Either that or we're dispelling a myth that super spreader grandparents are running rampant through the population.

Any chance the North could put better controls on arrivals via NI airports? Would be nice.

It doesn't look so bad for them when the Republic is swamped with it.

This sounds like an Italian/Spanish style lockdown from March/April.
Stay in your gaf for six weeks except for shopping, style lockdown.

    They're just up there

The message is to stay at home unless you have to leave home. I still laugh at the whole confusing side of it all.

Usually when I meet someone without a mask it's because they honestly forgot. They are always very apologetic when you highlight it. ....

But don't let me interrupt your bile :)

Dumb ****s to put themselves and others at risk, even if anyone buys your excuse for them.

  • It doesn't look so bad for them when the Republic is swamped with it.

**Part** of our madness has been caused by the North not having its **** together. Not so long ago they had higher daily cases to us.

Anyway, the DUP are in the position now where they will be blaming the Republic for their woes.

Up until not too long ago had one of the worse, if not the worse, infection rates in Europe, and I'm sure they're still way up there. So it does look very bad for them.

What!!?? I swear some people are just looking for outrage. Why did you delete half my post?

Ok let me spell it out for you very simply.

I have occasionally seen people in shops not wearing masks. I have highlighted it. They apologise and put on their masks immediately or go out and get their masks. They are often mortified when they realised. People forget. It's human. Does that clarify it enough for you?

I am not making excuses for anyone. I guess I am a little more tolerant.

I also said (and you can check my recent posts to verify) that 99.9% are wearing masks in shops (in Galway anyway). If you think mask non-compliance is a major issue then have a good moan about it but I have made myself perfectly clear.

Does Richard Chambers just spend day in day out tweeting about Covid.

    No.

He also talks about it on TV

Your bit about travellers is irrelevant to dumb asses not wearing masks and the excuse of forgetfulness.

It will, because though our summer might oscillate between levels 2 and 3, like last year, we’ll know that there’ll be no winter surge next time around, and so will be able to relax into it without the constant “next two weeks are crucial” chat.

I mean it’s hardly the ‘sunlit uplands’ (to coin a Brexiteer phrase) but it’s something

Yeah when the vaccine was announced the I was optimistic. I was thinking we might start getting back to some normality over Summer/ Autumn, perhaps get away for some sun in October. Then seeing the painfully slow roll out of the vaccine and the massive numbers these past while, I've started writing off 2021. We are back to worse than square one in March 2020

You deleted that part in your response. Confused. I am not going to talk about those exceptions and I did not say they forgot. Please quote my post in the reply so I can clear it up for you.

Not sure if this has been explained and excuse me if it has but does anyone know why a lot of countries in Africa are virtually Covid free?
    Genuine question.
Could it provide the key to transmission or is it something else that causes so few cases per 100,000?

I didn't delete anything, I didn't quote your bit about travellers as it had no relevance whatsoever to the excuse of forgetfulness

Yeah same here. I just think people have pinned a lot on the vaccines but the general public will be lucky to be vaccinated by the end of the summer tbh.. Its going to be a very bad year again tbh.

    Lots of reasons including demographics.

I think it's summer time in Africa now, so I'm guessing temperature has something to do with it.

Terrible reporting mainly. Sure if we can't manage to report cases effectively how does the DRC or Sudan in the midst of conflicts. Very young population across the continent also.

I’d kinda pinned my hopes on 2022 tbh. I didn’t think we would have much realistic prospect of somehow instantly vaccinating several billion people with what are new products.

Anyone with any idea of what’s involved in building a new biopharma plant for a new product on much smaller scales than these would probably adjust their perspective a bit.

What’s been achieved has been absolutely incredible and unprecedented. We’re probably being totally unrealistic about how fast it can be rolled out.

The aviation sector seems to be looking at mid 2023 as their normality restored horizon.

Globally, you’ll probably be looking at 2023 to 2025 before you’re anywhere near universal vaccine coverage. In fact, some of the poorer parts of the globe may never achieve that when you consider how long it’s taken to rollout even basis childhood vaccines for major diseases and those are long proven old tech that’s quite cheap.

    yeah

but not just because of how bad it's going currently. We've bought up all the vaccines for the foreseeable future. We've left **** all for third world countries.

So this horrible bastard can mutate away in the most deprived of areas for a... well I don't know how long - and come back to bite us in the ass as variant that the vaccine doesn't work against

In the vast vast vast majority of cases, a virus mutates into a milder form, more infectious, but less dangerous. It's generally only in movies that viruses mutate into something worse.

    Relax.

We haven’t actually done that. There’s a big programme called COVAX to help with that and some very cost effective vaccines too.

I know this is gonna sound depressing also but I believe a lot of people are "jumping the gun" thinking somehow 2021 is going to be magically better than 2020.
We've already been told that the vaccine is not a "Silver Bullet" and it will be a slow return to normal.
I had an appointment with a specialist in mid December and of course we chatted about Covid19 and the impending vaccine.
He was very blunt and told me that we must have patience and keep up with the mask wearing, social distancing, hand hygiene etc for another year.Meaning December 2021.
He said anyone thinking the vaccine would end the Pandemic in a few months was going to be bitterly disappointed.
The sooner everyone comes to terms with that the better.☹️

2021 will be getting better at some point so don’t get too depressed about it. The winter will also end in a couple of months and the seasonality will be more in our favour too.
