A combination of less condescension from MM and a lifting of the 5km would go a long, long way to keeping the majority of people on side.

Less condescension from the entire Government would go a long way to gaining them back a bit of respect.

Since the start of this pandemic they gave always had this attitude - instead of treating us like adults we`re spoken to like little children - that will be their downfall.

I think this could be problematic for those of us who enjoy doing things

Some people have shown they cant be trusted to behave like an adult so it had to be dumbed down tbf.

The difference is that in one place there is a plan, in the other a "we'll see later".
How is ireland going to reopen the economy earlier than scotland or england?

Thats the thing. Its not so much a 'plan' as political shenanigans. Behind the UK roadmap lays a while bunch of conditions - which if not met means they're going to be seeing little if any change in their restrictions
    First, that the vaccine deployment programme continues successfully;

    second, that evidence shows vaccines are sufficiently effective in reducing hospitalisations and deaths;

    third, that infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS;

and fourth, that our assessment of the risks is not fundamentally changed by new variants of Covid that cause concern.

Before taking each step we will review the data against these tests and because it takes at least four weeks for the data to reflect the impact of relaxations in restrictions

and we want to give the country a week’s notice before each change -

there will be at least five weeks between each step.

Piece on easing of restrictions plans in some EU countries - Ireland would have been a very brief paragraph

    https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-how-european-nations-are-trying-to-plot-route-out-of-lockdown-12226655?utm_source=pocket-newtab-global-en-GB
Interesting thing on the German one that I hadn't heard about though:
"But the European Commission has given Germany - along with Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Hungary and Sweden - 10 days to justify their border closures which justice commissioner Didier Reynders said had "gone too far"."

Some people - who should be dealt with by way of fines ,but not all of us. Hes just turning more and more of the populace against him.

Thats fair. We should be much stricter with fines and increase them dramatically for repeat offenders.

I'd ignore all of that to be honest. They've not changed it and with the population vaccinated there would be no reason to have said limits

    I hope you're right

I have a very upset partner already worrying about those type of restrictions being an ongoing thing

Even with all the population vaccinated I could see the government having measure like those in place

What, if any, impact will the anti-vaxx contingent have? They are as vocal as they are deluded. And their reach is far. I fear that these University of Facebook doctors will convince some of the more gullible in our population that vaccines are poisonous and could likely in instant death.

What percentage of vaccinated citizens will achieve herd immunity? Could a low uptake result in prolonged lockdown measures?

EU flexing its muscles over member border closures.
Brussels has put six EU member states on notice that their tight Covid border restrictions, including exit and entry bans, should be lifted over fears of a wider breakdown in the bloc’s free movement of people and goods.

Most other EU countries and the UK are, planning (with dates), or have already reopened foreign travel within a test criteria to certain destinations. Meanwhile we are still pushing ahead with mandatory quarantine and opposition parties calling for the list to be even further extended. It's beggars belief really. we seem intent on destroying our hospitable & welcoming image, our tourism sector, our economy and our vital links as an island to the rest of the world.

Not so. In the UK the date been given in May is for foreign travel being "possible" ...
would-be holidaymakers will be given clarity on making plans for the summer by April 12, when a review on how to restart travel safely will be published.

"The government will determine when international travel should resume, which will be no earlier than 17 May,"

    https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-health-coronavirus-britain-travel/uk-pm-says-foreign-travel-curbs-to-stay-until-at-least-mid-may-idUSKBN2AM22X

The other thing to remember is that the UK is prioritising first vaccinations only. The majority of people will not have had the second necessary vaccine injection by the time May rolls around. For foreign countries requiring a vaccination certificate - that's not going to be enough.

April 5th is 6 weeks away, thats a lot more time to go before even construction get going. They way they throw the date around you'd swear its only a week or two away.

It's time for businesses to take matters into their own hands and reopen.

No real change in retail next month even if they go to Level 4 + or minus

    Essential retail and
    businesses that are
    primarily outdoors
    only. All other retail
    and personal services
    closed.

So we will need to get to level 3 to have a haircut or non essential retail

May the very earliest for that no doubt

Yup, we'll be lucky to get to there by April the way they're going so hairdressers will be lucky to be May. In England of course, you can get a legal haircut in April most likely.

Yup, says 3-4 week period to assess so on April 5th we'll likely get outdoor sports and outdoor retail and some construction at best even if cases are well under control.

Yup only the same amount of time as the October lockdown again with schools open the only change in 14 weeks and 4 days since Christmas Eve

All part of Martin's plan with leaks already

“So I think we’ll be looking at all that sometime towards the end of the second quarter, if not before it.”

End of the second quarter is June

Lucky to see hairdressing in May imo

Yup, and I already know or hairdressers bringing clients into their own houses for haircuts so they're actually making it riskier for covid spread with those ridiculous decisions.

Tbh, I'll likely avail of it before long myself.

They will be telling us now that it is good for us and we will be 6 weeks closer to a vaccine.

It is ten weeks since the enhanced restrictions were announced on 22 December. Many people have followed these - at least January is behind us, Feb by next week. Clocks will go forward in 4 weeks. Brighter evenings and poor George Lee will be all over the place with improved case numbers.

Not about the game here, no - but he did mention that tiger was driving on the sauce again. It was an informal sort of presser, this one.

Are our young kids, junior, senior infants and first and second class the guinea pigs to see how spreadable the new variants are?

    He did.

Something about a good walk ruined and not a snowball's chance in hell before April even if within 5km of home.

No, they're the one's most in need of being in school, as online doesn't suit them. They'll also be more manageable on the mobility front.

Nahhh, a bit of a rough kip for my own tastes... hopefully though perhaps my future interactions regarding the pub might help see them loose their license, I’m objecting , also I believe the punters were slightly hostile towards attending Gardai all be it just posturing and verbals which won’t play well in court... fuçk em... a nice spar would be good. ;)

A boarded up building would be better than those kips.
