If the pandemic is a serious enough event to instate laws that restrict citizens to within a 5km of their homes—and even then under only very specific conditions—and shutter small businesses, schools and halt major areas of construction, then it is certainly serious enough to bring fearmongering propagandists to account during the analysis phase to come.

Your not called Joe McCarthy by any chance?

I honestly think this period will be studied a lot over coming years as another mass hysteria/moral panic. Yes, covid is a real thing but the reaction has been completely over the top, and honestly the way people have been brainwashed to think covid is lurking just waiting to infect those who don't follow THE RULES is like the satanic panic or something.

I saw a post recently where the poster suggested that the 'anti-lockdowners' of today will be looked upon favourably like the 'anti-iraqers' in Tony Blairs UK. No-one knows of course how all this pan out but if I was to bet, I'd agree with this. We've been led down a path which started out on a best intentions basis but has since suffered from terrible leadership and really really poor decision making.

    Checkpoints move location as well

There's a permanent checkpoint on the west side of Cork City on the N22

There was a mobile checkpoint near Ringaskiddy today I was stopped at if the lashing wind and rain

Guards soaked in fariness to them

Essential worker then allowed to move on

But if it's so important that people cannot go outside 5km unless essential then shouldn't they set up more permanent structures maybe, it just seems half arsed, people have lost there jobs, businesses and livelihood over this virus, but the gaurds can just look out the window and say "na too wet out,we'll stop covid tomorrow "
It's either important or it's not.

Those seeking to bypass restrictions are far less likely to venture out in the pouring rain I'd imagine. Policing is a risk based activity, and resources are prioritised accordingly.

What I cant understand though is I have yet go though a checkpoint, since March, with multiple trips per week of ca.20km each way on National and Regional routes, and intercountry travel every 2 weeks or so, on Motorway, National an regional roads. Am I just lucky?

none of that contradicts what I said.

please also note - your own document
When it is not necessary or practical to implement the process outlined here one should proceed on the basis that a positive test is evidence that a person is infectious

I know from experience of over 20 people I know who tested positive over Christmas . none of this document was actioned so far in what we saw.

Nearly all these positive results - accurate or not are then broadcast as new cases - this drives policy.
This drove post Christmas lockdown. That's the thing i don't approve of. That's my only point - the inaccuracy that drives policy.

That doc is great , plans are great, actually following them....well that's even better.

As i said in my post , I wrote about PCR tests being sh1te in Sept , your doc was updated in Dec. Months later.

You more than likely will just get turned around at the checkpoint, unless you are being a d*ck

Or just apply one of the many useful “allowed” 5km exemption excuses. Sorted.

Locking people up for going more than 5km from their home = good.

Bringing to account professionals who have admittedly attempted to increase anxiety and insecurity in a population already stressed from a year of heavy restriction, and further been permitted to propagate their stoking of anxiety and insecurity by state-funded media = bad.

    Gotcha.

    I guess we just disagree.

You know the Cycles for each of these? Yeah right.

Its clear guidance. The labs know what they are doing. AND in January only symptomatic people were being tested and we were getting thousands per day. Last summer we were testing thousands everyday and getting very low positives.

Murder is a serious crime - going that extra couple of km's from your house can kill multiple grannies.

You'd want to be a right clown to get turned around at a checkpoint - you can make up practically any old ****e and the Guard will wave you through.

Its funny - the other thread "How would you rate the government" is showing that 82% of people think they are useless and 18% think theyre doing an ok job.

Ive just emailed a screenshot of the poll to every TD on my Excel list - they usually take heed of polls.

Probably the only thing they will listen to.

Got a couple of Pms looking for the list so Ive attached it here.

The litmus test for the announcement today will be if it includes a no restrictions option as a final stage. The dates and metrics just won't be given so there's very little point in discussing these again. However, if there is no stage where restrictions are completely lifted then we are in for restrictions well into 2022

iv gone through a heap of checkpoints and once you are polite and have some sort of an explanation they will be waving you on before you even finish your sentence.....im sure the guards are representive of the population and theres alot would prefer to be doing more useful and productive duties but everyone answers to someone so the checkpoints have to be set up to be seen to be enforcing the crackpot 5k rule
