Tax is either €951 or €2400. These are class

That’s way too cheap for a CX7. Has to be a bad un

Way too cheap is a bit of an exaggeration, to me it seems more like it's just simply priced to sell.

The only other one on DD is up for 3k dropped from €3500 with a full fresh nct but its been up over 20 days and still hasn't sold.

Some tax bands is It c have changed so ones that are high will most likely be even higher next renewal.

Is that the same engine as the 3/6 MPS?

If so and the tax is the cheaper of the two mentioned that's a great buy for someone with miles to munch who wants to have fun doing it.

I don't think you would be buying a CX-7 for mile munching, they are fairly thirsty. I also don't think it's suspiciously cheap, it's about right for what it is - a 13 year old petrol SUV with still a fairly meaty annual tax bill that isn't hugely desirable.

My tax renewal arrived yesterday - up from €570 to €600.

Checked the Gov.ie website and Motortax is quoted at €570. Every official website and not so official sites say €570. Now I do not recall any rise from the budget, so it must be Brexit or Covid.

Anyway, after much searching, it is the carbon tax loaded onto the higher CO2 rates - so €570 goes to €600. [Edit: Band D rate.]

Mine is unchanged at €200. 111-120 bracket, my car is 113.

I accept your point, that other CX7 is the ONLY other one for sale I can find on DD or CZ. Still a not insignificant 33% cheaper though. Like anything of that age and complexity it would be wise to thread carefully.

Yikes, does this mean all my pre 2008 2ltr petrol and diesel yokes are going to cost more to tax or will pre 2008 stay the same?

No pre 08 will be the same except you import a pre 08 then that will be now taxed on CO2..

I know that but giving the bastards 600 a week between paye and usc it's annoying..

Thanks, I know it’s only a tenner per vehicle but I hate giving it to them.

That's a straight car, or at least it was up until a year or so ago. It's not powerful, but is a decent starter model, is easy insured in particular.

I know the lad that had it until 12 months ago, it was straight when he sold it, had no crash damage and has been looked after well.

Nothing too exciting, nothing too powerful, but that particular one isn't a sh1te box anyway (or wasn't when he sold it).

    Motortax.ie has the correct rates.

I was gonna mention that too! Generally, it may indicate that it was driven hard. Could well be a boy racer of sorts. Given that the exhaust is the only mod on the car.

Did that shape Focus always come with the 1.4 petrol engine? I'd say the majority were the 1.6 diesel. I didn't even know they sold that shape with a 1.4 petrol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,328 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Up until mid 2008 it was the default engine for them.
They still had a good few sitting unsold at that stage, and would have done deals on them.

Rather than develop more economical petrols, Ford just stopped selling petrol in anything Focus sized or bigger for a few years.

In all fairness it's about an extra 50 cents a week, sell the car if it's too expensive to keep.

That is where my research took me.

I cannot understand why all the other gov.ie sites have the wrong values. Also SIMI site is wrong.

In fact, the only site that has the right values is motortax.ie which I suppose should not be a surprise that the one collecting it has it correct.

I am not complaining about the increase - just it was not flagged in the budget (afair) and the Dept of Transport has the wrong value, as does a search of Gov.ie.

    It is gross incompetence.

The rates applicable from 1/1/2021 are here https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/41c9cc-motor-tax-rates/ The government site.

    This site https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/motoring_1/motor_tax_and_insurance/motor_tax_rates.html
contains a link to the government site.
I don't see any gross incompetence.

Just on this, as I did before I'd familiar with the car, up until about a year ago. I see now though, that it was advertised on Facebook and sold over the Xmas by the previous owner, and is now being sold again from Cavan. Sounds like a lad doing a bit of dealing, trying to turn a fast buck.
