This place would explode if ireland produced 5 million doses of the vaccine and only got 1.1%

The timeframe to actually get production in place makes this a completely nonsensical suggestion imo

Given the turnover of patients in nursing homes, I doubt herd immunity would actually be possible in them.

That would be assuming no one died in the nursing homes since March 2020. It would be harder to aquire natural herd immunity in those settings. However the vaccines will give them all herd immunity.

When all the over 70s are vaccinated, yes they will. You also double test anyone coming in to stay. 48 hrs before, keep isolated for 5 days and test again.
It's not the residents will be the worry.

I take immunosuppressant medication for a serious underlying condition. I also have sky high blood pressure managed by meds.
I rang my hospital (St Vincents) today to find out if/when I would be vaccinated.
The senior nurse told me that they have no idea. Not for me, not for their cancer patients, not for their renal patients, not for anyone. No idea. No information. They are astonished.

    I am not feeling confident.

Good few sources I've seen reporting the same numbers.

Lots of vaccines leaving the EU for other destinations, including UK and US (who have none leaving their jurisdictions for Europe).

Poor staff I'm referring to, sadly the old folks never stood a chance

They are residents btw, not patients, that's there home, it's not a hospital

That's just appalling. I am beginning to feel the Brits were right all along.

Irexit is looking better each day this **** show continues.

There are literally billions of people left to vaccinate. However I am not sure lots of small factories is the way to go. If we can make a worthwhile contribution, then sure.

They don't they don't have enough capacity to export. That's why they have placed orders ages ago with India.

It has nothing to do with the EU, they are an American business exporting goods that have been bought and paid for months ago. Get this EU thing out of your head, the EU is just a customer waiting on deliveries, like most other countries.

Should the EU have blocked and in the future block export of Pfizer vaccine to the UK until they have enough capacity to export just as you've said the UK has done? (never an answer, always a chicken to answer).

And they are EU controlled vaccines, just ask the Ozzies about that.

The UK is being a complete hypocrite, it's OK to own it. The chest thumping machismo disappears pretty quickly (especially when bojo is the one doing it).

Of course this will be ignored by a certain cohort.

Why not just nationalize them and go the full CCP instead. If the EU block then the other side do likewise and Pfizer production grinds to a halt, then what?

Moderna has confirmed it has dosed it's first trial participants for the booster against variant B.1.351 (mRNA-1273.351)

The UK has blocked exports and no one has stopped their supply of materials, should the EU do the same as the UK? Simple question.

Just get it in your brain. Say it slowly and repeat. The UK has not blocked exports, the UK has not blocked exports. You are blaming a Country and not the company for delays.

OECD chief economist says "In Europe, we are late. Not only are we not producing enough, but on top of that, even with the doses we have in Europe, we're not using them. We must absolutely move up to a war footing," Laurence Boone told Euronews.

The OECD have upgraded most countries growth predictions, the EU having the lowest upgrade due to hesitancy and pace in vaccine rollout.

She is a French citizen with a long history of supporting the EU, though I'm sure she'll be lumped in with the German Finance Minister and Guy Verhofstadt as suspect for calling out the situation as not acceptable.

Results matter. Economically the summer recovery is now at risk or at least being pushed out.

Are you in the category 4 group 16 - 64 with underlying conditions. If its any consolation I was in to give a blood test at my GP on Monday and he told me category 4 will be started in about a fortnight to three weeks time, well hopefully anyway.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

I don't know why you bother with that lad.
Your better off just letting him splutter his nonsense.

People aren't going to take unregulated vaccines. Anyone calling for them to be purchased I would imagine also knows this, so I have to question their motives.

The Government would be well advised to stop pandering to these eejits.

Cat 4 was to get started this week with the first 10k

    This is an emergency situation.

It's not that much of an emergency that we are going to be injecting grandma with something that hasn't been approved by an EU regulator.

It's an obviously ridiculous idea, it's up there with Trump wondering why we didn't just inject some bleach.

My own parents got their 1st vax together and will get their 2nd one in a couple of weeks also together. They're in their late 80's, independent and fit and live in Dublin.

My partner's parents are late 70's, independent and fit and live in Cork. Her Dad has just gotten his jab and has the date for his 2nd however his wife hasn't received any news of when she'll be getting hers.

This seems to me very inefficient and silly not to have done them together.

It's only a matter of time before it's approved, hopefully the EMA won't let lethargy or politics interfere.
