Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

At one point Tesco click and collect was so busy we were booking at midnight so we could get a slot as soon as it was released. (High risk household so it was necessary!) It’s a lot better now but nowhere close to pre-pandemic when we could book a slot the night before.

Anyone know if any of the main supermarkets have started selling njuda salami yet? Looked in Dunnes but no joy there

    Have seen it in SuperValu

Is there anywhere, allowing for current restrictions, that I would find cheesecloth? Missus keen to give paneer a go.. Located in Galway..

Making Meliz Cooks' Yufka Mantisi for dinner this evening. It's a bit involved but mother of god, it smells AMAZING.

I got some in Nolans in Clontarf last week. It wasn't labeled njuda salami but something similar. It was really spicy and more like a pate than a salami but it did the trick. :D

yeah I believe it is very spreadable, have never had it before but it definitely sounds like a good topping on a pizza

ah cheers, will give SV a try. Toonsbridge have it as well but I wont be in Dublin until next week so will get it from Supervalue if I can before the weekend

You might be stuck until things open up again... Ring Sheridans, they might be able to point you in the right direction.

    Some other options:

    * Is Home Store and More open? Maybe you can find suitable there.

    * Try two layers of handkerchiefs or a high thread count pillowcase. If you're looking for something with a very low threadcount, try a decent chemist and ask for the largest woven gauzes they have.

*if you're really, really, really stuck, a coffee filter (or 10!) might do the trick.

I can't remember what's the name of the haberdashery near the school almost opposite Sheridan's/St Nicholas Church kind-of-area, but if they're open they may have something.

In the past I remember using the slings from the A&E kits (you can get them loose in chemists, too), the only downside is that they are triangular so they can hold a very small amount, compared to square ones. But if you're up to sewing...

Muslin nappies/burp cloths work too. Baby stuff is essential so you should be able to get them.

I was just about to say this. You can often get a pack of muslin cloths in Aldi, and always during their baby events.

In a previous life i browsed around various shops in cork and came across muslin here.

Any fabric shop will sell muslin/cheesecloth, and lots of them are online nowadays.
I've used a linen shopping bag to strain jelly, it works very well. As Gloom said, an old cotton shirt works too. You'd need to scald it first.

    Right, help needed.
I bought a pack of frozen crab claws in the shell in Lidl for no specific reason except that I was so excited to see them.
I literally haven't a clue what to do with them, and I've searched online but nothing is jumping at me.
    Any ideas??

I'm assuming that the shell stays on the claw for that recipe. I have all the gear needed to shell them at the table but my OH wouldn't be into having to do that.
I'd also need to reduce the quantities of the ingredients, there's not that many claws in the pack.
Although, I do have raw prawns and mussels also, could maybe do a seafood dish.

Think there were posts earlier about Nduja sausage.
Just noticed that Lidl seem to have frozen pizzas in stock with that as a topping.

Yep this is what I do with my Tesco delivieries, throw in a few things to make up the minimum order when we book, then update the order the night before the delivery. It's the only way to do it.

I am so lucky with my local Supervalu; the only supermarket within reach for me. I was already on fortnightly deliveries pre-Covid so am an established customer. I email the list on alternate Tuesdays for Thursday deliveries.

I gather it is hectic for them now with so many older and high risk folk in the area. .And I have learned to manage without the few things they do not stock that I would have liked.. So lucky with them.

I know of other supervalus around the country that provide a vital service to islands!

Cape Clear relies heavily on Field's in skibbereen

    Where was this debate? ;)

There’s usually as many veggie items on my fry list (a grill just doesn’t sound as good) - eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and waffles or hash browns

They've been serving it on Pizza Express (Milano) pizzas in the restaurants for years and years, it's been around for a good while but it hasn't really been easily available to purchase as an ingredient in its own right.

Indeed yes. When I first realised ( thank you Mayo boards!) that the only delivery I was going to get was Supervalu. heartsink. as they were a shop I avoided as they were more expensive and limited than " the big 4"

Then I found their website...as in "supervalu shopping "

They have caught up wondrously. A good range at the low standard prices. And "luxury" ranges.. And a great delivery service policy.

This is very much not my wheelhouse - can anyone give me ideas for gluten-free, and preferably dairy-free, meals that could be made in bulk, ideally without having to buy loads of specialist ingredients?

Lentil curry (link to follow). Just make sure the spices are gluten free, for the rest you're good to go on all fronts, no need to add flour or anything with gluten to thicken it.

    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=116328651&postcount=1992

Keep in mind, though, that with people with a gluten intolerance or a "light" allergy you're ok, but if you're cooking for someone with a severe case of caeliac disease, even a slight cross contamination can cause an adverse reaction, so even cooking tools should be kept separate, let alone the fact that buying certified ingredients would be a must.

A lot of Knorr products like stock pots etc are gluten free, if you need something like that and are readily available.

Happy to share my recipe for 'hot stoner munchie chocolate cake'.
    Ingredients : cold chocolate cake
Method : put cold chocolate cake in microwave for 30 seconds.
    Serve with: ice-cream.
Accompaniments: 4 bowls of cornflakes, prawn toast, spare ribs, poppadoms with pickle tray, tandoori chicken, mixed tandoori starter, pizza with as much rubbish the delivery pizza place can put on it (with extra cheese), chocolate milk with whisky in it, whisky, Stella artois lager, orange juice, snickers bar, anything else in the fridge, freezer or cupboards.

Following a few chefs and restaurants on Twitter, god I do be salivating at some of the pictures. I've told them upstairs that I'm going to do a Hammington this weekend, a beef Wellington type, but with ham, onions and cheese.

Marinades, BBQ sauces, fried rice, dips.

    Lovely in soup.

    Asian king prawn lemongrass soup
    Serves 2
    Ingredients

    1 small red onion, chopped
    1 thumb ginger, matchsticked
    2 garlic cloves, crushed
    2 sticks lemongrass, lightly bashed
    1 star anise
1 chicken stock cube (that would make 500ml stock)
    Heaped teaspoon Gochujang
    8 king prawns
    Handful shredded cooked chicken
    100g noodles
    Juice of 1 lime
Tablespoon soy sauce (Tamari works well)
    Pinch of salt
    2 scallions, chopped
    Handful coriander
Garnish – Coriander, scallions, radish, black seseme seeds

    1. Fry onion, ginger, garlic, lemongrass and star anise in a splash of oil and water for 5 mins.

    2. Add 1 litre of water and stock cube

    3. Cook noodles in separate pot. Run under cold water to stop cooking. Add to serving bowl.

    4. Simmer for 20 mins, add gochujang, simmer for 20 mins more.

    5. Add prawns and increase heat for a few mins

    6. Add chicken and turn back to simmer

    7. Add soy, lime, salt, coriander and 1 scallion, increase heat for 2 mins.

    8. Remove star anise and lemongrass. Serve over noodles in bowl, top with garnishes.

Yeah its really good but 2 1/2 hours is too long even at that temp and the chicken was overdone.

Can cook it at 180c until the chicken is just cooked, same delishishness!

Thanks for all the suggestions, some food for thought there for sure. Have some leftover lemon grass in the freezer from making beef rendang a few weeks back so the Asian Prawn soup would be a good way to use that up. The slow roast gochujang chicken and potatoes looks delish too.
