Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

More of interest in Chihuahua; Veracruz is a bit more mundane.

    Veracruz

Has a Templar feel to it

    Chihuahua
I love both of them but I like the red of Chihuahua and the mountains in the background.

Chihuahua, the bastard offspring of a Croatian flag and a bunch of mad Mexicans.

    This.

The other one would give me a headache looking at it.

Tlaxcala - Not particularly in love with it but the other one looks like a warning on a where not to visit guide.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Agreed on Tlaxcala - like the red half; adds a bit of spice and interest in this competition.

I'm fascinated by the other one - what's in the bottom right quadrant? Is it a sheaf of corn growing through the hole in a man's palm?

    But Tlaxcala gets my vote

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,786 ✭✭✭KathleenGrant

Tlaxcala the Puebla flag looks like a comic strip.

I presume it’s supposed to signify farming as some kind of counterpoint to the depictions of gun violence and pollution.

I guess - but why does the hand look like an MC Escher illusion? Or is that me?

What's the circular bit in the middle the plant is growing through? Or how many fingers does the hand have?

I like Puebla's snakes but prefer Mario world style castle and flag on Tlaxcala's flag

Guerrero - crazy guy in a leopard suit. probably some sort of fetish club.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Fairly sure the Maya wore leopard skin to channel the strength of the animal. I think it's cool; better than the weird jester hat coming out of yer man's nose of the other one anyway.

    Guerrero for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Barna77

    Guerrero. The Jaguar Knight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,400 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Guerrero. I’m not sure what’s happening in the other one.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,786 ✭✭✭KathleenGrant

    Oaxaca

    Breaking chains....fight for freedom.

Haven't googled the flag symbolism yet till next round but I am guessing that's what the breaking chains are.

Guerrero. A man dressing up as a leopard? Sure why not?

Both a bit cartoonish but Tamaulipas best of the pair.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Tamaulipas. Because they even went to the trouble of adding in ripples in the water beside the boat in the bottom left. Plus the white yoke in the bottom right looks like the back end of a horribly distended cow.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

I've no idea what Sinaloa is. Tamaulipas is recognisable, even if they need art lessons - that fish is ****ing huge, and should be in the sea, not on it. But I'll vote Tamaulipas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,786 ✭✭✭KathleenGrant

Sinaloa. Joined by the daughter and we both agree. Like the shape and the colour.
    Also smoking deer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,400 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Two pretty mad flags but I’ll go for Sinaloa for the dinosaur having a shower and the deer smoking weed/vaping.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Barna77

    Sinaloa.
The hungry eagle. And don't mess with the cartels....

Less than 5 minutes, can we get a tie breaker?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

No tie-breaker came within the allotted time. Since everybody gave a reason, I'm gonna choose my favorite answer to split them up, which is:

Quarter finals going live in 30 minutes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Gonna stick with a 20 minute time limit for the quarter final and, again, reasons used will be taken on board in the event of a tie. The draw has been made and two colourful efforts have been put together in our opening bout. Hard one to call.

My personal favourite Guerrero (the Aztec warrior in jaguar attire) features in the second bout so I'll be keen to keep an eye on the voting there. It seems Chihuahua has had a bit of a cult following so far, will that be enough to take it into the Final 4?

We go live in just over 10 minutes.

    Jalisco

The hungry lions trying to get the kid hiding in the tree (I presume), a funky knight. And this tournament is probably the closest the Roscommon flag will ever get to winning something

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,336 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Tlaxcala. I like the blue and yellow of the other one, but the pair of skulls at the bottom just add an air of menace that so many others seem reluctant to want to convey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Barna77

    Tlaxcala
I like both so tough decision. Also the flag is full of references to Spain ;)

    Tlaxcala Tidy, uncluttered

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,786 ✭✭✭KathleenGrant

    Jalisco

It is composed from the sea and sand in blue and yellow
The state emblem is at the centre. The shield shows two lions rampant around a golden tree, on a blue field. It has a golden outline charged with seven red crosses. Above the shield is a closed helmet with blue and yellow mantling. The crest is a red flag with a golden Jerusalem cross.
