Yes it's presented like a complete shed, they didn't even bother straighten up the drivers mat. 1 line description on an ad for a car that would have been €80k plus new.

I am guessing it was serviced somewhere in 2005. Potential for export or seasonal ownership in this country when we get a bit of sun :D

I’ve a 2010 face lift gs450h with fsh, the nicer wheels, mark levinson sound, Bluetooth and rear sun blind @ around 172km (I imported it so it’s miles). Tax is 750. I was getting trade in offers for around 5k which I thought was a bit low. To be fair it didn’t have an nct so I got that yesterday to make it a bit more solid. Any idea what I would be realistically looking at privately or as a trade?

Obviously both would be different but it’s hard to know where I stand as there is no face lifts available here.

Edit: sorry if going off topic but just thought since I was offered around 5k it would fit here.

There was a facelift 2009 model on DoneDeal that was asking €9500. It was sitting there a while though so it was possibly overpriced. When there was a few online, around September or August last year 2008 models with the cheaper tax were asking a bit above the €5k mark. Yours being facelift and lower tax could be around the €10k mark I'd guess. You would get more selling it privately yourself as opposed to trading in with a dealer.

2005 BMW X5, NCT 01/22, Tax 05/21, 149k km, 1 owner car with no towbar. Asking €5.9k. Not much of a description so I doubt it's loaded with extras but looks reasonably clean (except for the dirty boot).

An uncle of mine bought (from new)an E60 5 Series 545i with what I presume to be the same engine as that X5. It was the closest thing to an M5 and really did shift. That looks very nice

Worth closer to 8K on a private sale but no way would I sell it! I'd buy it in a heartbeat but I'm doing a long commute!

Mentioning MArk Levinson is an automatic red card on Boards.ie! :P

What were you thinking of trading it in for. I was half thinking of changing the car this year and 2nd hand petrols are seriously rare so most of the searches had narrowed to the Lexus IS300H.

I noticed this 2012 GS450H however and a little surprised with the €390 annual motor tax so is that wrong or how come yours is €750?

That's the new model that was released in 2012 with lower CO2 and lower tax. A 2010 would be the older model.

I was looking at that 2012 on DoneDeal too. It's more expensive by a few thousand euro than almost every 2012 A6, 5 Series, E-Class or Jaguar XF. Very nice car though and supposed to be a bit of a sportier drive compared to the 2005-2011 version.

That x5 would have went for half that price privately a year or two back !

Recently found this thread. As a former owner of several 7 series' and old 5 series', an X5, and an RX400, it makes for great reading! Such a shame that the penal motor tax system means that so many of these great machines end up rotting away long before their time.

05 V8 XJ, "failed NCT on suspension", €2900

Could be a nice buy depending on the extent of the fail

If that car has air suspension then it could be costly.

Was thinking as much, though it looks to be sitting at a reasonable and uniform height

The fail sheet is up on Donedeal now - suspension imbalance and bushes required - could easily end up being pricey! Lovely car though

I didnt see the origianl ad for that jag only the photo posted here but it looks much better now after getting a proper clean.
Is it a different seller - maybe bought it for well below asking and just flipping it. Looks a tidy car and nice enough nct sheet apart from the suspension.

Or bought it and realised it's an absolute basket case and is flogging again.

that ad looks clean but with the air suspension on that car it could be a nightmare, also that car looks fully loaded otherwise, wouldn't be surprised if it had active dampers which are 8-900 a corner.

imbalance that large on one side but both axles suggests the air valve unit is faulty, thats a 5-600 quid part with a few hours needed to fit it.

Possible. If it needed suspension units and control unit, it would be too much.

Could it be converted to springs?

Current NCT is ok until 11th March, potentially time to investigate and resolve down the DIY route while still being road legal in the meantime, taxed until end of February too. Likely not easy DIY fixes regarding suspension, probably need access to a lift.

if it has a fail sheet is it not now down as a NCT failure in the system?

always thought this was the case.
    e. g if my test was due on 1/2/21 but I tested early, eg today 15/1/21, that the new failure would overrule the previous pass?

surely that makes sense, that a car passing a test 12 or 24 months ago.
but if it failed a new test, would then be 'unroadworthy'/test-worthy
the new test would show the current condition of the car, rather than one on a guven day 12 or 24 months ago

Maybe but with an nct disc till March in the window you’d hardly get done for having no nct/driving an unroadworthy vehicle

As far as I know the only exception is if it gets a 'Fail Dangerous', otherwise it's existing date valid until.

fair enough, I'm happy to be wrong on that.

It seems a strange standard to me though, where a more recent NCT fail isn't immediately 'valid' , over a car reaching passing standard 12 or 24 months prior.

If it was cheap, I doubt they'd be selling it. I'm wondering what percentage of the sale price you'd then have to shell out to get it fixed?

what price would a one with suspension working go for ? If it cost more than that to fix then that was likely their sums ..... so unless you are a jag fan and there's a few out there
