If a county gets overwhelmed with cases then move to Level 5 and extra police force to enforce the restrictions or even the army.
    .

    No.

    Never.

That way lies failed states and tin-pot dictatorships. It's time we started taking back civil liberties in this country, not demanding ever more totalitarianism and decimation of our lives in the name of battling a virus not dangerous to the majority.

Will any journalist bring up Mike Ryan’s Twitter quote in the next NPHET/government briefings?

Unlike here, most people know that a single sentence does not represent someone’s full view.

    https://mobile.twitter.com/FergalBowers/status/1362095275758788614
He called for prioritisation in relation to children returning to school, getting essential health services back on track and ensuring social and mental health services are available to people who are suffering.

    https://m.independent.ie/news/whos-mike-ryan-says-ireland-must-consider-sharing-vaccine-with-poorer-countries-40103188.html
“Once a large proportion of the vulnerable and frontline workers are vaccinated there will be calls to open back up quickly,” he said.

“That is going to have to be carefully managed because there is a lot of kinetic energy left in this virus. We need to keep up the effort of trying to reduce transmission.

Read the first sentence of the quote. It didn't take a year to discover this. I agree though...it'll have little effect on our approach.

Why don't you start one? What is it about people in this thread that have to wait for someone to do everything for them?
As far back as last summer I was saying that people should be lobbying their TDs (to be fair, a couple did). It took until last week for someone to gather up a handy list of TDs. Then it took the initiative of someone else to give an example of what they'd written so that it could be used. Personally, I don't think it's very effective to use a copy and paste email as it's one sure way of switching people off...but at least some people were actually doing something constructive...rather than complaining about Irish people rolling over and taking it.

Oh...and for those bitching about the pace of the vaccine roll out and how good the UK are doing, here's some reality.

Are we heading into the arse covering stage of the pandemic now?
Or have the WHO decided to become a bunch of unfeeling granny killers?

Or as clueless as the rest of us? Full of sh1t

Don't dare compare the two. I have no words.

Both mass gatherings, both involve multiple people coming together.

The virus doesn't care about a cause, always surprised me we never saw a spike after that BLM stuff. Was a complete slap in the face to all had been following and complying till then.

Went to RTE to get the numbers from yesterday, but i should have known better. They are well down, so obviously they can't put that on the front page.

That chart only shows multi dose stats.

The UK are miles ahead in terms of First doses administered compared to us.

I think some people are feeling lost and hopeless because there are many people in our society who aren't lucky enough to have that close family around them or they don't have a relationship or kids. I see people on social media in lockdown and they have family members or have their partner. People who have been feeling isolated since last year find that very hard to stomach. Maybe your close friends have moved away since last year and they aren't around anymore. There are so many reasons and different scenarios.

I just want to say to everyone think of those people who may be feeling lonely and might be feeling increasingly depressed. Many people might be discovering for the first time that there isn't much for them in Ireland anymore. A change of scenery and a change of perspective might help that person.

I just wouldn't rush to judge any individual without really understanding their personal circumstances. Life in Ireland will eventually improve. But a deeper sense of loneliness and isolation can continue for a long time afterwards.

Think of all the people in your own personal life that might be struggling. Some people wake up daily and paint a smile on their face and act normal around the few people they see.

It was on the front page last night, and is still in the top few articles on the covid page. It has been replaced on the front page by news of at least 1 million vaccines per month from April

That's exactly my point. They are way behind on getting people fully vaccinated.

First dose is said to stop serious illness. Preventing death is the name of the game.

The amount of vaccines they are administrating far exceeds ours, they should give us great insight into what a vaccinated population looks like. They are already seeing hospitalization rates of groups that received the vaccine drop.

Fact of the matter is, the north and mainland UK will be sitting in their restaurants having a drink well before this circus of a place even thinks about that.

And I’m talking upto a year later

Why aren’t hairdressers an essential service? Hygiene, personal care etc. Being told to cut your own doesn’t cut it. . I see France have hairdressers open from March 1

I've written to my 2 local TDs as well but so far I have not got a reply. I'm only expecting a wishy washy reply but at least I have expressed my feelings about the glacial speed of reopening the country. And don't remind me of the constant negatively and instantly changing goalposts. It's no wonder people are starting to get sick of this.

Thus is my first time to log onto boards in years but from talking to people, I am sensing a big change in attitudes and they are going to have less adherence to the rules if things don't change.

You would need proper separation of powers in Ireland. The Courts in Germany just work off the constitution.
The Courts in Ireland always seem to be looking for a Nod of approval from Government.

Of course, there is also the problem that there is actually no curfew here.

Yep - they might listen. Someone said we might get a few hundred and not thousands but that might be enough to open a few ears.

    TD email list attached again.

Very true, but thats because everything’s already closed, hence no need for one. The places with curfews have them because things are open during the day.
