Schools will still be asking for masks and SD for most of next yr, once they become part of H&S , removing them will be an issue. be warned.

They can ask but I doubt people will follow. It cannot be enforced and I wouldnt forcing it either. I am happy they are wearing them now but I wouldnt be making them wear them. And 1st and 2nd class aren't required to/can't social distance so that's not an issue.

and if a "then" never appears? There will always be more variants, more put on the green jersey, more mini lockdowns at xmas etc... You are conditioning you children into a world where their face is hidden.

Thanks all. Massive can of worms opened here. He pleads he was unaware of the assignments section. He is going to be busy catching up. I have emailed his class teacher.

I hear you. It's so hard to keep on top of it. We were trying to keep eye on teams & our 1st yr & that he was attending & submitting assignments til two weeks ago heard his maths teacher giving out to half the class including him for hardly ever submitting work. Found out that she & others set their assignments on one note which I did not know about. I was furious with him. I did wonder why they all can't use the assignments section in teams & at what point would the teacher contact the parents r would I not hear until his end of term report or something. Most will have so much to catch up on.

I happened across a parent of one of last years class who is now in secondary over the weekend. Asked how they were getting on and was told that the school isn't doing anything, teachers aren't doing any work, etc, etc, etc. You get the gist of the conversation. I kindly reminded them of what they thought of me last year, how they also thought that I did nothing but that it turned out that their dearest child told them a pack of lies and that they had fallen hook, line and sinker for. Said maybe check with the school that they aren't being played for a fool again and that not everything their child utters is actually the truth. Said it had never crossed their mind. I just shake my head at the lack of actual thinking.

Our school sends a Google classroom summary to the parent every week. Flags any missed work early on so it doesn't become an issue.

And the student knows they won't get away with telling porkies if they are inclined.

My mate in Quebec was telling that covid cases in schools there are hitting the 50% percent mark, which is quite a contribution towards the cases.

It's a pity because we are doing so well in recent days

Not an issue with the vast, vast majority of this year's crew.

Now now don’t be silly both child to child transmission and child to adult transmission rate is quite low according to Dr. Nolan. All those countries experiencing outbreaks in schools are simply outliers.

First 24 hour period that there's been no ICU admissions since December.

Week on week decrease in cases, hospitalisations and ICU admissions.

It's clearly a seasonal virus, decreases being helped by the vaccination of healthcare frontline workers and the restrictions.

It is a good time for the schools to start opening so long as they are ready to close them quickly again on a school by school basis before things get out of hand.

Any rise in cases in next few weeks can be blamed on the weekend protests

Yes, that seasonal virus that's managed to last spring, summer, autumn, winter.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

Yes, that seasonal virus that's managed to last spring, summer, autumn, winter.

Global analysis has suggested its seasonal, like a lot of viruses it will have peaks where its more widespread.

And like plenty of respiratory viruses its peaking across autumn and winter.

We had a 90% decrease in cases from the peak in mid April to just a month later in mid May. Now some of that can be attributed to restrictions but that's a huge drop.

October to April is typical season for the likes of Flu, other coronaviruses and RSV, peaking December/January.

    Things will improve soon enough.

It’s a seasonal virus for all 4 seasons

Do they not have a tutor, LWA or YH you could go to, it's certainly not your job. I'm a YH and if an SNA told me that I'd be acting immediately m very unfair on you given your in the class all day.

They would be disciplined but it makes absolutely no difference the next day.

Article from the online Independent saying INTO is favouring mask wearing for primary school children, and NPHET is considering it.

Typical... consider an obvious safety measure a year after the pandemic arrives here, and only after we have partially reopened the schools and community transmission is still high. The comment section online under the article is an utter disgrace. It makes me embarrassed at the level of ignorance and anti science in this country.

People saying mask wearing is akin to child abuse, they're breathing in toxins that will cause brain damage, inhumane, refers to them as muzzles, they've "suffered enough," will cause secondary illnesses and longterm damage, and illogically arguing that children won't die as none have in this country (obviously, the transmitting especially asymptomatically is the point). I hope I don't have to spell out why the rest of that is complete and utter horse shíte.

So you are going to ignore all the increase in social activity over the last week and just blame it on the schools?

And if the numbers don't go up, what are you going to do to scare people more?

Cases in the schools are being reported.

Don;t know why schools aren;t reopening in Ireland, schools have been open for months across Europe and no issues ...
    They aren't a vector point.

    Teachers unions I guess..

Schools only opened yesterday, so how could cases be reported already?

Any case reported, where did it come from? Did it come from a family member? Did it spread among the kids in the class? Were those kids playing with the kids on the street at the weekend?

All this info needs to be known before pointing the finger at schools. My kids are in a school where cases were one of the highest in the that area. School had six cases in total, none came from within the school and all came from the home.

NPHET aren't known for taking risks, if anything they would shut the country down for another year

Most cases so far from ASd Units and SPecial schools which have been open

I don't think I have the patience for this thread today.

It should be down to each school really. I know our kids worked hard and so did the teachers during lockdown, so wouldn't expect any extra time.
Also believe teachers deserve their easter break
