    Why no enforcement this time for level 5 compared to when numbers were lower? The very odd checkpoint but no where need the numbers like beginning of the year.
    I was on a few essential journeys over the last few days and I didn’t see one guard anywhere and I was driving between 3 different midland counties.
    Two different forecourts last night where young lads had gathered with 7 or 8 cars and were socialising in groups .

    We are still in that Christmas zone in the sense that people are allowed to return home. Very little traffic that I saw yesterday. I think it's wishful thinking that every congregation of young lads is going to be policed.

    Fianna Fail and government partners are to blame for where we are at this moment in time. they are responsible for the sky rocket in numbers..and the inevitable deaths that will sadly follow. its the government ministers who should be held accountable. its time we forced a few of them out of office.

    the lads hangin out in the garage aren't the problem. nor are the guards..they've enough on their plate day to day.

    Yes it does, I lost this same argument here months ago on the opposite side. The HPSC and ECDC case definition defines COvid 19 as being a Laboratory confirmed case of SAR CoV2 infection

    I was angry as well. More so last week probably. But the current numbers are worse than any worst case scenario projections. No one saw this coming. Also very few countries have successfully kept the virus back. Let’s hope lockdown 3 works.

    The only silver lining is that the casedemic/pcr test/anti lockdown crowd are gone very quiet.

    no but saying suddenly that inter county travel and multiple households meeting wasnt a very good idea. it gave the impression it was ok as long as you sat your grandparents next to an open window !

    we took the decision not to see any relatives or go anywhere well before christmas. obviously a lot of people thought different

    The thinking of people in general is interesting to say the least.

    But that's the point. People don't know they have it until they develop symptoms. Before that they're spreading it unawares, which is why everyone is being asked to wear masks.

    No one is saying that it means nothing. Someone who tests positive should still isolate to make sure they don’t spread it to anyone else. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are sick.

    As for long term effects, we know it does little after a year anyway. Maybe it’s sleeping and will wake up in 20 years to kill all the “diseased” people then?

    Dashboard shows 74 admissions 67 discharges. No idea how that net adds up to 817 compared to yesterday's number, hospital outbreaks?

    We were at Level 5 until 18th December and only went to Level 3 at that stage so I don't think that was 4 weeks as the gastropubs and restaurants only opened then and closed again on Christmas Eve (the ones where I live).

    By Government guidelines people were allowed to go shopping and go to restaurants. They were allowed visit family and have visitors in their home......again by Government guidelines. So anyone who did any the above was wrong???? In that case the messaging was SEVERELY WRONG and that is on the Government! People were denied the most ordinary pleasures in life for most of last year.
    If our Government said we could see family and have a meal out or go Christmas shopping for 2 weeks then why is anyone surprised that people did that.
    Why is the general public being demonized again and again and again?

    We were locked up for 5 months last year when most of Europe was open. The restrictions never stopped, and more so if you live in Dublin. No wonder people enjoyed their Christmas and they did so within the guidelines of our Government.

    So less demonizing and finger pointing. Its called living a tiny bit of your life, having a tiny bit of hope, its called being human.

    Ya, the numbers are stupid. I'm assuming it's 74 people admitted cos of covid but the 817 could be made up of people admitted cos of covid, admitted with something else and then tested as a precaution and found to have covid and people who caught it by being next to someone in the hospital who had it (a and e, wards etc)

    Those who are admitted on Sunday evening for example and tested but dont get results until Monday morning are not a covid admission even though the reason they went in to hospital in the frist place may have been due to the condition related to covid

    Controversial ideas follow...

    So, I was watching Sky News two nights ago and the author and commentator Peter Hitchins was part of "The Papars" panel from 11:30 to midnight.
    Hitchins took me by surprise by stating that Corona Virus was not half as bad as we're led to believe, that most people won't get that sick and that the whole media response is hysteria!

    Mr Hitchins also said the hospitals usually fill up this time of year anyway, so no change there. While he admitted that the virus exists, he basically thought the whole thing is an overblown storm in s teacup!

    Weird, strange, odd & confusing when you hear such learned & public figure speak out against the tide :cool:

    Not sure if he's a loan figure in such circles?
    Obviously there are conspiracy theorists and virus deniers by the bucket load, but I think Hitchins ideas fall into another category which is somewhere between virus denial & total media -ed Immersion.
