-rights-1.4525043 .... and then there is your view.

Yes, it looks like the Minister of Trampolines has gone on a solo run with this one.

Not really ‘solo’ but he wants us to rejoin the UK.

    A classic from DFA....

A spokesperson for Mr Coveney said: "The required consultation with the Minister for Foreign Affairs has not happened yet.”

I read what the AG had to say to Donnelly on a few different sites today. I'm no legal eagle but I think the gist of what he said to him was 'cop the fcuk on'

I'd say most of government regret bringing in hotel quarentining in the first place. They don't even agree with it, they just did it on the back of public hysteria fanned by the opposition.

I agree: which means their heart isn’t really in it, so will inevitably be a sh1tshow that is nothing more than a token gesture. It’ll be the same with these supposed PCR tests for people coming into Ireland, whether by road, ferry or plane

The truth is they were really only trying to cut down on Brazilian Student immigration and the variant was a good excuse.
They have removed visa free travel from Brazil now on health grounds and you can bet it won’t be coming back any time soon.

But RTE this morning is reporting the consultation is going ahead so it’s not looking good, it’s happening they will succeed. Lets hope it will be temporary as the vaccines get rolled out.

Is the illegality charging them or imprisoning them? Because if it's the former no doubt SD will just add it to states bill that the taxpayer gets to pick up.

The AG has waded in Donnelly will want to try and save face. The fact the DOF is held by FG will work in the interest of saner decisions being made.

That’s not true. A process had been agreed in consultation with the AG on the creation of the initiative. Donnelly and his team didn’t follow it

Thats neither a bad nor good sign. Consultation with DFA was going to happen anyway. Given the AGs intervention and IBECs vocal concerns there is a reasonable chance that common sense will prevail. But I agree you'd have to be fearful given the abysmal performance so far of Donnelly.

I'll have the hose ready. No stray dog at the rubbish bin would have to scamper with such indignity as these imbeciles.

The politicians are only acting on the advice they are given no matter how stupid or impractical it is. Sadly the ones giving the advice face no such accountability as an election. (Don't take this as a defence of politicians because it's not intended as one)

I highly doubt it as it was a great little cottage industry for the corrupt Fianna Fail traitors to exploit, a 2 bed apartment with four bunk beds and another bunk bed in the living room equals ten students paying €5,000 per month cash unregistered or untaxed by the lowest sort of FF&FG landlord tramps imaginable, the types that give us good landlords a bad name. Then said lowlives can exploit the students for minimum or less wages in horrible crappy jobs like fully registered Brazilian nurses doing a nurses job on caregiver wages of €11-€12 per hour in a nursing home where a family comes together to chip-in to pay €1,200 per week. The majority of the English Schools have semi-literate teachers and are only glorified visa factories and they turn out English at a Junior infants level.

The FF&FG corrupt bourgeois will get the Brazil ban lifted very soon I would say.
