    If you don't know.
    Why post?
You literally didn't know the engine in it.
    Why guess what's it's worth?
And they are a cheap car to insure for the performance on offer!

I wonder would it make any sense to break it?

    Seriously

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,214 ✭✭✭cojomo2

Didn't realise it was a 3.0l . Rather than increase the value, an engine that size will reduce the value and make it harder to sell.
Insurance costs on that will be crazy (if you can get a quote at all even) along with tax, and fuel costs.
The market for this sort of car is tiny. Selling privately will be torture and very slow.
Add in the Covid and you'll be lucky to shift it at all. Unless you price it at €15k-€19k range, I can't see there being much uptake in this climate.

Could you look at selling to a dealer or some sort of place specialising in high performance cars? Obviously you'll take a hit on what you can get, perhaps €12-15k, but at least you'll be rid of it and have something back. I wonder would it make any sense to break it? Engines for these could go for big money, even the wheels would fetch a fair bit from someone who is looking for replacements. Bodywork, interior trim and electronics too - panels and internal equipment from a dealer would be extortionate so second hand bodywork, trim and electronic components might be in demand in the sort of circles who would have these cars. Could you advertise in one of the car magazines?

Same ballpark tax as a mk5 gti , better fuel consumption, and and extra 2 cylinders and 130 odd bhp extra.
No offence but I don't think you know what you are talking about here. But thanks for offering your view (I did ask!).

Greenpeace have arrived and derail the thread. One of them kindly told OP his car was useless because it had big engine and won't sell then promptly gave it a very high valuation of 30k.

This thread is ridiculous. The market for those cars in ireland is well and truly alive, don't listen to the nonsense here.

I've been keeping an eye on the m235i/m240i listings the last while, and I'd say you're looking at about 25k. There was a black m235i being sold in drumcondra recently for about that, and another white m235i for about the same.

Theres a Seat dealer in Sandyford trying to sell an m240i for for close to 50k, now THAT is dreaming. I actually met one of the salesmen there - lovely guy, a real petrolhead himself. But whoever set that price clearly doesn't want to sell the car.

    Sweet Jesus

Not a notion and still comes back with an even more bananas post- God bless the internet!

Best laugh I got all day- which is a bit grim, but it's a Monday in lockdown January so it'll have to do!

Aim high op, brexit has got rid of your competition. A mate of mine spent 27k on a mickey mouse log cabin last week, I know which I'd prefer!

Tax is 750 a year..not bad at all considering..

That’s very good given engine size and performance. I have a 1.6L Mini in the same tax bracket so I think you have hit a sweet spot here tax should not be a disincentive. I love the look of the 2 series personally and I hope you get it to a good home where you are both happy with the price. Change the tyres though, can’t be any meaningful thread left at that mileage.

Thanks..yeah I was going to but then figured the new buyer might be picky about what tyres they want..its not really being drivin at the moment apart from a trip to tesco. .I could just replace them with the same again I suppose.

I think it’s a bad time to sell this car as it hasn’t come home how expensive cars like this will be to import going forward and you’d be danger of letting it go for less than it will be worth in 3 or 4 months

No that's fine, next band up is e1250 and then 2400 I think. Its half of what it would have been on old system... loads of 3000cc though are nearly a fifth of what they would have been on old system ...

You're right. Golf Rs/135s/140s/Cupras all those around the 300 bhp cheapish tax and insurance bracket are shifting, quickly too. More people working from home and are getting rid of the diesel commuters for something a bit more fun as yolo and all that. Brexit means it'll be much more expensive to import these cars now too so what's here will hold value well.

Arguably the BMW is a bit more niche being RWD but OP you will find a buyer. I think I've seen your car on Backroads.ie looks immaculate. I think €24-25k is a fair price but as said if you want to shift it quickly maybe stick it up for €23k. That particular car in the Seat dealership was sold privately over a year ago for less than €30k.

As for TheBoyConor's advice, we'll say no more.

If you scroll all the way down on the homepage on donedeal, you will see a Car Valuation tool, not accurate by any means, but you should at least get a ballpark figure to look at.

If it’s not accurate by any means why would you use it?

Didn't know OP was looking for a figure accurate to the last digit.:pac:

All it does is give you the average price based on the asking price of the same model on DD, so all it takes is one dreamer to push the average asking price up so it's nowhere near a true valuation to be honest. Asking prices aren't selling prices either.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'm going with €22950 in the hope it will move fairly fast.

I tried that with my car and it told me it’s 10 grand more than I paid for it!

Same. Mine showing up at €12,500 more than i paid for it on the car zone version. Yet Duffy's valued it at €7,000 less than i paid. Some chancers.

I had it in my saved ads on donedeal and is now marked sold so I guess it was priced right for the quick sale. Bet your glad you didn't break it for parts as the poster above suggested

I was considering it and was weighing up whether to buy and letting my Dad drive it until I'm back next year. Something tells me I may have made the wrong decision. It was superb value.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭hooch-85

Fantastic value alright, barely ran in with the mileage it had.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

Yeah I was looking at it myself, saw the update on the ad a couple of days back to say a deposit had been taken, so i guess the first person to probably turn up took it! price was great for a quick sale, I hope Cojomo got what he was happy with for it anyway.

Lads cars like this are now few and far between as the option of bringing in one yourself from Brexitland is just not viable any more. Whatever fast cars we have here in the country now is all we are going to have.
Watch these and cars like Golf R’s values rise.

100%. If there's any silver lining to Brexit, it's that my depreciation just got cut in half! :pac:

I think cojomo wins the award for fastest sale of a 3.0 litre 6 cylinder BMW on boards.ie :D Well done!

I looked at the ad and it's a lovely car. Went for a second look and it was gone.

Price probably reflects no competition from cheaper UK imports now.
