I took a gander at some media outlets this morning

One Front Page headline 3,000 Covid Deaths (what were they predicting a year ago? How many died because of covid?)

Irish Examiner - The next Pandemic is just around the corner (the article went on to say how it couldn't be ruled out)

The Journal - Should joggers wear masks

That was within a about 15 mins of each other that the above stood out.

I can only imagine the state of people who are reading that kind of content all day every day, it is not healthy...I am really concerned about the impact of all this media negativity, the virus isn't doing anywhere near the damage the hysteria is!!!!

Have friends in Canada their restaurants and gyms are open and their province only had one case in the last two weeks I think. It’s honestly depressing when comparing it to Ireland.

Broadcasting now from an actual Covid ward.

    Keeping the moral up

Good result tonight Lundstram. Presuming you are a Sheff Utd fan

    Nope, United fan, ironically.

Turned on the news just after to hear Leo saying we’re going into level 4 with modifications after level 5 ends. Basically open non essential retail. Great, country on its knees but at least Penney’s will be open.

I’m a Leo fan but he needs to shut his fcuking mouth now.

    Another day of misery.

very little difference to L 5 that I can see assuming the +1 is restriction of movement. Hospitality or non essential retail won't be open anytime soon.
Schools and Leaving Cert will be the focus over the next couple of weeks

Most of the hysteria is in this thread. I mostly don't look at Irish Media, the bare minimum. No Irish TV, no radio, not much online news.

Most of the stuff you read in the media (and on these forums) is half truths at best. People need to fact check stuff, and not in the tabloids.

So in other words nothings really changing. Just giving us peasants a false glimmer of hope.

My daughter said earlier when it was on why doesn’t he just call it 5.

The amount of people that spend their time arguing with posters on here every day that fire out that little nugget is fascinating.

If you don’t watch the news, why argue with those who do?

No nursing recruitment for 4 years during the last crash.

The austerity coming up the garden path will beat that record rather easily

I didn't bring up the news and media. It was people here on numerous occasions, complaining how hysterical and doom laden and how bad and depressed it makes them feel.

Why watch it. Turn it off.

    Don't shoot the messenger.

US and Canada just have curfews

Only some parts. I live in BC, life really hasn't changed all that much, we had an initial lockdown last April, since then nothing really, just a lot of people wearing masks and so on.

All things considered, living in BC during this has been a blessing. I still miss my family and friends back in Ireland a lot, an awful lot these days also.

    Clever girl

Still they'll claim we're out of level 5 and easing restrictions

Going to be painfully painfully slow again though

I'm betting easing restrictions will be every month this time not 4 weeks

Seems level 4 + 1 is no outdoor dining

Under the Living with Covid plan, Level 4 would allow gatherings of up to 15 people outdoors and outdoor dining limited to a maximum of 15 patrons.

They're not going to allow that for a few months after March

I expect it to follow the same pattern as last year.

Little will change until early July

Check out the trajectory in the Dakotas too. Similar results with no lockdowns. One of them introduced a mask mandate and capacity limits in some places, the other didnt. Still the same results. Facts like this are inconvenient for lockdown proponents.

I've actually posted about Dakota before, it's funny but those who support strict lockdown as the answer just seem to ignore stuff like this.. as you say facts are inconvenient!

Its either Stockholm Syndrome or just watching how low they'll go to keep the fear mongering going.

Austerity against a background of continued asset inflation.

€375,000 for a house in East Wall the other day

Housing supply will be even more constricted in the face of construction shutdowns.

I think they'll come under pressure a bit earlier this year

Still they won't open hospitality until after the June Bank Holiday

Couldn't have things open before a bank holiday

My guess is no easing of restrictions until after Easter Monday

Then conveniently a month until after the May Bank Holiday

Then another month until after the June Bank Holiday

I believe Ireland is the only country in Europe to actually shut construction.

The only hope of common sense is for the TROIKA to knock on the door again.

They will eventually, but it’s better it happens now

Like I said last night, on 5th of March it will be level 5 in everything but name perhaps.

They should just come out and say lockdown until mid summer at least.

For me, restaurants at least need to be open before I would even consider it not a lockdown.

They've basically ruled it out until Summer and guaranteed summer doesn't mean May

    https://twitter.com/SeanDefoe/status/1354112169558888448

June or July earliest for hospitality yet again

The pictures of the Europeans enjoying normality in May will give us hope and lift our spirits for the last few months of lockdown
