i have an email already prepared for the principal in case that teacher is a no show and it is saucy enough

That gave me a good laugh! As if the principal has any control if the teacher is out or not! If the teacher is out sick the principal has to accept that- they have no authority to give out to the teacher for it!

Wonder what happens to 2nd/3rd multigrade classes. Surely the 3rd can also come in. Obviously pending official announcement.

    Understandable.

My kids are looking forward to go back. I have my own personal reasons for some serious reservations but I will do all I can to keep myself and the kids in my care safe.

My 4 year old as much as I would love him too will not be attending school until numbers are well down

I’ll be doing the same. Numbers too high. They’re happy out at home. No need to risk life or limb. It’s just a few weeks. All this dramatic talk about long term damage to kids on Matt Cooper this evening is crazy stuff. The kids will be fine. A bit of perspective here would go a long way.

In the last two weeks, nearly 2500 children have contracted the virus.
Now the plan is to put upwards of 25 of them in a cramped room without any masks.

Honest question, how can that be considered safe?
Nphet have reportedly claimed it is safe but I find it hard to understand how that is safe.

No one said don't listen to the experts. Thomas is not an expert in this area. We should listen to nphet, who are public health experts. It's I want a protein tagged in a rodent brain I'll call Thomas but when deciding whether to open schools it's Tony and the gang.

Most teachers are fine with going back to teach LC/LCA next week, nice small numbers to check how safe the schools are and a couple of weeks to check the numbers. This is quite reasonable. Every member of staff I've spoken to today feels the same, most people commenting on here have said the same who are current teachers.

yes and seesaw and all remote learning is a waste of time.
i am delighted the schools are opening and the teachers should be delighted to be getting back to their vocation.

My granddaughter uses seesaw ( 1st class ) its been wonderful for her . Her teacher was amazing with teaching videos , teaching from the classroom via seesaw, link to PE , links to reading on Oxford Owl and worksheets etc to print out
It certainly wasn’t a waste of time for her
I must say I found it easy to navigate and a huge asset to her in this difficult time for children , teachers and parents

This here just shows that you simply cannot generalise when giving out about online teaching.

Profession - any type of work that needs special training or a particular skill, often one that is respected because it involves a high level of education:
He left the teaching profession in 1965 to start his own business.
The report notes that 40 percent of lawyers entering the profession are women.
Teaching as a profession is very underpaid.
    He's a doctor by profession

It even lists teaching as a profession twice in the Cambridge dictionary and says we are very underpaid :D

So your opinion is that schools in Dublin shouldn’t have reopened at all since September because that is what Tomás Ryan’s plan entails. Meanwhile because you live in Leitrim you can carry on regardless with face to face education. No concern for the consequences of such a move?
    .

I didn't post that i agreed with tomas o'ryans plans for a zero covid attitude at all...at this moment in time with the new varients that are here now and the fact that cases rose considerably in the last few months and are still alot higher than september.. we should be very cautious about the re-opening of schools especially in such places as Dublin and that i do agree with his view on that.....

the mantra was nphet would declare when it was safe to open the schools, they were the scientists, please follow the science
but now that time is here and nphet have said its safe.
but oh no the teachers are now the true sages.

i ask you - how can you post such hypocritical tosh
