I remember trying to buy all butter puff pastry before and the only place I could see it was M&S.(I think). It's not very common.

Unfortunately it is not any more. Years ago most supermarkets used to have both all butter and margarine puff pastry. Now it's 99% non butter :(
    It's a real shame!

Really? Jus rol do all butter puff pastry, thought that would be available widely?

When I checked the packet on it it was made from oils and fats and no mention of butter but this was a few years ago.

    I think jus-rol have a specific all-butter one.

But tbh I've never had an issue with the oil based ones. I usually am using it for things like pies or salmon-en-croute type things and I don't think I'd notice a difference.

New avenue for contacting LIDL on social media with product queries etc

Lidl Ireland has become the first nationwide supermarket to launch a WhatsApp Customer Care messaging service to shoppers.
In operation since 9 February, Lidl is now positioning its WhatsApp channel to cater to customers looking for quick, snappy support for day-to-day queries who can expect a response in less than 30 minutes. The retailer’s regular customer channels, via phone and email, will remain in place for longer enquiries... shoppers can get in touch with the Live Chat and Messaging service on 00353 1421 2300.

I hope they continue to supply the hand soap refill bags, They started selling it as during the pandemic i think they had supply issues with the pump bottle assemblies which seems sorted now as the pump bottles are back in stock. Very handy being able to reuse my soap bottles mutliple times. Used to hate throwing them in the bin after 1 use. Much greener too

No sign of Fallon's decaf tea in my local Lidl the last 3 weeks or so, no shelf edge label, and the adjoining coffees have been spread out to fill the space... hopefully it will be back, they don't stock any other decaf tea and it's 3 or 4 times the price in the main supermarkets - a complete ripoff.

Anyone got stock in their local store, or know if it's coming back?

Italiamo is always one of our favourite specials. Would highly recommend the scamorza and the gnocchi.

Sunrise Cocktails - Mojito in a can. Classy. But delicious over ice.

What are the stock levels like for Italiamo? I have to make an effort to get to a Lidl. Went twice to buy Alpenfest fare, but they had less than half of the stuff in the leaflet and the manager told me the rest was stuck in a port somewhere
Don’t want to waste another trip.

  • Registered Users Posts: 139 ✭✭KnicksInSix

I went to my Lidl on Thursday evening and they had the full range of italiamo. I picked up a good bit of cheese, cherries, ice cream etc. In my experience it doesn't last very long though.

Good stock in aungier street. Went last week for alpenfest but didn't see much. Did today so maybe it did arrive late. Plenty of both specials available

The Go Ahead chocolate is a great addition to the regular stock but the best chocolate ever is the Alpenfest Dark Chocolate with Almond. 74% cocoa solids.

The alpenfest white chocolate with the almond cream is incredible.

    Are the Mixed beans gone?

I think it was their Freshona brand, haven’t seen any stocked in Cabra since mid-Jan?

'Chef Select' Beef Lasagne 400g are very nice. I put a little extra cheese and some herbs on top.

Bought the Italiamo Bell Pepper and Chilli soup.

Don't bother. It's awful. I was expecting like a sweet spicy soup. It's more like a tangy soup with big lumps of soggy chilli in it with almost no heat.

In the catalogue the French week food specials are due to be in store Thursday.

Just wondering have people noticed the food specials arriving in store early, say on the Wednesday afternoon?

Some of the French bits were in my Lidl in Glasnevin earlier, the dry goods.

Btw those italiamo olives are so-so, strange aftertaste. I always stock up on the cherries.

I've a car with a completely flat battery, would these get it charged enough to drive it around for an hour to get it fully charged? How do they work?

My friend has one and it often started my old banger so does the job.

Depends on how long the battery has been left like that, some say they can recover a sulphated battery / have a deep discharge mode (I think this one does) but imho once a battery gets like that it'll never be much use again

Some 'smart' chargers need a certain level of voltage to start charging at all (old fashioned ones didn't.) - some people have had success connecting a good battery in parallel across the charger just to get charging initiated and after a while the bad battery can be charged on its own.

Fooling yourself if you think a flat battery will be ok after charging it just enough to start and then driving around for an hour. If your battery needs charging, don't drive it, leave it on the charger until full. That could take days.

I'm sure the Way To Go chocolate has been mentioned already but the caramelised almond and sea salt flavour is just gorgeous! I can't do a shop in Lidl without throwing in a bar now.

+1 I’ve tried all the chocolate within this range and the caramelised almond and sea salt variation is definitely my favourite :)

Although they’re all nice tbh.... Lidl are really punching above their class when it comes to chocolate :P

Not in fridge. The section of store where they put the ambient weekly food specials. Last week would have been Italian stuff. This week French.
Probably some Easter stuff in that area too.

They're amazing! I bought six bags (and that was being conservative/ embarrassed). I've a French man in the house who went through bags of them last time they were in, I'd consider it a ringing endorsement :D

Asked Lidl on whatsapp, but they asked for barcode which's a bit silly, since I did say I didn't have any left.

However, there's now stock of a new brand of organic mixed beans by 'Bunalun' from Killarney at 0.89c each. I'll see how they compare to the last one's now at lunch.:)

Their butterbeans have been replaced with Bunalun Organic, too.
They are very tiny butterbeans - I'm not overly impressed - and I bought 24 cans of them:eek:

Seems standard practice with them (and Aldi). Product disappears for a while; returns as lower quality. Maybe a new brand name.

On the face of it, it's a superior product - organic.
Nothing really wrong with them, they're just smaller beans and I prefer bigger butterbeans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,573 ✭✭✭tscul32

Bunalun is a brand though, so they'll probably bring back a Lidl own version at some stage.

I think I know why Lidl are selling Bunalun Organic Butterbeans cheap.
About 1 in 3 of the ringpulls are defective:mad:

Yes, it's not that nice. We use the fresh pizza bases from Aldi - €2.79 for two on the chilled shelf. Very nice dough.

All of the Bellarom coffee beans are gone from my store. They are the ones in the brown bag. The Ethiopian ones were particularly good as well as being cheap. Are they gone in all stores?

The cimarossa wine range are reduced to 5e a bottle at the moment.
If you are feeling adventurous I recommend mixing the merlot and cab sav reds in a jug or decanter - as one is a little sweet and the other a bit robust. They blend well.

Have a sip of each before blending as a taste test.
