3 day doubling was the rate worldwide back in March, it's the default with no measures.... eh... are we sure the new variant isn't very prevalent here?

Sorry, that's in relation to hospitalization.

Seems it's not the reason, still only small in tests.

I drove across county Galway once a week from March to December and only ever came across 2 checkpoints. 2 hours of driving via Galway city.

I drove through 2 other 'checkpoints' but it was raining so they were back in the cars.

I made 3 weekly trips Galway / Mayo March to December and met many checkpoints, especially during March / April / May and again in December..

Doesn't add up, we're in lockdown, can't be that many essential workers on the roads.

The true is there is zero control. I've NEVER seen a checkpoint since all this began .

I think there are a lot of essential workers, someone a few pages back gave a list.. let's think

a percentage of people working in banks are still in the office
    car repair
    bike repair
    electricians, plumbers etc.
    everyone working in manufacturing
vets and groomers and their receptionists
everyone working in public transport industry
IT people who do anything for another essential service
anyone who is facilitating other people to work from home
volunteers for essential organizations like Samaritans, Simon community etc.
supermarket workers and anyone else needed to feed all the other groups
    takeaway restaurant staff
    obvious health care roles
dentists, physiotherapists, social workers, some psychotherapists (not all) and anyone else who works in less obvious healthcare roles, the clients of all these people
cleaners for all of the above businesses

and people going home after christmas

Tony saying we should assume we have Covid if we have any symptoms surely means that absence from work will be through the roof for the next few weeks.

We already have a lot of absenteeism what with + and close contacts. Quite a few symptomatic too. Now I know there are genuine people but definitely a couple swinging the lead!!

    Jaysis

I drove 2km to Supervalu one Monday at 9pm to get some groceries and met checkpoints both there and back

The Saturday of that week I drove a kilometre at 8am to pick up a newspaper for my neighbour and had the same again

If one ignores the peeing in the boxers set, we are one of the few in Europe that made a real go at stopping it. With a compliance from the population that was unmatched.

There were plenty of long term ones around Dublin with portacabins with canteen and toilet facilities for Gardai.

    Daytime or evening time?
I mainly travelled on Thurs-Sat evenings.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

yeah that's Pollyannaish, no employer is going to let you stay home if you have a cough*

Negligent on the employers part in this scenario. They need to demand their employee requests a test and reports back.

Aye, and pissed it all away. But we can do it again, hopefully, now that people will realise the alternative.

Doesn't add up, we're in lockdown, can't be that many essential workers on the roads.

Have you checked the government guidelines recently?

    These days everything is "essential".

    Take manufacturing for example.
Obviously there are companies really making "essential" things.
But every company that supplies them (or even only their supplier) is also "essential" ...and if that doesn't cover you, export something and you're covered by the "international supply chain" clause
    1. the manufacture of products necessary for the supply chain of essential services
    2. the manufacture of products necessary for national and international supply chains, other than the supply chain of essential services

    https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/c9158-essential-services/#manufacturing

so basically every factory in this country will find themselves "essential" ...somebody has to work, make money and pay for all this :D

Presume now with having to lockdown again, government will be stepping up their efforts to increase the rate of vaccine rollout

    My arse they will

There was a few low days for Dublin. I suspect they are going by batches from different test centres en masse to catch up the backlog.

Do you understand how the vaccine roll out works?

Do you understand the Ireland has one of the highest medical negligence cases in the world and so they need to make sure every thing is done right. Consent forms and what not.

Do you understand there is a limit amount of the vaccine currently available in the whole world.

Blame blame blame the government, if everyone just stayed at home and did what the government, the HSE and all health officials and limit contacts we wouldn't be in this mess. This is the 3rd Lockdown - Did the public not learn after the 2nd lockdown or was it a case that they didn't care and they were going to enjoy xmas regardless of what anyone said

Tony’s lockdown in oct/nov proving very foolish now. There was no way he could expect the country to stay locked down after enduring that ‘to save Xmas’. Incredibly foolish, mistimed the need for lockdown by several months.

Its not madness, not all sites are the same. I don't get the witch hunt for construction from certain posters.

Well your the one blaming the government, when everyone can see that it doesn't matter if we are level 2,3, 5 or 67 if people don't follow the restriction guidelines.
