    Hi folks

Looking to stick this up for sale but with no others up for sale its hard to value it/settle on an asking price.

    Details are
Black with red heated leather seats
    Upgraded widescreen satnav system
    Front and rear parking sensors
Low KMs , about 54kms still on OE tyres (which need replacing soon)
    Full recorded BMW service history
    Just passed NCT.
Excellent condition inside and out bar a small mark on the bonnet.

Any ideas what to price this at?

    Cheers

I wouldn’t know what it’s worth either way but what’s the year?

Ha, yeah that would certainly help! 142, thanks!

Here is a 2015 being sold by a dealer asking 44k:

    https://www.carsireland.ie/detail.php?ad_id=2652722&r=s.php%3Fm%5B%5D%3D10%26o%5B%5D%3D2422%26nn%3D22%26pp%3D50%26g%3D0

Not sure if that asking price is dreamer territory or not given that there are a couple of 2018 M2s for sale @ between 55k and 58k also.

There was a white M240i up on DoneDeal until maybe last month. It was a private sale and asking only €30,000 which I thought was cheap enough, can't remember the year but it could have been a 152.

Thanks for that, that's a year newer than mine, so something around the 25k mark sound fair?

  • Registered Users Posts: 785 ✭✭✭Zurbaran

I seem there’s a 2015 m228i going for 26k. Obviously has less power, 2 less cylinders and more miles but the price difference between that and the one bazz posted is huge.

    20-25k.

There is not much demand for high performance cars like these. When you factor in the significantly higher tax, insurance and fuel costs, the potential market you are selling to is very very small. Hence, the absolutely stupendous depreciation on them.

Personally, I think someone buying one of these needs to have more money than they know what to do with, or if they borrow for it then they need their head examined. One of the most profligate types of purchase I can think of.

I'm just remembering there was a m135i up as well but I've checked DoneDeal and it's gone as well. Again I can't remember the year, maybe 2013 but it was asking €20k so I think €25k sounds around right for yours. With that said though Brexit is making it a lot harder to source cars like yours which puts you at a bit of an advantage.

Jeez, you don't spare a man's feelings but I'm inclined to agree with you, a car like that is a car for life really.

With UK imports getting the chop you might well have a very hard got car and trust me there are plenty of potential buyer out there but just after Christmas in a pandemic lockdown it might not be the best time to advertise!:p

Someone in the market for this type of car knows exactly what's involved in running them, not someone also looking at a 220d.

  • Registered Users Posts: 152 ✭✭ordinaryfella

There's defiantly a market there for these cars, with Brexit the door has been shut on pretty much anything fun. From my saved dd ads I see:

    2013 135i for 17500
    2016 240i for 30000

No idea what they sold for. 24-25 sounds about right?

Maybe so, but it's all about price and not getting scammed and tormented to death with tyre kickers etc etc. Private selling high value cars is extremely difficult.

Might be worth contacting R kings to see if they’d be interested. Seems like the kind of thing they’d be interested in and they happily pay top dollar.

  • Registered Users Posts: 152 ✭✭ordinaryfella

If anything it seems covid has improved the sales of these types of cars. More disposable income as there's nothing to do and a sense of enjoying life while you can. Just to clarify these where the asking prices and they are both marked as sold on dd. The 135 was only up for a few days.

    2013 135i for 17500
    2016 240i for 30000

Nonsense. The six cylinder 1/2 series cars have a great following and are always sought after and even more so now as it’s not viable to bring one in from the UK.
I’d imagine about 23-25 grand on a private sale would be realistic enough.
Best of luck with the sale.

25 at the most, I would have it up for 25 and hope you get close to it, but be prepared for the possibility of no decent offers for a while. If you really need to sell it fast, I'd put it up for 22.

That's the same price as a similar age and mileage M4. Total and utter acid-trip dreamer.

Thanks..and thanks to everyone for the input.

Unfortunately I do need to sell it fairly soon (to help finance a house purchase) so may have to look at listing for about 23k. Hopefully that will help sell it fairly soon..although then there's covid to contend with..

With a 3.000 cc engine, this is a BIG DAWG. I think it way overpowered, & wondering what use it might have with Speed Limits, etc. Might be handy as a
"Getaway Car " or on the Autobahn in Germany. Ireland uses, I'm not so sure ..
It would want to c ome at the Right Price as in 30 something at most ..

Considering I imported a 2018 540i for a few grand less than that, that is bonkers asking price. That is about 16-18k overpriced.

Why has this topic attracted so many non car enthusiasts?!? Bizarre.

To the OP, I'd say by looking around and with what you have, you're pretty well spot on with the pricing you've mentioned for a decently speedy sale. Also, 54k KM and still on the OE rubber? How in the hell did you manage that! :D

whats the tax on it out of interest? saw a 750 earlier with the E2350 rate. For a 750, not a bloody hope!

Better waiting to sell the car before buying another one, often people wouldnt have bought the different car, if they knew what they are actually going to achieve for the one they are looking to sell...

Didn't realise it was a 3.0l . Rather than increase the value, an engine that size will reduce the value and make it harder to sell.
Insurance costs on that will be crazy (if you can get a quote at all even) along with tax, and fuel costs.
The market for this sort of car is tiny. Selling privately will be torture and very slow.
Add in the Covid and you'll be lucky to shift it at all. Unless you price it at €15k-€19k range, I can't see there being much uptake in this climate.

Could you look at selling to a dealer or some sort of place specialising in high performance cars? Obviously you'll take a hit on what you can get, perhaps €12-15k, but at least you'll be rid of it and have something back. I wonder would it make any sense to break it? Engines for these could go for big money, even the wheels would fetch a fair bit from someone who is looking for replacements. Bodywork, interior trim and electronics too - panels and internal equipment from a dealer would be extortionate so second hand bodywork, trim and electronic components might be in demand in the sort of circles who would have these cars. Could you advertise in one of the car magazines?

    If you don't know.
    Why post?
You literally didn't know the engine in it.
    Why guess what's it's worth?
