    582 swabs

    A bit disappointing.

Yes, at least the + rate is slightly lower though.

Whilst there's still a declining trend in the cases, I sense the lockdown is going to shortly stop working. And one of the primary reason for this IMO is the curtain twitching culture whereby people are afraid to be seen to meet outside, so congregate indoors. It's been led by ideological freaks who do not live in the real world with any understanding of the emotions of people. Just to point out, that the 5th April is still almost a full month away.

Basically, outdoors with the social distancing good, indoors bad. That is pretty much the simple message they need to be giving now!

So we're left with an approach that is costing an absolute fortune but which will soon cease work.

    This is frustrating.

Both MM & Varadkar have basically hinted at 6 weeks from the week before 5th April which brings you into first week or so of May

More tests today than last week. It's fairly in line with what would be expected for circa 1,200 more tests

This carry on today wont help:
Large crowd pictured in marquee erected for Traveller mourners
A large marquee was erected today at the Shannonside View estate in Attirory, Carrick-on-Shannon.

A large crowd of Travellers assembled in the area throughout the day.

The marquee appears to be full of people.

    poster
Portaloos were also erected and an English registered jeep was parked across the entrance to the estate.

There were a number of checkpoints in the area earlier in the day and this evening there remains a large and visible Garda presence in the Attirory area.

The mourners have gathered prior to a funeral which is due to take place tomorrow, Thursday.

Too close to the June Bank Holiday.

    Yup

They'd never allow us to be open before a bank holiday

The only bank holiday where we even had restaurants open last year was August

Is there any chance they could move some of the Bank Holidays this year??? Looks like we are on lockdown for all of the spring/summer bank holidays?! Or maybe switching this is a ridiculous idea??

I trust they will all be asked to reflect on their actions and write a five page essay, oh yeah and the €100 fine aswell.
It was good enough the young students to be treated this way in Galway can't be having discrimination now can we?

We’re definitely running the risk of cases increasing again as we simply are staying in lockdown for way too long. 8 days of inter county travel allowed in what will be half a year has to be the strictest in the world.

Give people something or lots of flouting of restrictions will be happening soon. It already is to an extent.

No reason to doubt this being true, but why wouldn't the EU approach them to get that 200m additional capacity, no matter what the cost ?

I cant say but it is true as the Swiss Govt confirmed that they turned the offer down. I dont know why the full capacity was not requested

All of the rights, and none of the responsibilities. Any condemnation of such flagrant disregard for social distancing will have Pavee Point crying foul. Enda Kenny's greatest legacy, what a wonderful little basket case of a country we live in. One in which people's lives are put on hold until late May because the HSE is delicate as porcelain while the vaccines are delivered at a snail's pace.

6 weeks would be from the 5th I would think

Same way announcement was the Tuesday before 5th of March but the extension of restrictions was a month to 5th of April

Possibly but that would only be 17th instead of 23rd. Guess really until they officially announce its fairly up in the air.

And yet we have several articles in newspapers bemoaning Travellers' high Covid infection rate and blaming society. Not to mention they're high up the vaccination list, and got priority testing when testing was scarce.

If it's really the 17th at this point they might just take last year plan, cross 2020 on it and call it a day.

Kids going back to school again next week. Dont think they will be back too long before we are in the 1,000s again. People are sick of all this restrictions. House parties will ensue for Paddys and mass gatherings. Mehole n Viruka ya cant just say "another 6 weeks" to every question about restrictions.

They're probably happy to let the public break the rules so they can shift the blame to us as usual rather than accept their approach has a time limit on its effectiveness.

They have been promising an extra one since last year. Whether that will ever materialise or when is anyones guess!

It was May 18th last year step 1 reopening wasn’t it?

That Monday people were queuing in the car parks of hardware stores.

Nearly 5,000 non-residents flew into Ireland last week.
Good luck with the numbers coming down any time soon.
Can the government get their heads out of their cracks for one minute and put two and two together?

This is my fear as well , being in level 5 too long and people are getting pissed off and it’s people who would have stuck rigidly with restrictions in the past.
See local to me older people back meeting up teenagers getting together and people traveling beyond the 5km limit.
So what’s the answer next if numbers creep up ? restrictions will only work if people adhere to them, asking people isn’t working anymore. Constantly telling people we could be in some form of level 5 beyond May is definitely going to make people say **** it and try to live a normal life.
Government in real risk of losing the people so the risk is very real of numbers rising again.
Whatever way you look at it the number of deaths , tests and cases is just not good enough this far into level 5.

This is a zero covid status agenda here, the casual manner in which they're doling out extensions says it all...something's gotta give and a few bars up on the mercury will see everyone getting on and getting out..there will be no stopping them and rightly so...

Second traveller funeral in Carrick On Shannon since February, this one is simply outrageous. 50 extra guards drafted in, numerous English and northern plates all over town. The marquee erected behind the halting site is capable of holding minimum 200.Latest update on Leitrim Oberver states that a large group have broken through the Gardai checkpoint with large amounts of alcohol. The entitlement culture on display is scandalous.

Yeah I think a return to level 3 mid-April or so would be tolerable, hearing them potentially push that back to mid-May or worse is just pathetic.
We'd all love that but we look to be going to the end of April anyway. Mid-May is about as far as they can go on wide scale restrictions.

Whats the bigger problem - the 5,000 people who flew in, most of whom will have adhered to quarantine requirements in spite of the hysteria, and were likely to be coming from lower virus areas and highly unlikely that more than a few% were carrying the virus, or the 3,500 actual cases here in the last week?

There are some essential activities that require people to enter the country. A good portion of the 5,000 will have been those
