This "they" and "us" stuff is very hard to understand. Who are they? Who are us / we? They, as far as I can see, are people doing their very best (which on occasions isn't remotely good enough I accept) faced with a global pandemic - something no one alive has ever dealt with before. And they almost all have husbands / wives / kids / parents/ siblings doing all the same stuff / and facing all the same risks and challenges as the rest of us. So "they" are very much part of "us".

Well said. These conspiracy theorists have lost the plot.

Unless they announce over 1000 cases I don't think anyone cares anymore. Its all background noise now.

It's amazing watching national burnout in action. NPHET appear to have lost the people, as have the media and the government.

Lockdown works, Christmas is a great study of what happens when you don't

The current lockdown is nothing close to a proper lockdown and the unwillingness to enforce it robustly is why it is dragging on.

Christmas is a great study of what happens when you lockdown needlessly and pent-up demand happens.

Several countries locked down over christmas and saw a spike.
Several countries didnt lock down over christmas and saw a spike.

But only ireland with lockdowns in lead up to christmas, only to reopen weeks before so everyone had to do all christmas shopping & socialising in a 2 week window - only Ireland saw such a big spike. Is it any wonder.

Cancer the real scourge on humanity, pity we couldn’t wipe that out.

    That is on BionTech's list!

Strip NPHET of their very well-paid positions and lock them down for 6-months.

See how long they last before asking for restrictions to be lifted.
Eh they all have day jobs anyway.

Now Scotland have a clear plan out of lockdown.

When are we getting our plan? Is the expectation that we will get our plan in Early April? (I know construction is expected to resume on 5 April and personal services/gyms/hairdressers in Early to Mid May but there is a lack of any real detail beyond that).

You'd expect indicators towards the end of next week but it's all down to the numbers so probably not confirmed until the end of the month, so the week after next.

This actually seems pretty slow considering where their vaccinations are at.

E.g. From end of June 6 people from 3 households can socialise indoors. That's not great

3 households in the one room would feel like a concert in the O2 at this stage.

Why did you just pick June to September?

When cases, hospitalizations and deaths were at the lowest.

Why ignore all other Covid-related deaths.

The thing is, according to the Dept of Health, on average between 300-500 and it can be up to 1000 people die every Winter in Ireland from flu. This year ZERO. As a society we have accepted these deaths as normal but we eradicated it this winter. Should we do a lockdown every winter?

We've had over 4,500 deaths WITH restrictions. Can you imagine how many more we'd have with no restrictions.

Covid and flu are not comparable at all. Over a year into this and people are still trying to draw similarities with influenza. Unbelievable.

That's just silly now, come on.

You know what happens when restrictions are lifted too much and too soon, so what alternatives do NPHET have when we don't have a vaccinated population.

I get people are fed up but there needs to be some common sense here instead of emotionally fuelled nonsense.

3 households in 1 room while a few miles over down the road in England no restrictions at all. Best of luck with that Nicola.

Why was that Irish Times article published about just a 4 month period? Seems very odd, like obviously COVID was not a major cause of death during the period when just 191 people died of it, by far the lowest period of transmission of the entire pandemic? LIke it's so just so weird, I don't understand why it was published at all, seems like a deliberate attempt at misleading almost, given it was the least newsworthy period of the pandemic, so much so that restrictions were almost not needed.

Because the CSO released their metric for Q3 2020 today. https://www.cso.ie/en/releasesandpublications/ep/p-vs/vitalstatisticsthirdquarter2020/

    lift the 5km restriction immediately!

It makes no sense at all. Especially now that the good weather has arrived. Stop cooping people up in small parks in Dublin, all on top of each other. Allow people disperse!!!

Weddings with 50 people at the end of April, but no alcohol. May as well just outright ban them really.

In 3 and a half months time?

They'll be doing well to have any adherence to that when their entire adult population has been offered a vaccine.

Gonna be some house parties across the country tonight. People are fed up.

Pity ya can't go to a regulated environment like a pub with table service or even have outdoor events to be setup.

But sure what can ya do. 300 or so in hospital out a population of 4,900,000.

Its not like the vaccinations are not working or anything.

Even a sense of hope of going back to Level 3 in April but the government treating us like fools.

    Protests should be interesting tomorrow!!!!

The checkpoints are a nonsense at this stage, out in force in Dublin yesterday again for some reason when they seemed to have been getting less and less in recent weeks .....(paddies maybe? whatever who cares) ...the one on the quays by Guinness's is a fking joke at this stage, the tailbacks caused and they most likely just wave everyone through most of the time, wasting everyones time
