Question for you all - NOHET modelling at end of November was way way off what is happening now. How did they get it so wrong?
Government made decisions based on this modelling and other data provided by different sources.
Is it fair to say they wouldn’t have opened the economy to this extent of the modelling NPHET provided was more accurate?
I’m trying to work this out in my head as everything seems way off! Thanks

It seems that there is a UK and South African variant that spread much quicker is part of the reason

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Have a link? The BBC article I just googled says this:

All of the work and findings are checked and verified independently.

The Covid vaccine trials have happened at breakneck speed, but they haven't skipped any steps.

It’s scaremongering because you posted that the U.K. skipped steps in verifying the vaccine safety.

Now you’re saying you knew weeks ago and kept your mouth shut about it?

Yeah I knew on the 2nd of December that it was approved, we all did, this was all over international news, Fachi himself said that it was rushed! Don't shoot the messenger for crying out loud

Did I misunderstand or did the presenter on Sky News just confirm the Premier League must now stop?

I don’t think Liverpool will mind, 1-0 down to Southampton.

So it was rushed (which seeing as its incredibly important you wouldn’t want any delays due to haggling the cost) but they didn’t skip any steps.

Thanks for clarifying your initial ‘they skipped steps’ post.

Again, please don't shoot the messenger because I am pointing out that a month ago every single newspaper in the world was like "WTF are the UK Doing approving this in just 3 weeks, can they even have read the reports in that time like!?" (paraphrasing)

They skipped the final review stage, the details of it are in the Time article, which defends them because they did a rolling review instead of a final review once all the data was ready

    Scotland's lockdown looks absolutely terrifying.

Legally bound to remain at home all the time.

Spain did that for months - no children were allowed outside

We have a 5km rule, yet the motorways in and out of Dublin are bumper to bumper . Dublin is the problem now, all roads in and out should have check points. Essential vehicles only, but no packed out with traffic heading all over the country

So again, they didn’t skip any stages, they replaced the final review with an acceptable rolling review until the end.

I just think it’s a little unhelpful to state ‘well they would be first they skipped steps’ when people are still deciding themselves whether it’s safe as it is!

    Thanks

Dude I didn't mean to give you a fright I'm sorry, I guess my level of worry is already at 9 and i forget that sharing all the reasons why it's at 9 is just making stuff worse for everyone else

    The vaccine is definitely safe

A lot of people work in Dublin and can't afford to live here. you are allowed to travel as far as you want if you are returning from xmas holidays or if you are travelling to or from work

They did say it, but have since retracted that statement, Premier League is still allowed to operate

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Anyone else know which stages the U.K. skipped to get the vaccines approved faster? Thanks

Only the specific batches were approved, not the overall vaccine. So eve try batch needs a separate approval. They are stop working on the overall approval before their mass vaccine rollout (2m people per week) starts next week

They approve them through their own ministry of health, the EU countries have to wait until a single EU authority approves them.

    Don't have to

"the MHRA has pointed to an existing provision in E.U. law that allows member states’ regulators to issue temporary approval of products for use in their own countries during public health emergencies"

I don't think we could have done it much faster by ourselves

Doesn't add up, we're in lockdown, can't be that many essential workers on the roads.

The true is there is zero control. I've NEVER seen a checkpoint since all this began .

I hope we are near the peak.

This faffing around with half-arssed lockdowns with regard to schools, construction and "essential" cappuccinos is not the answer.

I wouldn't think so unfortunately (near the peak) if it's going the way it is I'd say a few weeks time would be this waves peak, if everyone sticks to the guidelines.

It's getting to be a serious pain in the b*llx and I feel guilty saying that, cause I ain't a frontline worker.

Prayers to them on the frontline and to those suffering from C19.

Vaccines can't come fckn quick enough now.

The matches were keeping me sane, this is a big loss. I understand the reasoning of course.

Elite sports are continuing. Probably no Euros though given the travel aspect, and I think I heard this morning that the Lions tour is off

    Ever? Like since March?

    What county do.you live in?

I'm in North Dublin and.we'd loads of em

  • That is terrifying and monumentally stupid.

No disrespect, but your would wonder what half wits are managing these things on site.

It's a cold but dry night in Drumcondra. People should be able to queue outside.

The whole country is a problem. Calm down with the hyperbole. Bumper to bumper, jesus wept.

I drove across county Galway once a week from March to December and only ever came across 2 checkpoints. 2 hours of driving via Galway city.

I drove through 2 other 'checkpoints' but it was raining so they were back in the cars.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

I don't necessarily disagree but there is a Facebook page for the area I live in and every second day people are whinging about checkpoints. The Gardai are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Traffic was very light today around Dublin's motorways so this is bit of an exaggeration.

Tony saying we should assume we have Covid if we have any symptoms surely means that absence from work will be through the roof for the next few weeks.
