    I believe it is.

A winner plays b runner up.
B winner plays a runner up.
C winner plays d runner up.
D winner plays c runner up.

Absolute horror draw for us. Even if we win the very tough group we're in we have to play the hosts in the quarters, second place and we play New Zealand. Couldn't have been much worse in terms of trying to make the semis.

so if Ireland make it the 1/4's it's France or New Zealand....

    ah well.

The dream was Wales in the group and a draw for Japan in the 1/4's

    not to be

A lot can change in three years but we're far better off going into it with no expectations.

dream pool for Fiji. they won’t fear either of those teams.

    Would love to see it.

~3 years is a long time in sport, I wouldn't be counting chickens for any team just yet.

Based on that Draw England could make the Semi Finals without having to play their first choice 15. Very cushy draw for them.

Suspect we'll be out in the pool.

What are Asia/Pac1 and Europe 2 likely to be in real life ?

im same wouldnt be surprised if scots turned us over in pool game. i think this irish team is going in a very worrying direction under farrell. Like wtf are we playing murray and sexton for in dead rubber games? trying to get another world cup out of sexton is madness , get a new pairing at 9 and 10 for this spring 6 nations and by 2023 they will have 3 camagins under them. use this 6 nations to blood new players , does it really matter if we lose a few games, like think of long term rebuilding , time to sacrafice a 6 nations or two

Rugby Europe has been notified by the Belgium Union that the Belgium National Authorities are not permitting the Belgium team to travel to Romania in light of the current COVID situation, even though there is currently no restrictions in Romania concerning Rugby Europe Championship games.
The Romania vs Belgium game was due to take place on Sunday February 7th 2021 as part of the last round of Rugby Europe Championship 2020.

Knock on effect on world cup qualification. Wonder how this will play out

we never tried it?! we never experimented with a 6 nations campaign , why not now? any chance paddy jackson will get a call up , if we kept him in game time we might have very good replacement now for sexton

Paddy Jackson is never going to play for Ireland again. We all know why. Not much point in bringing his name into contention regardless of what he does at club level.

The problem is money. The IRFU budget depends on how we finish in the 6 Nations each year. From what I've heard, the IRFU budget for us to finish in third place or better and that is what is needed for rugby in Ireland to stay afloat that year. Also, they're particularly broke at the moment given the current pandemic so they'll want to finish higher than third this year if at all possible.

Agree but maybe thats to Ireland advantage. Going as favs etc to get to semi finals before tournments hasnt worked, maybe going as no hopers will work.....

Say we get France in 1/4. As they be at home they should have pressure of fans expectations etc and perhaps they do a France and blow up.

In late 2023?? If were having that discussion then we've done something Very wrong in the interim.

please God your right, its so hard to even imagine crowds at matches now. will we see any back in 2021 at all?

We will likely by end of 2021/start of 21-22 season possibly not full capacity but will see fans inside grounds.

All it takes is for 1 or 2 new mutations to appear that are vaccine resistant.
Then you could be looking at empty stadia for another 18 months minimum

A new set of principles have been agreed for #RWC2023
A minimum of five rest days for all matches
Permitted squad sizes increased from 31 to 33 players

To accommodate additional rest days, the pool phase will be extended by one week.

The bigger squad size is interesting. Means a prop that plays both sides isn't as valuable.

Yeah probably could see an extra prop in a lot of squads.

And we will know match schedule on Friday as well.

Bit arrogant of them to have the draw in French considering the amounts of counties involved.
