I'm generally in favour of doing the lockdown properly, there's no point half-assing it - but I can't see why solo activities or those with people from your household need to be limited to 5km. A couple who live together driving 20km to walk in the hills or a person driving 100km to spend a day fishing on their own pose no risk of spreading anything.

Absolutely correct that they pose zero risk.

I think it's simply down to the fact that people take and piss and can't stick to simple instructions. Which is self-destructing, as if people have some leeway in certain areas they'd more likely to the the restrictions in the risky areas.

5km limit for shops, group activities, interactions with people.
25km limit solo activities where you don't interact with others - solo sports, shooting, hunting, golf, walking etc

I can't see how people could screw that up, but I'm sure there's a way.

A lad I know on FB shared a thing requesting golf courses being opened up. In fairness in his case, a links course, it must be fairly sickening to see walkers using it but members aren't allowed play.

Agree, except for the limits. They would be fine I'm sure for town/city dwellers but I live a good ten minute drive from my nearest shop, and that's a small old filling station. Perms all 20+, and range a good hour away.

The 5km etc limits always seemed like an urban solution for the whole country, which doesn't work. Not that that stops most of the laws passed sharing this mindset.

Like when the entire of Offaly was locked down for a meat factory there, but Westmeath wasn't at less than 7km from the factory in question, because it was over the border.
But folks in Edenderry on the other side of the county were locked down.

    Utter ridiculousness.

9 guards, 5 vehicles, all for a beauty parlor.

Last time a neighbour of mine got his farm broken into 1 guard turned up the next day, took a statement, and buggered off again. Never heard of it since, and this was a few years back now.

They must have solved all the other crimes at this stage, fair play to them.

    Two points:

    1. It's about the optics of a thing like this, the State can't been seen to be allowing things like that to go.

    2. It's no good if one person does this. What could the Gardaí do if every business in a town opened up?

Oh completely agree, come down hard enough to discourage any emulation.

I have heard that a few places have reopened, and some places have unveiled their "non-essential" items too, but I think this being the one that made the news had the biggest bullseye painted on it.

Yeah but your burglary won't start others going against what the Government want. Can't have people thinking they do as they NEED, hence the over reaction.

Yup...Unless you would actually connect it to the wind turbines or geothermal,or small scale hydroelectric plants as the relatively free input energy sources.

The Times of Malta article on the uptake of hunting in Germany, esp by women...Something they have in common with the Japanese women who are now taking over in hunting in Japan...maybe they have the patience to put up with Japans ultra strict gun and hunting laws of five years worth of training?
