    I make it c.16,000 before today's announcement.

Ya, including todays swabs, it's about that.

Yeah, it means people are staying indoors and not opening windows.

    Essential food shops,

    medical

    utilities

everybody else stay the fcuk at home

So close the factories producing medical devices, close food packing plants , tell the truck drivers who transport products to stay at home. These are just some examples .I don’t think you have thought your suggestions out too well tbh

Can you state what’s not essential in your view?

    Medical
    food
    public transport

close everything else and put in mandatory WFH

Where are you seeing that they're cancelling the vaccine?

Seems bizarre when the Drugs Companies advised against doing this.

That's absolute tosh, they are postponing 2nd jab to give more people the first jab sooner as the 2nd jab only adds 10-30% more efficacy

Yet the Drug manufacturers advise against doing this.

Any word on whether there's a NPHET briefing this evening as usual?

Tbf, there's a lot open that aren't essential tbh. Is click and collect in Next essential like (just an example, nothing against Next)?

Something is clearly wrong with the vaccine, countries all over Europe cancelling the 2nd jab and entering new lockdowns.

I have to wonder if the new strain COVID is immune to the vaccine.

This is fvcking boll0x they are canceling the 2nd jab to get more people the first one quicker. stop spreading bullsh1t conspiracy garbage

surely they tie in with food and medical?

If you are not associated with those industries, and are essential in them continuing then you should not be out of your house

Because the big boys, higher chain civil servants than the goverment have plenty of peas in the pod. Wouldnt like to lose a few quid.

Perhaps Better if you have real allegations of corruption to bring to the attention of the Gardai.

I have a huge construction site just behind my building, delighted to see them there working, outside in the fresh air not camped together and using distancing from what I can see... makes no sense to add to the panic and close it down

Maybe you could start using their jacks a few times every day and take a spin to and from home in the van with a few of them?

What happened is it moved exponentially and we are *still* failing to understand what that kind of growth pattern looks like.

This is bacteria, not a virus, but the growth pattern is exponential and it’s a good illustration. Just imagine each bacterium is a human with COVID-19.

It goes from a few cases to absolutely rampant in very rapid steps once the reproductive number is high and that’s controlled by social interaction frequency and complexity in the case of COVID.

Lots of biological growth looks like that. It’s slow at first then it ramps up faster and faster and faster and before you know where you are you’re overwhelmed be it with Covid-19 cases or mushrooms in your garden.

I can't help but look at this and thing we're in a much worse state than ever before.
We're fast approaching the positivity rate record we set on March 30th of 31%. But that was set on a day that we did only 1,397 tests.

I do agree with Seamus that we're flying blind to an extent, but it is starting to look more and more obvious to me that we're in uncharted territory.

School closure here is inevitable I'd assume. Scotland just announced and Boris will follow suit later tonight.

It doesn't mean the vaccine doesn't work, more so that there is a school of thought out there that it's better off get twice as many people vaccinated with one dose to help build herd immunity in the short term.

Personally it seems bizarre to me considering the vaccine producers are warning against it and that it seems to drop the effectiveness of the vaccine to 80%, maybe even less. It's a recipe for disaster, especially if it allows the disease to adapt to the vaccine requiring an entire new dosage later in the year. That is a real possibility which people haven't tuned into. The shortsightedness of Government's may result in the 1st generation of the vaccine becoming redundant, setting us back months.

No point in blaming each other,Nephet, the neighbours, the government and who ever else for the current situation!! It is what it is and is caused by a vicious virus that literally knows no better.

I think in terms of the current spread, I totally agree that it relates to the weather.I read somewhere that the virus can last up to a week in cold weather on surfaces but only a half hour in hot weather. We are more susceptible and immune system lower in winter too.

I get you are angry Tony, but we are not the worst on the planet. A cursory glance tells us that

    538263.JPG

Raind, you should know better than that. That's a 7 day average you're looking at, and we've barely been able to get our cases out the door for most of if not all those 7 days.

Hospitalisations grow pretty quickly. It's typically 4-5 days from infection to symptoms, another 2-3 days to hospitalisation and 5-7 days to ICU. There can be a big sting in the tail though as late developers of symptoms linger in the hospital system well past the peak. But hospital numbers generally begin to drop 4-5 days after case numbers.

We can try to use historical figures to guess how many hospitalisations we may have. However, one of the things we do know about April is that we were way underestimating our cases. We may not even be at the April peak yet. We just don't know.

There is no concrete evidence to support that, the pharma companies have to cover themselves legally as that's the limit that their testing allowed.

So I say again stop spreading conspiracy bullsh1t

    Very worrisome positivity rating.

It is outrageous that contruction workers went to work today and many others with such a rate in the community.

    Are they idiots?

Everybody should be at home unless you are a doctor, nurse etc etc.

Not this phony essential worker BS

    Time to get real

Once they have click and collect in the level 5 it allows for SO many businesses to open under the radar - where i work we are not level 5 but are in work for click and collect. You would be amazed how many companies are open and fully operational today that are not in level 5

some more I can think of:
Hosting/Data Centre support staff for the physical infrastructure
Maintenance crews for sports grounds (golf courses, sports pitches etc.)
    Airlines crews and airport staff
    Logistics company employees

    to name a few.....
