This should be enough to open up to some middle ground...outdoors dining, no travel ban, outdoor sports- especially for kids, clik n collect for shopping- already doing for food. Any easy win that can say to the county...we're heading the right way

It should be but it isn't. That's what I mean when I say people blindly peddle what the government are saying.

The numbers don't support the level of restrictions currently in place. They're 5 weeks behind on opening things up.

There's a possibility that I'm out of sync with you but this journalist isn't as bad as the one we know that will eventually ask their usual round of questions. (Perhaps that's who you're referring to?)

They don't support it at all. Must've been a typo when they said DATA NOT DATES - makes a cod of that statement.

    New variant?

The New York one? Not a concern yet. Even Glynn was transparent there. It's not a variant of concern. It may become one, it may not. Even then being a variant of concern just means it's a variant that requires monitoring because it could cause potential issues. It may not. It just needs closer watching.

I've said it before but after 10 seconds of listening to Glynn, it makes you want to reach for a bottle of whiskey.

And you can double that dose when Philip Nolan is speaking.

Holohan doesn't possess an energy surplus either.

Uninspiring leadership isn't even the beginning of the problem.

Tbf it must be rather hard to make the 13th month of a pandemic onslaught seem interesting with all its attendant false dawns and disappointments
( especially the vexatious vaccine supply setbacks which Nphet can do nothing about)
These briefings naturally are sober events dealing with facts and findings as well as repetitive questions -what do people expect ...a song and dance act ,a puppet show ?
Why watch them at all-when the main points will emerge in print after anyway?

    New variant?

NY variant may create vaccine issues. In New York, a new variant that carries a mutation that may weaken the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines has been identified as the B.1.526 variant. It was first discovered in November, and now accounts for about one in four viral sequences in a database shared by scientists, according to the New York Times.

    Exactly.

The way she asks the questions - she's always looking to stir it.

Glynn just said that "...with the high levels of cases we are having in recent days".

    400-600 cases, high!?

With the UK variant, maybe this is the new 120-150 cases

Sounds like Tony was on the phone after Monday to tell them to tone down the positivity.

Yeah thought you might be talking about her alright. Pretty sure there was something else last week as well that she kept digging for, no answer would suffice

Second traveller funeral in Carrick On Shannon since February, this one is simply outrageous. 50 extra guards drafted in, numerous English and northern plates all over town. The marquee erected behind the halting site is capable of holding minimum 200.Latest update on Leitrim Oberver states that a large group have broken through the Gardai checkpoint with large amounts of alcohol. The entitlement culture on display is scandalous.

When this is all over, serious questions are going to be asked about the 'customs' and 'traditions' of that community, given the utter disregard they have shown for their own health and that of the wider populace.

What's the name of the "journalist" who has a fetish for asking Dr. Glynn many repetitively stupid and inane questions, to the point where he looks clearly and understandably frustrated?

In the meantime, take a shot every time you hear the phrase, "The Disease".

I think the mother can attend the funeral, and also the father and up to 8 more family members, is the figure not 10 for funerals now?

    True

RTE made a major deal out of the Limerick student party story

I don't think the Leitrim story will get the same coverage
