EMA endorses AZ as safe and benefits outweighs risks and doesn't have increased risk of clots.

Helen Mc Entee now wants the Gardai vaccininated after the vulnerable . That would mean the 65-69 being pushed back once again . Must say that would seriously piss me off .

    That would be unethical imo.

Think key workers are in group 10. Think this is a result of the people in this group being defined.

Fair play to them, but spending your days putting tiny bottle brushes up peoples noses is some job!

Once you've seen one nasal cavity you've seen them all I guess.

Think it's done in shifts - you might only have a couple of hours each day doing the swabbings - and then you might be off doing admin etc for the rest of it, talking to people over the phone trying to arrange/convincing them to get tested is another big part of the day to day AFAIK.

They're under a bit more pressure now, even as numbers come down - some of the swabbers were HSE staff that were redeployed to that and are now being brought back to their original roles, they had the army in there too, but some of them are gone with vaccination, as are other staff who've also been redeployed for vaccination.

Makes you think about how interconnected the whole system is, if there's a growth in cases that requires more swabbers, chances are people will be redeployed back again from the vaccination programme. That's another risk from higher numbers and higher demand for testing that could potentially delay the vaccination programme somewhat

I can understand them being prioritized over prisoners and direct provision people.

I'd support it if I thought they Gardai were going to go full on in enforcing traveller abidance by the rules. Then they'd need that protection given the increased risk. But right now I'm not sure they are in the line of fire.

I don't think there's much, if any, crossover between vaccinators and swappers. I know people doing both and they are very clearly designated to their particular roles.

Guess people in congregated settings are deemed to have greater risk but the provisional list could be changed as time goes on.

I see that we now have the 3rd lowest rate of infection in the EU - only Iceland and Portugal are better.

    https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/cases-2019-ncov-eueea

Our infection rate is less than 40% of the EU average.

I have this feeling with the stalling of numbers, they are buttering us up for an extension of Level 5 till at least June.

    That's possible but hopefully not

Think they'd see levels of compliance really dropping if it's that long

If they think that will wash with the public they're more disconnected than I ever imagined.

Carers seem to have been forgotten also. Paid carers are being vaccinated but family carers are not prioritised at all. We’d qualify as a family carers but our child wouldn’t be extremely vulnerable. But some families are incredibly vulnerable and should be prioritised. In many cases there’s nobody available to step in for caring duties if main carer is hospitalised.

Reuters reports that the UK’s medicine regulator (MHRA) has said that there have been five cases of a rare type of blood clot in the cerebral brain among AstraZeneca vaccine recipients.

Any speculation or indication on whether they will open the tourism sector in April?

Yes, in 11 million people. And causality not determined. Why did you miss that part out?

Id imagine no shot that they will be opened.

The leaks were construction and an extension to the 5k and some outdoor activities. That was it. That's all bwell get til May.

    Too early, can't see it.

I'd say they will be shamed/forced in to opening up the country to EU tourism no matter what in June.

Someone needs to word for word ask Leo the questions he asked in October when asking NPHET.

Primarily what is their plan if Level 5 fails to bring cases down to 100 a day.

    They have no plan.
