Imagine following the advice of the experts. How ridiculous a concept

Nice to see Norma finally listening to them.

This Article has J1, S1 and LC on March 1st.

"The very near term is the most clear: junior and senior infants look set to reopen on March 1st, alongside Leaving Cert students. The way forward for this has been cleared by advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet), and there is likely to be more detail on a staggered return to education during March."

    Different articles saying different things
    Emma O Kelly definitely said J and S I
And 1st and 2nd class plus Leaving cert

ey include the extension of provisions which allow for teachers and other school workers who are pregnant or in a high-risk health category to remain working from home for the time being.

All this helps clear the path for the reopening of schools from 1 March, beginning with Leaving Certificate students at second level, and with the four most junior years at primary level.

    Examiner says
It is widely expected that Cabinet will approve the proposal that Leaving Cert students, along with primary school pupils in junior and senior infants plus those in first and second class, will return to school on March 1.

The partial re-opening of schools will, however, mean that older primary school children and non-exam year pupils at second level will remain home until after Easter.

According to Government sources, the month of March, under the plan, will be focused on getting those small children in childcare back as well.
It is also clear that college students are unlikely in the main to be back on campus before September.

You’ve just contradicted yourself in your reply as Ryan did earlier. If schools were to reopen on a ‘county by county’ basis - Dublin schools would not have reopened at all this year, and other areas like in border counties. So a population of 1million plus in Dublin City alone would not have had any in person education whatsoever. It’s a disgraceful suggestion.
While schools were opened in the last level 5, if you’d read my post I mentioned there are posters here who kept campaigning incessantly for them to be closed during this time. Joining Facebook groups, scaremongering about cases. It’s wrong.

He did actually say it wasn't safe enough yet for dublin schools to open as of yet with numbers not coming down as fast as other counties (he mentioned cork/kerry). He also said we should be doing what we can to mitigate transmission in schools/that we hadn't seen enough of this. more advice on ventilation/more face mask wearing and that the dept of education could be doing much more ...He also said schools were only safe when the community around them are safe..
It wasn't a disgraceful suggestion at all....cases high ...schools not safe..I'm not in the slightest against schools re-opening quite the opposite...I live in co.leitrim where we have been lucky to have few cases of coronavirus..so I see no reason for schools to be closed here...but Dublin is a different situation...and remote education should be applied until atleast numbers are down further or more vaccinations are carried out...my opinion

Ohh sweet baby Jesus. I won't be back in front of my class until Easter so if that is correct. I had hoped worst case scenario that it would be the 22nd and get back for a week to get them all settled back into physical school and have them ready for the big push for the final two months.

    So what will we learn?

After Easter would be very disappointing for senior primary. I can't see it being that long.

There's no way they'll have a 6 week gap between phases going back, that's madness. I'd think it will be 2 weeks tops between.

The Easter holidays should be moved to now anyway, absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary to have 2 weeks holidays when trying to get schools back open after kids haven't set foot in them for 10 weeks.

Why don't they take them now?

I wonder do the people calling for the schools to be opened again realise that it will most likely mean more weeks/months of level 5 restrictions.

I think it's actually a great time to take them. There will be 2 weeks where they can evaluate how the opening of schools impacted on the figures.

Email Norma and ask her, us plebs have zero say in any of the standardised holidays.

My 4 year old as much as I would love him too will not be attending school until numbers are well down

To be honest I’d prefer if mine didn’t attend school until after Easter. It can only mean the numbers will be lower.

I wonder do the Dept realise for some schools bring back Jnr Snr 1st 2nd is the entire school?

There is obviously a lot of toing and froing at the cabinet meeting

You would hardly expect the department to know that!?

So your opinion is that schools in Dublin shouldn’t have reopened at all since September because that is what Tomás Ryan’s plan entails. Meanwhile because you live in Leitrim you can carry on regardless with face to face education. No concern for the consequences of such a move?

His Zero Covid group a poster referenced earlier had some of his expert colleagues on Matt Cooper this evening, suggesting vaccines are useless, this will never end and more hysterical ramblings with zero evidence.
Ryan has made a number of false claims on RTÉ previously and not been pulled up once. I don’t think he should be given the air time, credibility or quite frankly respect he’s been shown by some after his behaviour over the past 12 months. He’s a neuroscientist not an expert in the field.

the teachers here posted here they missed school and would return when nphet decided it was safe to return, we were told listen to the scientists well now that moment is here for some of the classes and guess what , it turns out now that nphet are now not to be listened to.
now we should listen to the teachers on when it is safe to return.
its laughable and shows up these posters for being the dishonest spoofers that they are
looks like my 2 are back monday which is great.
i have a feeling my juniors infants teacher might not show up - she strikes me as someone who does not really like teaching children, her remote schooling was non existent.
i have an email already prepared for the principal in case that teacher is a no show and it is saucy enough

What business it is of yours if the teacher isn't in?

Teachers will be guided by NPHET.
You are guided by your feelings.
