This interviewer is not doing great. She's shrinking before Norma's teacher tone. Sarah McInerney would be better.

    Norma loves the word 'indeed.'

Anyone taking a drink every time she mentions ‘partners in education’ will need to pumped out after this interview!

If only RTÉ had a competent interviewer.

    Absolute disgrace

Special needs kids desperately need help and are regressing every day

    Enjoy your time off

    This is boring now.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

I dont take it personally but people (not you) think that teachers and SNA are robots there for their usage. This is a pandemic, a once in a lifetime occurence and if it is safer to work from home, people should.

THere are people from all professions working from home. gps only doing consults on the phone, no one calls for them to be on the pup.

There is a help thread if anyone has a questions as they are teaching and we will do the best to answer it.

And I fully agree if you read back I actually asked why the government didn’t put something in place in case schools closed again which let’s face it was always likely in the winter time. Most teachers are been left to do all the online work themselves their is no national plan if you know what I mean.

As for asking about going to the class room to stream that was hypothetical. Obviously there would be exceptions to this for vulnerable teachers etc as there is in every workplace.

I think the interviewer is doing a good job. It's obvious she ( Foley)is sticking to the script her civil servants have drilled into her.you can hear her voice raise when she's out under pressure.

You could also play this bingo game everytime she says 'schools are safe'

Think I counted 6 times just in this interview.

She was going for 7 but interviewer jumped to vaccinces!

Not boring to parents of special needs children

Why doesn't the interviewer ask her if she'd be comfortable sitting in a room with 25 other people for 6 hrs

Yeah but she needed to be pushed past that. She’s so angry that she should be tipped over the edge

Norma Foley throwing teaching unions under the bus completely, claiming that they were all consulted.

She's repeating hundreds of times that she has had ongoing engagement with unions.

All three utterly deny this is the case. Up to last week the INTO say they have only met her once.

Norma held her ground, not a hair out of place.

I thought the interviewer was going to throw up when Foley said we would have one million people vaccinated by June of next year.

    Norma drinking game...

    Schools are safe - shot
All evidence points to schools being safe - double shot

I love how she is using the special needs kids to try make her point. SEN is so underfunded by the dept. The amount of different roles I undertake in relation to SEN that are all unpaid is laughable. Our ASD unit is a storage cabin.

Parents of SEN students will know this, but I will say it anyway - what is done in schools for SEN students is done by teachers (not politicians), often in their own time (not funded) and always because they care (not because they have their eye on the next election)

I honestly think it's in the best interest of my health and blood pressure that I don't listen. Glad for the commentary here..

You were better off away from it.

There's an argument for everyone to just take a deep breath and acknowledge that every last one of us here is dealing with a multi-layered, unprecedented scenario which has affected us in so many ways. We have all been on high alert since March 12th with a brief respite in the summer. It's a very long time to be dealing with the massive ups and downs we have all encountered. Maybe if we just accept that no one is capable of being their best self at the moment, we can meet each other with a bit more compassion.

Teachers are doing their best, SNAs are doing their best, parents are doing their best. Maybe even Norma is doing her best?!? Hmmmm.....

None of us can really believe that this is still going on. But eventually, it has to end. We just need to try to hold on to a bit of sanity and good humour until then.

Just to add, I was in a very different mood a couple of hours ago trying to figure out the inner workings of Seesaw and listening to a friend of mine rant down the phone at me about the (very significant) efforts her son's school is making to facilitate remote learning. Wine helps.

Someone, albeit with a strong stomach needs to give her a real pearl necklace.
Might loosen her up a bit.
