No real change on 18z so nowcast from now on in.

Thankfully my temp is dropping away now down to 2.5C and more importantly my dew point remains negative which will rise on the onset of the precip but thanks to the English, there should be enough draw of cold dry air imported to keep the cold flow coming in.

Not expecting massive amounts here and I reckon it will be tough for it to settle if the intensity is not there

    Edit: 2.4C now

I'm eyeing the rain shadow from Wicklow.

Hope it doesn't extend here from Kildare. We look just on the right side of that.

It's the difference between trace amounts and 5 cms.

I’ll second that. Took me 3 hours to get to Belmullet from south Mayo this morning. The snow was about a foot high each side of the road between Crossmolina and Bellacorick...absolute pain driving in those dangerous conditions.

It took me 90 mins to complete 11 mile journey last night. I loved it but happy to share it around now.

A steady 3.9 degrees here in D9. Refusing to budge the last two hours.

No wonder the airport is going for sleet! :P

EDIT: The airport is down to 2c...maybe I am getting false readings!

Howth is 2.3/-1.8 with a fresh to strong southeast wind....definitely snow territory at the moment.

From a purely Dublin perspective, what areas of Dublin will likely see the most snow tomorrow morning? Southeast Dublin (pretty much Dun Laoghaire to Bray) looks like the sweet spot on the models. Still, could all change on the day obvs.

    Are car temperature probes accurate?

Meath coast here and reading 4.5degrees?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 332 ✭✭Paso Fino

Updated METAR for Dublin, temperature 2 degrees, dew point minus 3 degrees.

Currently 2.7c with a dewpoint near -6c here near Arklow
SE wind off the sea gusting 50kmh
    Brrrr!

I wonder if the higher than expected amount of snow that Mayo received is an omen for something else that hasn`t happened in a long long time. Could Sam finally be making his way there this year?

Not a chance in the foreseeable future, with the modern game, we're at the limit of our abilities for the population.
Snow events are quite common in Jan / Feb above 150 m, last night was a rare event for the west of the county lowland areas.

Nearer the coast the better. There'll be shadow effects more pronounced off the Wicklow mountains the further west you are.

You're right, I think south east Dublin is the best place to be really.

    Yes we are, just.
Thankfully my temp is still on the decrease
    2.2C
    Dp-1.9C

Moisture will be there and cold air advection so we shall get the snow, just how much tbh?

A few paltry flakes drifting in the wind here in north coastal Dublin.

Wind picking up in Carrick-on-Shannon is 2 degrees and it feels like - 1c

Sleet/almost snow just NW of Galway city has to augur well for further East and North.

Any snowmen that get made tomorrow will have very short lives god rest their souls. They will be the innocent victims of this poor cold spell.

I think anyone who wants to enjoy what snow falls needs to pull an all nighter, most of it will be washed away by early to mid morning away from Ulster and the far North of Leinster. The snow will probably turn to rain too before the system finally clears.

If we fall asleep tonight does it mean we are weak failures?

Airmass getting colder at Howth 1.9/-2.0

It's supposed to hover around 3c here tomorrow afternoon so I can't see the snow melting rapidly unless it rains.

Despite all the pessimistic posts about snow not lasting long what's the point etc I for one love to see snow falling, it's a rarity in itself and if it goes quick so be it. Live in the moment, hopefully my nieces and nephews will be seeing proper snow for the first time.

No sign of any Precip here yet, not expecting snow, sleet at best.

Maybe for Athenry but not west of the Corrib. Sleet here.

Pretty much all the snow I can remember before Feb 2009 snow was the classic 'rain preceded by sleet and snow'.

If there is any covering of snow by tomorrow morning it is a success to me.
