Northern Ireland are been reviewed on the 18th of March, they will not be far behind England

I've said it repeatedly on this thread, that the CMO and the health minister in the north have said that restrictions will be in place for the rest of the year and possibly into 2022. I hope they're wrong.

The UK roadmap to reopening has certain posters dwelling this forum in an apoplectic state. The sheer disgust that the likes of Boris Johnson could show up their beloved Irish government.

    Who are the apoplectic?

If it all goes to plan, the UK have played a blinder.

Did they have a stricter lock down than us ya?

No, the didn’t need it. They still had a pretty severe one.

i think it's more down to the fact that people often say uk even when they're just referring to just England but nitpickers gotta nitpick

In that case, the people that are saying UK, when they mean England, are completely wrong. It's not nitpicking.

    +1

I'd say it's one of the two key numbers.

I don't see it unless our vaccine supply increases dramatically.

Our problem isn't that we can't vaccinate people fast enough. It's that we just don't have enough vaccines.

    Cë?

That makes no sense. We can't vaccinate quick enough right now. The HSE are doing okay at the moment. The EU made a mess of the vaccine procurement. The real test for the HSE will be whenever the large volumes eventually start arriving. They are saying April but let's wait and see. Hopefully there'll be no further delays but unfortunately that's not guaranteed.

I understood that all vaccines currently arriving into the country were being administered within a maximum of 7 days, usually less.

    Is that not the case?

now now Bertie someone will be along shortly to tell you it's just England's plan and not the whole of britains plan. because that tiny nitpick makes a world of difference to some people

There's a massive difference between the UK, Great Britain (which excludes the north) and just England. It's not a tiny nitpick. It's just wrong.

It’s not that the eu made a mess of procurement, it’s that the uk did such a good job. If everywhere had taken the UK approach we would be in no better position than we are, perhaps even worse, as supply is still limited and the EU have actually secured a far more significant proportion of vaccine already distributed than average. Canada, Australia and many other developed countries are significantly behind the eu in supply

The Government have lost the support of the people at this stage, telling us we have to keep to 5km while every Tom Dick and Harry can arrive at the airport and there is no mandatory quarantine for "3 to 4 weeks" according to clueless McEntee and stuttering Mickey Martin.

As for the vaccine roll out, we are waiting for the EU to supply it and they have made a real mess of that.

Meanwhile the Brits are showing how it should be done.

What’s pathetic is how predictable all of this is. Some of us on this thread have been saying it for months.

Just after Christmas I predicted that we’d once again be among the last to reopen.

And here we are once again talking about how we might be able to hopefully let people outside their 5km in summer.

We are the only country in the world to have wet pubs closed for what will be well over a year by the time they reopen. Unless you want to count the 2 weeks outside Dublin last September.

We are the only country in Europe to have construction closed as Tony is worried people will lunch together....

It’s truly pathetic. I wish I could vote in a foreign government

Why would they cross the boarder?

It's the plan for England, not Northern Ireland

Of course Northern Ireland will follow England.

The DUP will follow no matter what - and Sinn Fein certainly won't be the ones seen to ruin the party.

They have nearly half a million vaccines administered in the North. Playing a blinder - and well done to them, really hope it all works out, it will give us all a bit of hope.

I know of Paul through a friend. A real good guy by all accounts, he has been treated like he doesn’t matter for the guts of a year.

Just a normal guy trying to make a wage for himself and his staff.

These small companies are the businesses we should be giving huge support to when they reopen. I know I will.

    Best of luck to him.

No, they won't be reopening until it's permitted by their local municipality.

Was that a deliberately stupid question or is it much funnier for you when the businesses/employees impacted have a familial connection to someone who understands why restrictions are necessary?

what municpal are they in? Madrid?

    it was a genuine question

At least they have something to aim towards. In Ireland we would get the usual antromorphisation of the virus with something like "...... I doubt there would be as much disparity in personal freedoms on one island anywhere in the world save North Korea/South Korea.

Between more lax pub opening, a less restrictive initial tier system until circa November, and a feeling that as much of a plonker Boris is he at least seems to have an interest in getting back to the pub the same as you do, I wonder is there a radical difference between UK and Ireland suicide numbers. Boris is a buffoon but jesus christ, unlike some of our mob he has seemed to actively want a way out of it, be it seizing the vaccines weeks before our clowns or giving clear road maps to get out of it.

He is talking about nightclubs and Euro 2021 this summer. Some of our lads are talking 2022. The pessimism and lack of ambition is night and day.

I actually give up following our lifting. I'll be going to Belfst in April when the shops re open, I'll be going every weekend in May when the pubs presumably re open.

I believe so. As I said, they are doing okay at the moment. The real test is when the vaccine supply starts to ramp up to some proper numbers.
