Going to be a lot of death in the next few weeks. We have seen a third of our entire case count in the last 6 weeks

What I want to know is, who is getting infected? New year's day was two weeks ago, so that's an outlier in terms of NYE parties. If house parties continued till the 4th then that narrows the timeframe but it's still beyond the average 5-7 days.

So is it retail staff? Healthcare workers? Nursing homes? Petrol pumps and groceries??

Are the symptoms taking longer to show? Are people seeing delays in getting GP referrals / tests?

Or are people still, now, mixing socially and not observing social distancing?

At least swabs and numbers are fairly aligned these days so we have a better idea of where we are everyday.

    Ugh. Stubborn.

Yes. We don't want to see sustained cases of 2-3k cases per day after the peak.

    An absolute gaslighter.

In the interview he makes it sound as if it was totally NPHET's advice to go gung ho for opening it up in December and the government just said okay to it.

The government overruled NPHET and went ahead with hospitality AND household visits, despite being told not to do it and even brought the opening of hospitality forward to facilitate an extra weekends trading. NPHET were constantly sounding the alarm that infection levels were high and that re-opening posed a risk. The government said, "yeah, yeah" but also made noises about letting people enjoy a "meaningful Christmas" and were slow to act when the situation was deteriorating.

What a load of absolute nonsense from Leo. He's always out to save his own skin - what a chancer. Optics and smokescreens always.

People could have just refrained from having house parties - just saying! A January lockdown was inevitable anyway. Perhaps the illicit parties helped to 'lance the boil' - i.e. bringing forward inevitable cases of infection.

    3457 swabs

    Difference of 41

Not testing close contacts is making it very challenging

Nope, it's because we aren't locked down.

Factories still open, creches still open.

    Way too much still open.

Hundreds of thousands of people went back to work last week

Boris saying that fomite transmission "very common".

I had thought that the vast majority of cases were due to aerosol transmission?

    Is he just blabbering?

UK announcing mandatory quarantine. Thought they had it already though? Presume it doesn't include travel from NI

Clarified its not quarantine, negative test required and people being told to self isolate. Basically the same as it was a few months ago

I'm not sure how long it takes infections within households to actually happen. I've been assuming it would be a matter of hours if it was going to happen at all but maybe this isn't always the case. So say if a young lad living with his folks picked up the virus at a NYE party but was asymptomatic and then mammy or daddy only contracted it off him four or five days later, they might only be showing up as cases round now.

Numbers aren't falling like I'd hoped tbh and given the general amount of people on the move I'm not surprised.

I think deep down we all know this lockdown isn't as adhered to or strict as March. It's all about the vaccine now and tbh if the government want the schools back open next month they should be vaccinatng school staff ASAP otherwise its not happening with this rate of transmission

Kinda, basically scrapping the travel corridors and going back to how it was a few months ago but with the negative test requirement added in

There's still the mandatory quarantine form but doesn't seem to be worth the paper it's written on. Very few people followed up and on and even if they are there's nothing stopping them from saying they are somewhere without any checking.

    Hope they're all happy now.

    Gob****es.

And shows its not a minority ruining it for everyone else.

It's a sizeable portion of people.

In a healthy democracy these groups are needed. Its not that ridiculous to question fining people for going more than a certain distance from their homes.

What about fining people for holding non-essential gym sessions?
