I had 2 separate deliveries today by An Post. Those guys would be on nice money for today so nothing to do with Amazon directly.

The lad who delivered to me definitely wasn’t an An Post worker.

No An Post deliveries out in the country but didn't expect any.
Im in a smallish town and I was surprised to have received a delivery today.

Definitely An Post with the first order as I know the guy and opened the door to him when he knocked. The second delivery was for my wife ... arrived a couple of hours after the first but it was obviously a different person as they just opened the door and set the parcel in the hallway which is the norm for our usual postman. She got texts in advance from An Post saying the item would be delivered today so it had to be them.

All my contacts came from Amazon through there app including a live map of where the driver was and how many stops he was from my home that isn't an An Post service that is an Amazon service.

I dont doubt that at all.

I was merely replying to another poster pointing out that some deliveries today were by An Post

How do you find that in the app (how many stops away the delivery guy is), I can never see this level of detail.

you only see it when they are close. within about 30 minutes of reaching you I reckon.

No, it's 8 stops away that the map becomes available. Before Brexit for me that was about 30 minutes, since then it could be up to 3 hours.

Yesterday (and now) I am only getting offered standard delivery on any items that I want to order.

All comes up as prime but when it's time to complete the order it's "Tuesday" with standard delivery only.

Even tried something that I got as priority on Tuesday and same there, all is Standard delivery only.

    Prime membership is still valid.

    Anybody else seeing this?

No, I can't find anything in stock that will take longer than Saturday to arrive, have Prime, and priority showing as the delivery option. Across a wide range of categories a book, a lego set, a drill bit set, and a first aid kit refill set would all be here on the 20th.

What date is showing on the item page? the Free delivery: Saturday, March 20th. Order within 18 hours 1 MINUTE as opposed to the checkout stage?

Thanks. This gave me an idea and voila if I change my address to something in Dublin I get the same Saturday with the 15 hour counter. Includes premium delivery.

Change it back to my real address in Cork and everything is going up to Tuesday with around 14 hours left.

Looks like the times to Cork are significant higher and no more premium delivery.

Cork is still covered by An Post, and their default delivery is 3 days. I suppose until Amazon get their own delivery system set up it will stay like that.

An Post don't do weekend delivery in general (I know they do Saturday delivery in some areas) so Tuesday seems reasonable. It's quite possible that you'd get it on Monday though.

Didn't used to be that way until this week Tuesday, I always got priority delivery offered for Cork.

Even during the brexit confusion/high volume phase the parcel was still down as priority, not as standard and while it sometimes took 3 days to get down from Dublin, this had drastically improved since Feb.

In fact, more often than not it was here 48 hours after getting shipped. Just last weekend ordered Saturday and delivered on Tuesday this week.

Anything I wonder due to An Post closing its sorting office there?

Wake me up when it's all over.

You could still get packages faster than what they are quoting...

    Maybe.

So, it looks like (at least for me), Amazon is now treating Cork as no longer being eligible for Priority Delivery.

I added an address in Limerick and it gets priority delivery, back to Cork address (tried both my home and office) and standard delivery only.

Now standard delivery is not only faster AnPost delivery (supposed to) but it also means priority when shipping from their fulfillment center, my Wednesday orders still have not shipped.

Clearly something has happend to Cork, anybody else in Cork having Prime and seeing something similar?

Checked the tracking yesterday around 4pm - showed 8 stops away. Next thing I get a text saying package left on letterbox
Time on that was 3.45pm - except I don't have letterbox.......
Was on to customer service but am concerned as I have a more expensive item due today that's needed for Monday

Well I'm sure you know the only issue is your time scale the money is safe and you'll get a refund if you don't get it.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Just tried to send an item back to Amazon that has a battery in it, An Post wouldn't take it because they apparently won't ship anything with a built in battery (which seems crazy to me). Does anyone know if I can just rock up to somewhere like DPD/UPS/etc with a package and they'll ship it for me? I have the return label, obviously if I have to pay for it then so be it.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 14,862 Mod ✭✭✭✭whiterebel

Lithium batteries are prohibited on An Post as they may ship on an aircraft, where they are hazardous. You can ship it with overland couriers such as Nightline, or have a look at parcel2go.com, but you will have to pay for it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Interested Observer

Thanks. I live quite close to UPS (who now own Nightline I see) so might just try them and see if they'll take it. I was half tempted to just say it didn't have a battery but presume it would be scanned going onto a plane and don't want it to end up in limbo somewhere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,416 ✭✭✭VG31

Contact Amazon via the chat and tell them An Post won't take it because batteries are prohibited. They should be able to give you a UPS label.

Just tried to send an item back to Amazon that has a battery in it, An Post wouldn't take it because they apparently won't ship anything with a built in battery (which seems crazy to me).

This is not an An Post restriction. This is an international air restriction on passenger planes (most post goes in the cargo hold of passenger planes) and applies to every country.

Specialist air cargo companies like DHL/Fedex/UPS will put any hazard items into a specific cargo box.

What you need is to either return the items to Amazon returns in Portlaoise if Amazon will allow you do that (if sold by Amazon, that should be no issue, if sold by a 3rd party and delivered by Amazon, it might be an issue), or send it by a road/sea delivery service. DPD, GLS & UPS standard are the main options

That's Amazon's own delivery people. Just get on to customer care, they'll put you through to the logistics team

There doesn't seem to be an option to contact customer care on their website, is there a number I can ring?
