Panettone is all I've left, will be french toasting it this weekend

All that's left is the wretched, rotten, far-too-tempting home-made biscuits. RESIST!!

Also two packets of German Christmas biscuits, sent over by family; but they aren't as nice as the other kind and resisting them is not much of a challenge.

Opened the last tub of celebrations yesterday. Haven't told the kids yet. It was great to get first choice.

We cleared our some of the crisps and a half bottle of gin last night whilst on a zoom call to my inlaws... not a lot of goodies left now.

Think I've 2 tubs of quality street and a box of dairy box left- supplies dwindling here too!

Edit- I also have a full unopened tin of chocolate Kimberley, as I got a tin from work after buying one myself, but they have now been redesignated for Easter. :)

at this stage I need a thread called "are you still buying Christmas food?" lol...

re-gifted the chocs/crisps we didn't want but still buying Ardsallagh Cranberry Goats cheese and Sheirdans brown bread crackers.. this is usually a Christmas snack for me but with the times we are in, I am indulging in it a bit longer ekk... era its not unhealthy - but just shows - the pleasures of Christmas are being enjoyed a lot longer than usual..

Still eating my way through the end of the quality street. Not even my favourites that are in it and yet....

I had two fredo caramels, two dairymilk and a fist full of eclair sweets. I have binned the remainder of the Christmas pudding so that is at least a start.

Gave one of the box of left over chocolates to a neighbors who fell down the stair. Obviously not a nice reason (she is fine) however one less box of temptation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,939 ✭✭✭sporina

Lindt bunnies in Tesco today.. man I love em but gee its too early for that - twill be an even longer spring if I start tucking into the Easter fare in Jan...

So feck it, I am on the hunt for a box of Roses - stretch out the xmas vibe.. so if anyone spots any in a supermarket will you let me know please? None to be had that I have seen.. TIA

The cartons of Roses are currently on offer in Dunnes, half the weight of the Christmas tins, and the same price, but it might be your best bet this time of year.

Thats actually something we noticed last week. Was picking up a box of chocolates as a birthday present and the difference in price from before Christmas is remarkable. The prices are considerably higher than they were only 3 or 4 weeks ago.

I know, and I really doubt anyone makes a loss on the tins before Christmas, so it shows the profit being made on the smaller boxes for the other 10 months of the year.

thanks pigtail yeah I saw those in Dunnes but would feel weird to pay even that, considering the tins of Roses wer only €3.99 between Nov-Dec.. lol.. but i want a tin - there is something nice about having it there in the living room - and just dipping in and out while watching TV.. I shudda bought them.. (the others I got as a pressie)..
Oh - sad times (covid times)

I fecked up with 2 boxes of mince pies. Went out of date in the press so I was glad I had put the others in freezer.

The last of the actual grub is finally gone, gone, gone.

But we were given nice bottles of gin for Christmas pressies -- the family know what we like, lol; my husband makes the BEST gin-and-tonic. And there's always tonic in the fridge and a lemon in the fruit-bowl.

So we have one on a Sunday and the nice bottles of Christmas gin will last us quite a long time.

Still. Even the packaging is cheaper on the pouches I'd wager.

Large pouch of quality street in Dunnes for €2.50 so I agree with DvB the markup is silly.

Had a tub of Roses last night. I messed up dinner, burgers and chips turned into just burgers so promised extra movie treats. Feel we still have enough to do that many more times.

Gave a box mince pies and a Christmas pud to my folks. They were going out of date in a couple of weeks and we are still trying to be healthy and didn't want them to go to waste.

  • Registered Users Posts: 112 ✭✭theblackstuff

still have 3 boxes of mince pies left, best before the week before Easter so might stretch one to Easter with a bit of custard.
also found a box of chocolates today, will try to finish them before Wednesday, don't worry its a small box!!!

I have 3 boxes of them myself, but mine are in the freezer. Did it last year and when defrosted during the April/May lockdown last year were a delicious treat when heated up & served with some vanilla ice cream!!

Will be breaking open some of them around Paddys day I suspect as I'm taking a few days off & may well treat myself!

In a gesture of irony we defrosted a box of mince pies & had them with vanilla ice cream over the weekend for dessert after a BBQ... delish!! I still say they should be available all year round 😁

We gave our last box of Christmas biscuits to our neighbor for keeping an eye on the house and watering hanging baskets while we were away.

    Christmas cupboard is empty now.

My Mams Christmas pudding. Only finished pudding from 2019 last Christmas & usually have a piece of pudding in September and finish it off at Christmas. Always tastes better when a year old. She’ll be starting her puddings in the next couple of weeks. Love the smell in the house when she’s boiling them.

We're down to our last 4 mince pies now, they've all been defrosted so we'll need to eat them all in the next day or 2... 😯

    Challenge accepted!!😛

Two Christmas puddings still upstairs 🎅 🎅 The only problem is that the OH doesn't eat it so if I open them,

Im going to have to finish it myself and the waist band is already stretched😂

    Trivial problem I know😀
