They should go with a gradual phased reopening. Something like this makes sense:

5th April - Click and collect, recreational outdoor sports with two other households, team sports training, travel within your county.

May 1st - non-essential retail and personal grooming services, Intercounty travel.

Mid May - Sports matches. Crowds up to 500 at matches.

June 1st - Outdoor dining and beer gardens, Cinemas, theatres, gigs with limits on numbers.

Late June - indoor dining and pubs (table service only), crowds of up to 10000 or 25% capacity at matches and outdoor concerts.

    Mid July - Limited restrictions.

I would lose the run of myself with giddy delight if the above came to fruition

As someone finally finishing up with college mid May this would be amazing, but I'd guess this would be at least one month ahead of anything that the government will realize

Fairly big assumption on cases there though.

I was pretty sceptical up to the last few weeks, but everything that's come out about the vaccines recently, from our allocation to their effect on transmission and hospitalisations, makes me think this is well within the realm of realism.

It looks like gamble to reopen schools might work out as cases take significant leg down

If we hold firm we’ll probably be in good spot on 5 April with 100-200 daily cases, 3% positivity and large portion of vulnerable population inoculated

We are MONTHS from having no cases and no one in hospital

Fantastic numbers today, really moving in the right direction!

    Whats 7 day average now?

the 7 day incidence is 91.4 per 100,000
the 5-day moving average is 633

I'm very optimistic in the fact that we'll likely see everyone having their first shot by end of June, less optimistic in the government having a reopening which accurately reflects this progress. I get being cautious but would like some form of vaccination/cases quota or milestones attached to a plan

I'd say you can add at least two months to that schedule and I would consider that optimistic tbh

I really don't think it is imo. I think case numbers will start to tumble over March and April. Deaths and hospitalisations should drop at an even higher rate than this again as most vulnerable will be vaccinated. I expect case numbers to average less than 50 a day by end of April.

A separate issue is if the UK open as they have planned to and Northern Ireland do the same which you'd expect the will pubs in the North will be open in mid May. There will be bus loads travelling up for sessions across the border. Itll put huge pressure on the government to ease restrictions.

That's never going to happen, once everyone has their vaccine and hospital numbers are down to hopefully flu numbers then we are good. More than likely though be four times that of flu numbers which is my guess but I'm not a fortune teller.

Id very much accept that but it seems to risky for our lot esp NPHET who will want a very cautious approach

The thoughts of returning for a concert/event to the 3Arena and going to matches etc by Autumn 2021 would be great and really a morale boost

No chance. Hospitality will be open from late June/early July. The general public will not put up with a summer which is not at least as good as last year in terms of things being open. We'll have more than enough people vaccinated at that stage to be able to open up with low risk. The mood will change quickly on this as other countries in Europe move to open up.

Really and truly. Haircuts may have been viewed as non essential in the first few weeks of flattening the curve, but the more time goes on and the months drag on, the more essential they become.

Well there will always be a small number of cases and some in hospital, June is three months away, madness to think businesses will still be closed then.

Kind of avoided covid news and these threads over the last week or so.

My last post was my about my dad catching it as an inpatient in Tallaght. He's on day 9 now and thankfully still no symptoms. He did complain about 'not having a taste for food' but we later realised he meant he had lost his appetite rather than sense of taste.

He had been moved to a covid ward after his positive test, but due to no symptoms, they moved him to free up a bed... to a private nursing home. Now, I was baffled at first tbh, after the nursing home cluster**** in March/April, but the place is run very very well by the looks of things, in terms of infection control. They have areas varying areas where staff don't cross, etc..

He will have been part of the discharge numbers I'd guess, but he's getting much better care, he's in a private room, and is just happy to have a television as obviously he can't have visitors.

To keep the good new rolling, I picked up my dad from nursing home and he's home after 12 weeks, he's gonna tuck into a guinness and open his christmas and birthday presents this evening :)

Food and water are essential, haircuts are not essential.

This type of story should be front page news.

Would be a great stuff to read for those of a similar age

You think it would be optimistic to be in a beer garden by August? Optimistic?

Take out the mention of 500 at sports matches and I don't think his timeline is optimistic at all.

We had schools, construction, hairdressers, click&collect etc open during 6week oct/november lockdown. People were picking their christmas gifts at shopping centers... and we managed to reduce case numbers from 1200 to 200. I dont see any reasons why we cant open some sectors.

Edit: now i think hairdressers were closed, but point still stands.

Anything with crowds would be something I don't think will happen before end August

    It might change

Saw a bit on the Channel 4 News this evening about them still searching for someone with a Brazilian variant who hadn't filled in their locator form when they arrived into the country... and them having now narrowed down their search to 379 homes in London (somehow, apparently, I dunno). What a selfish arsehole.

Got an email from head office today asking me to confirm that I’d already booked a hotel for this year’s Christmas party (last year’s was cancelled obviously and the prospect of having one this year hadn’t even entered my mind considering the crap show we’ve just endured over the past 10 weeks or so).

I know there’s a lot of optimism about how the year is going to pan out and the world will hopefully look a lot more normal by then but is the prospect of 170 people in a function room rocking it out on the dance floor really on this year?

If so I better pull the finger out!

The amount of people talking about haircuts as if its food, shelter or air is a bit mental.

Can they be safely opened soon - probably. Hopefully.

Are they essential? Get ta ****. Pull the other one :pac:

I wouldn't complain for at least one week if they opened them tomorrow. It's all I want at this stage. Ye can keep your 5km, just give me a haircut.
