That's madness. Mixing with more people.

not if it is done over zoom

No one is using boards as evidence of anything, just sharing a discussing issues in the knowledge that nothing said here will influence anything. Where as the Alerting Parents “report” is somehow evidence of the chronic situation in schools, and should be used to inform decisions. You would be as accurate canvassing the opinions of this thread or the restrictions thread which reflect polar opposite positions. It’s a self selecting demographic not in anyway representative of the wider view, maybe the view expressed in that page accord with the majority, I highly doubt it based on personal experience, but either way it is not representative of the overall

I disagree. They posted the HSE letters with every post/case. This report will probably collate that info and I think it also seeks to get opinion-anyone can start a poll and do the same and many do on boards. And as said the survey was wide reaching and widely seen on Twitter, fb and email. it's not self selecting. So you're going nowhere there.

You can't do a credible oral exam over Zoom. If schools managed to do the LC in November, this is very straightforward.

    The above is from TUI.

They won’t be assessing them as the recording will be sent to the SEC for grading ......

Will they not be assessing them for the purposes of an AG ?

No those that are going for AG won’t be doing the oral as part of that.......

But if a student ops for AG and real exam do you not still have to do orals/practicals/projects?

Are teachers going to ignore them for the AG but include them for the real one

Seems strange esp in Euro languages where you you might have a fluent speaker but cant give grade based on an oral

Yes teachers are expected to ignore the real orals for AG
    The oral “plan” is ludicrous

That sounds like a right mess, so if some student does an amazing painting or builds something, you can send it to sec for real correction or ignore it if you give an AG

    madness

They don’t need to get the class teacher though? Locally hired....could be anyone?

Their oral ability is taken into account though, same as it would have been if they sat an exam. Their own teachers won’t be privy to how the oral exam went to include it in the prediction.

For schools in very rural locations there is no other local schools .
Also the idea of going to another school and mixing with another group of students s probably isn’t very appealing and certainly not in keeping with public health advice

Let’s see what the actual plan is first. I don’t think this one has been thought out yet ..........

The advice from NPHET not to return to school after Christmas did not come until January 5th. Before this there was no recommendation from NPHET not to reopen schools. The DES just proceeded with the original plan until told otherwise. The unions might believe they changed the direction, but they are deluded.

Your attempts to defend Norma Foley at all costs are getting more and more desperate everyday on here. It took a direct phone call from Tony Holohan to Michael Martin to knock Norma Foley out of her delusions that a full reopening of schools was possible in January. Foleys personal ego trip to bring back schools in January would have been catastrophic given the very fact that it has still not been deemed safe to bring back schools on any full capacity at all still. Most people recognise that Foley and the Department of Education have been extremely poor in their handling of education throughout this pandemic and for very good reason too.

Interesting, thought provoking post from voice for teachers:

    This needs to be highlighted.

On the 30th August 2020 42 new cases and 0 deaths were recorded.

On 20th February 2021 988 cases and 26 deaths were recorded.

The Government are well aware that children catch and spread variants at at rate of 13% higher than Adults as this has been scientifically proven in the UK with b117 the UK variant.

It has also been scientifically proven in the Netherlands that children are bringing this variant home from schools.Irish creches have gone from having 5% case rate to 12 % case rate since the variant hit our shores.

In the USA they were instructed to close schools if infections are at a rate of 50 to 100000, in Ireland we are opening when no where in Ireland is below an infection rate of 122 per 100000.

Is a cotton mask, hand washing and an open window going to prevent transmission of an airborne virus in a classroom?

Hi, just wondering where the info on the direct call from TH to MM is coming from?

Nope. Not really much mention of AEN in all the leaks.

The recommendation to government did not come until January 5th. This is reality. I couldn’t give a sh1t about Foley. One FF minister is usually as incompetent as the next. Reality on the other hand, I do care about

Looks like the majority of secondary students will be in school from 12th April to 25th of May ( Schools closing a week early to facilitate LC marking).

Why is additional teaching sourced for students.

The government don't care about numbers. Once they keep the "we have to be back regardless of the consequences crowd " happy.

How they can say that those numbers are safe without having brought in an additional safety measures is beyond me! The least they could do Is provide proper protective masks but I reckon that's an ask too far

Nothing ever is. Case numbers, hospital numbers and any increase in relation to schools reopening will be taken into account.
