I like how upbeat, energetic, and positive Philip Nolan sounds this evening.

    Is this sarcasm?

    Numbers seem to be fluctuating a lot, last 14 days in Wicklow cases have been 9, 10, 9, 8, 25, 12, 3, 7, 14, 15 <5, <5 and back to 15 today.

Not sure if it's a sign of contact tracing picking up cases or just a delay in cases being reported.

22 cases in Cork, I thought protests were super spreaders, it's been 8 days?

Thats the excuse now to prolong the lockdown til the end of summer at least

'Can't be having young people meeting up in places like beer gardens etc'

Believe me there will be a big crowd around the place on Paddys day, drinking takeaway pints etc. The guards will have a busy day

Cork has a population of 125,000 people.

With 22 cases, I'd like to think the risk of super spreader events outside is comparatively low.

Deaths can take up to 3 months to be notified.

Some people might finally connect with this reality at the 153rd mention :D

If anything the last 12 months has shown, the large outdoor gatherings never appear to impact on numbers. Similarly, the thousands coming home from abroad never seem to have any impact either.
It appears that most current spread is by and large domestic spread through indoor household gatherings no matter how big or small.

Is there a big problem down your way with gangs of roving preteens gathering in beer gardens?

I agree but it wasn't being built up as low risk in the lead up. Anyone there was a "Covidiot".

I eagerly await the day for zero daily COVID cases; I really do. Some say it will trigger a spontaneous performance of dance from Philip Nolan on the press conference table.

Very rough Maths here so open to correction

That's roughly the equivalent to 220 cases in Dublin (population; 1.2 Million)?

    Today Dublin had 232

So, there's not much a big difference between Cork and Dublin?

They'll stop reporting cases long before that day comes I reckon.

Cork has a population of over half a million though. Unless they are reporting cases separately for the city?

They’ll be concerned the drop in case numbers has plateaued

So who said Cork had a population of 125,000? :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,106 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

    Exactly

Figures for population are based on 2016 census

    Cork had 542,868 people

The figures for Cork are county wide not just Cork City

Would you have recent figures for Dublin LEAs?

    Thanks

An weekly increase in cases was certain with such an increase in testing (5960 extra tests carried out) No journalist in that press briefing bothered to ask why such a weekly increase in tests and if mass testing was going on?

Yes, but Cork city (125k) is where the potential super spreader event was held.

And it didn’t seem to have an affect on case numbers
