Exactly, last summer with 4 cases per day they were on every night with their concerned hand wringing.

Repeat the same thing over and over and it's inevitable that people will stop listening.

and the public lap it up, from our betters.

"Hold firm" is the mantra of the entitled. Many of us have been forced to hit the pause button for over a year, with the economic and psychological fallout all but ignored. Meanwhile vaccines are dribbling along at a few thousand every day, not even 10% of the population have received their first jab. And then you have the dynamic duo Martin and Varadkar contradicting each other and muddying the waters on a regular basis. The communication these past few months has been nothing short of scandalous, and blaming an increasingly fed-up public only stirring the pot further.

And you think there'll be mass travel before June anyway ?? Not a chance.

Your taking Glynns comments completely out of context by saying we won't be participating in EU travel as that was never insinuated nor mentioned. The travel landscape isn't going to look much different in the next 2 months.

And would you blame them? No plan,no idea how we get out of this mess,if they came out and said we need cases/hospitalizations/ICU at a certain level and a % vaccinated before X is opened then at least people could see light at the end of the tunnel

Can they impose additional restrictions like quarantine on return to make it so difficult we won’t benefit?

I see "long covid" was thrown into the mix by Glynn at the end of the press conference

This is some text from it

The Digital Green Certificate can serve as proof of vaccination, testing and recovery in order to waive restrictions to free movement put in place in a Member State on public health grounds, such as testing or quarantine requirements.

Golf, Tennis, Construction, Click & Collect and maybe in country travel is all we will get until May, unfortunately.

    Absolutely.
We need a plan with clear milestones that people can look forward to and work towards.
What we have is a complete lack of communication and urgency from those in charge.
    It’s just not working anymore.

Not . Only clowns are those commenting on it when they obviously don't have breeze ...

Tonight's briefing was essential because of the day that was in it yesterday and Easter onthe way .
Some people like to know where things are and which way it's going and tend to not see doom and gloom because focus is on other things .
Also it was pretty positive or more so than last one , and in spite of the " stabilising " or otherwise stalling of cases .
Talking about opening up outdoor activities before all vaccinated , before end of June .

But do you watch it ? If you did you would know that ...

Did Ronan Glynn really say no non essential travel until the end of June? So people won’t be allowed to travel to, for example, visit their parents living outside their county until the end of June. Even if those parents have been vaccinated. Even if they haven’t seen said parents for over a year.

If I was to pick a day when NPHET totally lost the crowd, today’s press conference would be it. Ronan Glynn has no business telling us what the government should or shouldn’t be doing in 3 months times.

    No.
Glynn: "I don't see our advice [on international travel] changing in the short-term… up to the end of June".

There's some jumping the gun going on in the outrage tonight.

The Irish times article refers to non essential travel. That doesn’t just mean travel abroad, it means any non essential travel.

It was said in the context of rising cases internationally across Europe .

Obviously would have some bearing if you yourself were vaccinated and travelling to see vaccinated family .

I suppose the only crowd he is " losing" here would be those who may want to head off on non essential travelling before it is safe to do so .

I’m surprised that people are surprised by this to be honest. It’s been well flagged up by government that foreign travel isn’t on the cards for the foreseeable. Does no one remember Leo advising us to staycation again this year?

Well if you listened to the man speaking, he was specifically talking about international travel. But take a second hand report if it's suits the agenda.

I'm happy to be corrected, that's why I asked if that is what he really said. If he said ""international travel" then fine. But "non essential" travel is what the Irish Times have reported.

I would think even this is in jeopardy now.

With France and Germany increasing restrictions, NPHET will point to those and say it's too risky, even though our incidence rate is far lower.

    It was non-essential foreign travel.

    The Irish Times states
While the EU is planning to open up travel for people who are vaccinated, have been tested or have had a recent infection, Dr Glynn said there will be “no change” to the advice of the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) against international travel before the end of June.

The object is to prevent variants being brought into the country before majority of people vaccinated

Thanks. The first paragraph of the Irish times report says "non-essential travel", doesn't mention international. Usual sloppy journalism I guess
