Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That's awful - what a shocking way to be told! I've everything crossed for you getting through this time!
aww thanks! I hope so too and have everything crossed for the lot of ye. I'm hoping the pandemic means that less people applied, and the fact that all current awardees just got a raise this year, is a good sign that there's a healthy budget for them to work with.

Jesus, that is shockingly harsh - given the amount of work the application takes, and how much you can end up investing in the application... I'm sorry that happened to you, and really hope it works out for you this year. Thanks for sharing, much appreciated. X

I emailed the council asking if they had any updates regarding results and they replied with the following:

"the council is not in a position to share any further update as to when the outcome of the call will be announced"

do with this information as you please O.o

Ooh interesting - what do you think that means? It'll be early / late?

I'm just holding out that it'll be next week at some point!

    Hey everyone,

After lurking on this thread for a bit I finally made a Boards account just to rant about this whole process lol.

It sounds from the above message like they might be late in posting the results of the assessment?

Bit worrying that they wouldn't be able to give an indication of the timeline now, considering we're days away from the planned deadline...

Considering the ridiculous time investment involved in applying (I must've spent the better part of a month on it...), I'd really have expected more communication tbh :-(

  • Registered Users Posts: 29 BuuuuuuuuuB

We have to wait till 1st April. We can do nothing, just waiting and see. I hope no delay in the deadline. Just a week friends.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 scottyboy13dub

Somebody else previously emailed then regarding results a couple of weeks ago to which the council (roughly) replied with "the applications are on track for the advertised deadline" --> so my thought process at this late stage with their reply is that potentially it could be late? Because why not just say they are on track as they did before you know?

It's pure speculation on my end tho, they could (and hopefully will be) advertised by next Wednesday..

They 100% should've been more engaging with applicants this year due to COVID situation, as things are already upside down and many people don't have the luxury to turn down job offers, etc...

Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing okay, the past week has been tough going. I know today in particular I really hoped I'd get the email and keep jumping everytime something pops into my inbox. I'm so glad I found this thread though - I applied for the AHSS stream under the PhD funding and have been so worried about my status remaining as 'ready for review' and not having heard about the first round outcomes. I made an account just to link in and send you guys my best wishes.

It's just been really tough going waiting - I think not being on campus had made it feel so isolating and I haven't been able to vent with other PhDs who applied for it too. It might interest you guys to know that a few weeks ago I emailed my HEA's support office for the IRC asking about whether they had heard anything and they said they hadn't been informed about any delay, so hopefully that's something??

Hopefully we'll hear on the earlier end of this week, it would be so cruel to have to go into April without knowing. Sending out good vibes to you all!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 29 BuuuuuuuuuB

    Great news bibble123.
If you can mail the IRC today about any updates. I mailed them more than one time with no reply.

I am completely useless at work today...just been refreshing the portal and my emails all morning.

I did go through the previous threads from the last 5 years to try to decipher a pattern....surprise there's none! :(

    2020: 29/6 - Monday
    2019: 1/4 - Monday
    2018: 27/3 - Tuesday
    2017: 23/3 - Thursday
2016: 19/7 - Tuesday (Council seemed to be a bit of a joke that year, so maybe ignore!)

Oooh so it looks like usually it's early week for results?

I keep refreshing the page / my emails.

haha I'm such a wreck I didn't even notice 4/5 were early in the week :D This wait is torturous lads

I emailed and they've advised that postdoc results will be out in April. The wait continues.

Did they indicate early or late April? The lack of transparency is disgraceful at this stage

I emailed and got this response just now

"The assessment process is ongoing and we hope to inform the applicants of the outcome in a timely manner. At this moment, the Council is not in a position to share any further update."

Take from that what you will

Are you applying for the PhD or the postdoc? My email response for the postdoc was that they were in the process of finalising the outcome and they were hoping to let applicants know by early April

That's very frustrating - hoping they can give more information about the phd results soon!

That.... does not instill me with a lot of hope. Sounds like it won't be until April at least then? Thanks for emailing them sepiolida, really appreciate it

It's understandable if they're delayed but the lack of communication is so disheartening and upsetting

Maybe the fact that they haven't told us PhD applicants about a possible April results date is because our results are coming out soon? (Hopefully, lol).. important to note that the application deadline for postdocs was a couple of weeks after the PhD one..

    SPECULATION

I was successful last year and the subject line said "IRC outcome" rather than if it was successful or not.
I was shaking and literally had to read it 10 times before I could believe what I was reading.
The email also included my final score and the cut off score.
    Good luck everyone.
I predict you will hear on Thursday

Hi everyone. I’m so glad I found this thread!

I’m a postdoc applicant and I’ve been obsessively checking the status of my application since the end of last week. I was convinced that we’d have heard at least something by now – even if it was just to say the site was down while it was being updated.

I agree with sepiolida and bibble123, they should make it a bit more transparent. If they aren’t in a position to let applicants know until April sometime then wouldn’t it be a lot easier on everyone – including the people who are fielding the emails - to just put up a quick statement to that effect on their website or send an email?

I mean, fair enough if it’s going to be a few days late or whatever but why torture everyone? What’s with all the cloak and dagger and Cluedo stuff?

I swear this is giving me ulcers

  • Registered Users Posts: 57 ✭✭blizzardofone

Definitely - it seems odd that there has been no update on the website or even a quick email to all applicants to let us know what's happening.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 clemfandango5

I emailed in relation to the postdoc and they replied:

“We are currently working on the outcome of the Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme. We anticipate being able to update applicants via email correspondence in early April”

    And so the wait continues…

Great news. It seems to be 1st April. Two looooong days.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 clemfandango5

Hopefully BuuuuuuuuuB! I really hope so. Unless ‘update’ means it’s fudged up and we’ll be sending you all an email in early April to tell you that it’ll be delayed for a few weeks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 29 BuuuuuuuuuB

I do not think so there will be a delay clemfandango5.
They said "currently working on the outcome".

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 clemfandango5

Fingers crossed for the 1st April!

Does this mean postgrad funding results are a long way to go?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 clemfandango5

Sorry AMS_theother1, I only asked about the postdoc. I hope you get clarification soon. Perhaps chance your arm and drop them a line. Surely the worst that can happen is that they don’t reply? All the best.

I feel exactly the same. Now my anxiety has switched to checking this thread every couple of hours for updates, as well as my own email and the site! Can't focus on anything else.

Every couple of HOURS? I admire your restraint, I'm checking every few minutes :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 57 ✭✭blizzardofone

I know they said early April, but I'm still checking my emails and the portal today like every half hour

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 clementine5

Hopefully we'll hear back soon I'm happy I can keep up to date with other going through the same thing. I got an email in the middle of December from the council asking what I intended to do with my current source of funding if I were successful in securing an IRC scholarship. So I guess they have been assessing the applications or at least checking for eligibility since then? Hopefully it will be on time or at least early April would be manageable

PhD Scholarship Guidelines definitely states "End of March" as the time frame for announcing the results. It's the last day of March. In theory, today is the day but thus far my inbox has been as silent as the grave..........

Have you emailed them asking OGrady2212? I emailed a couple of days ago and got the vague response you'd expect but maybe they might tell you something now?

I emailed them regarding postgrad being delayed and they said:

"Considering today is the 31st March, I think it is safe to say the outcome will be in April, though I cannot give you a specific date at this point."

Fair play emailing them. My stomach's in knots waiting. But really, why did they reply so snippily? Surely they knew before today that announcements would be delayed and could have tweeted something.

Thanks very much for emailing them and reporting the reply here! Disappointing but better to know than to keep refreshing my inbox haha. I guess it could take anytime from a few more days to a few more weeks, so I'll do my best to stop thinking about it in the meantime. Talk to you all when we start to hear back!

I'm the same - I'm going to step back from this group - the support we've able to give each other is great, but at the same time, I'm getting more anxious by focusing on it all the time. We'll hear when we hear, and as soon as we do, I'll be back here to cheer you all on. Mind yourselves x

Alright they told me we will find out the first phase tomorrow. I assume everyone got the same email?

So probably there has been some sort of delay. Weird that we are getting a first and second phase after all.

Is this for postdoc or PhD?! I haven't got an email :(
