We had bad (or good) snow here two weeks ago. I bought my children snow suits at Christmas, best buy ever.

So glad I got that feeling in me Waters back in January after Bray got the 2 inches of Ninja Snow. ie. Felt that this Winter was going to deliver again.

Had most of what we needed in terms of gear but the Snowgrips for the boots/shoes I bought in 2018 where crap (Kept falling off boots and the studs kept falling out. The things were a worse trip/slip hazzard than the snow/ice itself!! :D )

So I ordered some YakTrax Pro Snowgrips from some Dublin Outdoors/Hiking place back in January.

New Snow Socks for the delivery Van should arrive today or tomorrow morning. Then I'm all set except for upping the Milk and Bread Orders for Monday and doing my own 10 day Grocery Shop this weekend. :D:D

...Oh and calling down to the fuel merchant and picking up some more logs and smokeless coal (Central Heating is working fine but theres nothing like a real log fire when there is snow outside. Chimney was cleaned for Christmas anyway)

    Bring it On!!!

    :D:D

Tell them its like how Snow and Rain affect the Sky Satellite Signal except its the WIFI this time. If they counter with, "So its snowing inside your house??", well they've got ye by the goolies. However most people are as thick as a box of spanners when it comes to tech so you'll likely get away with it....though the office Network Admin will give you a sly wink next time he see's you. :D:D

Seems to be a south easterly flow on both the GFS and ECM. Don't think that will suit me at all here in Wexford. I'd say there will be a Pembrokeshire shadow in operation but Waterford/Cork will do very well out of streamers if this is the case

Wind profile is different to the 850 profile slightly
Wexford has on the 06zgfs ne on Tuesday
    Se on wenesday
Get onto the 2m wind chart
Great for South wex in my opinion

Maybe its just pure coincidence but in the Easterlies I remember (87, 91 and 2018) down here in Cork we got snow on day 1 of the easterly. In 87 and 91 that was it though. In 2018 it kept going mostly. But I wonder do Easterlies arriving in Ireland typically start out with SE winds and gradually migrate to E and NE as the days go by? Not much of a sample size I know...

Of course there were other easterlies I ignore as we got no snow down here at all! But i think those 3 are the big ones.

Lastly we got the same pattern in the late Dec 2010 spell too (loads of snow on 17 Dec being day 1 but nothing thereafter). But that came to us off the Atlantic (beefy showers from a NW wind) so I'm not including this. But interesting all the same that on the 4 big events I can recall (87, 91, 10 and 18) we got snow here in Cork on day 1. Actually its great when that happens as it calms the nerves from the off!

But is it possible? I just want to know is it possible! Possibly?

Models won't get a handle of sea-effect snow until around 48 hours before.

We need a E, NE or NNE or SSE for Cork! and to have 850hPa temperatures of -8 or lower, -10 is preferred for those closer to the coast.

Wind speed is crucial also as the stronger the wind the showers will likely give biggest deposits further inland due to friction and orographic effects.

Those closest to the coast tend to benefit from a more moderate air-flow.

Ah yes I see now, big difference on the 2m chart. Thanks for that crisis averted :pac:

Liz Walsh of Met Eireann not sounding too inspired about next weeks prospects on The Journal. Think she might be down playing it a bit

Met Éireann just confirming Ireland shouldn’t be too impacted by snow. The UK will take the brunt of it

Greetings. Can someone advise the times that the various models are published please? I've no idea how to interpret them but would be sure to check in here to hear the latest from those that do. Latest posts all suggest things looking good so I'm refreshing this page every 30 seconds or so. Thanks.

Possibly but this event is upgrading bit by bit with time for this country both for the first half of next week but also the second half when the risk of significant snowfall is increasing.

They have a frontal event on Sunday we don't have. Truth is no one knows about snow from these things til you see beefy splodges on the radar moving toward your location. Moreover, there is a real chance we get our own frontal event later next week. Great times...(well apart from the whole global pandemic and associated death, illness and house arrest)

That just looks like by Tuesday, the Irish sea is turned into a huge snow blower targeting the entire East coast

Yes but there's a fatal flaw in that
They are referring to the entire country
2 million people might be experiencing different on the east and south coasts...
Maybe 10% of Ireland but half the population

The UK will nearly always take the brunt of the snow from an easterly. There could be a huge dumping of snow in the south-east and London areas on Sunday and into Monday from a frontal system. Scotland has had snow for over a month now and it's still going.

We will have showers/streamers and you will be dissapointed if your expecting a Storm Emma style depth of snow. I would be expecting more like 5 to 15cm with this depending on snow distribution and intensity. If the Irish sea really get's going (remains to be seen) expect more than this in favored locations away from the shadows.

If the models work in our favour during the second half of next week we may get frontal snow too and that could add much more, but all that remains to be seen for now.

Probably technically true for 80% of the land area of Ireland. However the other 20% of the land area on the east coast contains nearly 50% of the Population. Even if they take into account that only a small swathe of the East Coast gets Snow Streamers from the forecasted Wind directions, then its still 1.5 million people affected in Dublin and parts of its adjoining counties.

In other words, they are choosing not to warn 1.5 million people in 4 counties so as not to have 3 million people in the other 22 counties moaning, "Wheres my snow??" or "Why TF did you make me bring my lambs in" ;);)

I can guarantee come Friday or early Saturday morning Met Éireann will have a early advisory issued. I think it would be dangerous for anyone to downplay anything with such strong model outputs especially at this stage. The fine details will not be knowing really until later Saturday for the early days next week and for mid week it will probably be Sunday before we have any concrete evidence what will happen and how much longer this colder spell will last. My own personal view is near the end of next week we will see a more widespread event with snow. Leinster, Northern parts of Ulster and East Munster should see snow streamers effecting them as early as Sunday night to Wednesday with some mixing of sleet around coastal areas to start but more to snowfall from Monday afternoon. With the strength of the wind and in any beefy showers they should work there way further inland possible as far as eastern Connacht.
