    That makes sense!

Thanks for the reply. After reading some of peoples experiences on this thread, I'm half expecting it to end up in a sorting office in Tralee!

Just letting you know that your signature is way bigger than what's allowed.

Looks like it's back to the pre christmas delays

Some documents I posted from one office to another (from south to north dublin) on monday have yet to arrive, that's 4 days for a journey that would be half an hour by car.

There is also parcels we sent out last week that have yet to be delivered, some that went out on monday last were only delivered on tuesday this week.

You'd think we lived on a massive island

Ordered something to Cork from H&M which is sent from The Netherlands, arrived into Dublin on February 9th and has been stuck in the DUBLIN PARCEL HUB since. Status just says "Your Delivery has been sorted". No movement in 4 days.

In the meantime my other half ordered something on the same day as me to Kildare and it was delivered on the 10th February.

An post are a joke at this stage.

Waiting on two letters posted from Dublin and Meath last Thursday. Still no sign of anything, looks like ordinary post is taking nearly a week to get from one part of Ireland to another.

Anyone else have something stuck in a DSU? was sent something Monday but hasn't moved at all since, just the "We have your post" but nothing after. I wouldn't mind if it was moving around like...

Christmas card from friend in OZ just arrived. :D

Don't blame An Post though, all postal systems around the world seem to be severely crippled at the moment.

Guys, I was expecting my laptop tomorrow before I read your messages. A laptop was sent from the US on 10th Feb and now the recent status shows

    February 18, 2021, 10:20 am
    Departed
    DUBLIN, IRELAND
Your item departed a transfer airport in DUBLIN, IRELAND on February 18, 2021 at 10:20 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

Are things any better these days with deliveries or I can just forget about it for now?

That suggests it arrived in Dublin today. It may/may not get flagged for customs inspection. If not, vat is calculated, applied and parcel moves to delivery.

Only sporadic delays about. I'm experiencing about 90% next day delivery, but allowing for customs, possibly delivery for Monday.

That gave me some hope. Thank you!

The status hasn’t updated since and An Post doesn’t show anything for that tracking number.

Is there anywhere I can call and get an update?

Was it a big or small item? Any customs?

this perhaps sounds spurious but it appears to me that sending post from Galway to the east of the country takes a day longer than the other way around , my folks live in the east of the country in a few different locations , i always receive something the following day after its sent from the east where as if i post something in galway , it rarely ever reaches its destination the following day even the destination was in county galway itself

anyone else observed something similar ?

Anyone else having delays with parcels sent within Ireland?
Currently waiting over a week for a parcel from Mayo to Cork.
Have since received an overnight parcel from Dublin to Cork.
Either An Post is slow in parts of country or I've been scammed on adverts.ie!

There are huge delays, it's crazy.

    We actually don't.

Not for letters or small packages but for parcels An Post is the most expensive in Europe. You can send a 5kg parcel within Europe cheaper with UPS Express (next-day air freight) than An Post standard post.

The criticism came as figures show Ireland has some of the most expensive postal charges in the EU, with rates ranging from 33pc to 87pc above the European Union’s average.

They show that the €67 charge for a standard 5kg parcel and the €74 cost for a 5kg track and trace parcel were the highest tariffs of any national postal service.

I entered the USPS tracking number on An Post and I am seeing this

    Awaiting information on your post

We may not have received your delivery yet, but check back later as tracking is updated regularly throughout the day.

Good old Charlie Weston and the indo. Search for one or two items that suit your agenda and exaggerate it to hell.

What size was the parcel? This matters because ups uses volumetric weight. A fairly standard 60cm X 40cm X 40 cm box will come in at €84 with ups in Europe and €130+ for outside Europe.

    Try comparing a 2kg small package. 40cm X 25cm X 25cm. Ups come in at €63, an post are €14.50
Ah, but such comparison would not work out for Mr Weston

Stop believing sh1te written in rags is totally true.

But yes an post is expensive for European parcels and they should look at a road/sea service rather than air.

A 5kg 60x40x40 parcel with UPS (Standard) is €55. It's €67/74 with An Post uninsured/insured. DPD is €21-35 depending on the destination.

€14.50 is fairly reasonable but it's €21.50 for insurance and tracking. I don't know where you're getting those prices from. UPS is €23. DPD again is €21-35 depending on the destination. Considering how much faster the transit times are, paying extra for a DPD or UPS is definitely worth it IMO.

Saying An Post are the most expensive in Europe may have been an exaggeration, but they are definitely one of the most expensive postal services in Europe and for large items are the most expensive. They are generally good value domestically.

Prices are as published on an post website and on their price leaflet in all post offices.

They are not amongst the most expensive for letters, large letters and small parcels. They are mid table (and cheaper than royal mail) when you compare like with like.

But for large parcels they are not competitive and as I said, they should offer a sea/road service which would be a game changer for them to offer great value for parcels that can have a 4-7 day delivery time.

I'm waiting on a letter with important documents today. I'm at work and nobody at home so I wonder if they drop it in the mailbox without signature

Our postman signs for our stuff when it needs a signature. But thats only because I trust the postman, however with Covid I wasn't sure there were any signatures anymore?

Edit> https://www.anpost.com/Covid-19/Mails-Parcels-services so they are saying no but it depends on your postman and how well he knows you. Ours would sign and deliver and but a postman who doesn't know who will follow the rules.
